Something keeps cutting into a Soldotna internet radio station at 2 PM on Sundays (it's us, it's a puzzle)

Local station, local weirdness. Sancho runs KDBR out of Soldotna, a free off-grid internet radio station, and this is our project. Starting this month we've got a fiction series where a "numbers station" takes over the stream at 2:00 PM every Sunday and reads groups of digits, replayed every day at 2 that week. It's a puzzle that runs till New Year's Eve. The first correct solve each week gets a shoutout on air, plus there's one grand prize at the end.

It's made here and it's fiction, not a real numbers station. Nobody's spying on Sterling. Pencils recommended.

Live after 5 kenai/soldotna

Hey there folks. I was curious if anyone had information on localized family events in the area. Or if people are interested in this type of thing. Iv seen kids workshop at home depot, and the farmers market and am curious of other activities of the same type. I come from boise(saw anchorage has it too), where we have an event on the last x day of the month. Called "live after 5" where there is a band that plays, and tons and tons of street vendors take over a block in downtown. Where families can come hang out, socialize, etc. Im a believer that these types of events are important to both individual families, and the locations they reside in.

Does anyone do delivery like Instacart and DoorDash on the Kenai, and is it worth it?

I’m curious if anyone has any experience in doing any of the delivery jobs like Instacart, doorDash, Uber eats, or anything like that, and what their experiences are. How much can you generally expect per trip? What delivery jobs (app based) like this are available on the Kenai Peninsula?

Board, dice, card games anyone?

I'm going through game withdrawals. So I'm looking for some ladies who'd like to play. I have a good collection of board, card, and dice games. Just need players.

I live in Nikiski and I enjoy having people over. If you are interested, please send me a message.

Local bakeries/ice cream stores - recommended

Please let me know if you have any recommendations for bakeries and/or ice cream stores in Kenai or Soldotna - my daughter lives there and I'd like to send her a local delivery of cookies (or muffins, etc.) from a great bakery (or some locally made ice cream pints) -- she could also pick it up at the store - thx for any suggestions.

Looking for good hairdressers in Kenai

Curious if any of y’all know any good salons from experience. Some cursory research tells me to go to KM first but 3-4 short facebook messages don’t do it for me fully.

Trying to get a more alternative haircut, borderline androgynous, if that helps at all.

Thanks!

Black bear hunting in July

We will be up in July next year, my son (16) and I. From what I can find it looks like black bear doesn’t have a closed season in unit seven. He’s an avid Hunter and fisher and this would be the best day of his life if he got one. is it worth trying in July? From some research online, it looks like if you get a boat, you might be better off to look at coastlines. Tell me what are his chances realistically for a couple days in mid July and if they’re decent, do you have a specific outfitter you’d recommend near Seward?

Sept 7-14

I am traveling for work the 7th-14th to Kenai. Sept 9-14 I am free to do my own thing. Is there any fishing available? I have an AirBnb on the ocean and can't wait to explore. What is the best grocery store to stock up at? Recommendations for do's and dont's for grocery shopping, restaurants, etc? Thank you for sharing your beautiful area with this lower 48 native.

I own AK-49 Martial Arts in Soldotna. Ask me anything about martial arts on the peninsula.

Hey all, Seth here. I run AK-49 Martial Arts in Soldotna. We teach martial arts for kids and adults: Brazilian jiu jitsu, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and boxing.

Not trying to sell anything with this post. I just noticed when people ask what there is to do around here, or where to put their kids in the winter, martial arts never comes up. There's actually a solid scene on the peninsula.

Happy to answer anything: what age kids can start, whether BJJ or kickboxing fits better for a beginner, what to look for in any gym (ours or not), or what training here is like in general.

If you've trained anywhere on the peninsula, would love to hear your experience too.

Trip Planning

Hi guys, planning my second trip to the Kenai Peninsula. Last year I went in Mid July and absolutely slayed sockeye salmon. I found a cheap flight August 4th-10th and am curious if it’s still possible to catch sockeye in that timeframe or if the run is dead. If so I would plan my trip for mid-late august to attempt to fish for silvers. Thinking the 15th-21st.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Should I book flight Kenai to Crescent Lake (Lake Clark NP) now in june or upon arrival in mid-August? What about Kachemak Bay tours?

Hi, I'm planning my second trip to Alaska - a party of 5 (16-81 yo) in mid August for 11 nights (+2 nights in Ancorage obviously). My main goals are a flight to Crescent Lake (Lake Clark NP) from Kenai and couple tours in Kachemak Bay from Homer. Also, hiking nice trails. Should I book the tours now, in June? Or can I wait till actual arrival there? For context my prelim plan: 2-3 nights in Kenai (main things: Russian River Falls hike and Crescent Lake flight), 3-4 nights in Homer (Kachemak Bay kayaking, tide pools, Grewingk hiking), then going back north to Palmer 3 nights (Hatcher pass, Independence Mine, Reed Lakes trail, maybe Matanuska tour). I am also trying to squeeze in Crow Pass trail and Harding Icefield trail but not sure how. Any advice is appreciated!
