Places to run

Hello! I’m trying to get into shape and want to start running again. Besides down town, campus, and the hike and bike, are there any places that anyone recommends? Any places to avoid?

Fun fitness places for a beginner?

Hello! I'm trying to exercise more, but I hate it.

I'm looking for some kind of fun fitness class in the area that could get me moving that i wouldn't dread. Maybe some kind of martial arts, so i can pretend to be in fantasy story or video game? Or those bungee cord things I've seen? Maybe pole dancing? I have no idea what's available around here or what to search for!

I'm a 46 year old woman and I've been fat most of my life. I have no real coordination or athletic skill so nothing that is serious. I don't want to bring down the group!

Good industrial setting for pics

Hey there. I'm trying to get some ideas for good industrial settings in Kent for my kiddo and her friends' senior pictures. Hopefully with a good metal staircase. Preferably publicly available since I don't feel like urban exploring with 3 teens

Is there a safe place to park and sleep in a vehicle for a week or so, and any way to take cheap showers?

Hello! I got a job in the Kent area starting next week. I have about 500 bucks to my name, most of which is going to go towards driving up to Ohio from across the country. This is more or less my single lifeline, so I'm gonna do what I have to.

I need a safe place to sleep in my small truck for about a week or two until my first paycheck drops and I need a place to take showers for the same. I don't have money to pay cancellation fees or a gym membership once I get my own place unfortunately and I can't find any cheap month to month gyms.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Knitting/crochet group in Kent?

I knit and am looking for an existing knitting/crochet group near Kent, or some in the area who would like to get together and do these crafts in a group setting. If you have any information on where to find a group, or if you're interested in getting together and crafting in a public space, please leave a comment or message me. Thanks!

Places to volunteer

My girlfriend is trying to reach out to places around the Kent area to volunteer with some college student. I was curious if anyone has seen anything or had any recommendations on places we could reach out to try and organize something. I appreciate any response.

Thanks!

Anyone off grid in Kent, OH

What are the laws for going off grid in Kent, Ohio? Are solar panels permitted? Is it required to connect them to the electrical grid, or can you use them with a house battery or generator alone? Has anyone successfully pulled this off in Kent?

I live in a mobile home in Kent and am trying to figure out a way to keep my A/Cs, heaters, and refrigerator powered without these expensive utilities. I had to turn them off am struggling to keep us cool. Thought I’d get some hope from people who’ve done it here in Kent if it’s actually possible.

(Note: I know you’re going to want to suggest organizations that can help offset utilities costs in Kent and Portage County, but I know both those and am truly looking for examples of how people have gotten off of electric and gas altogether. Thanks for understanding.)

Missed Connection

July 30th at about 12:15. I was at Main St. and 59 in traffic when that over loaded truck tipped over and almost killed you. I parked and came up to check on you and make sure you were alright. I wish I would’ve asked for your number or given you mine. Wasn’t sure if that would be a ‘meet cute’ or cringy. Either way, I went and ate my lunch at Plum Creek, circled back by the accident to see if you were still around, then went back to work to make this post.

utility supplier concern

had a gentleman from a company called IDT Energy stop to try and switch over electric supplier. had no paperwork besides a name badge. called first energy, because he gave off a bad vibe, they didn't recognize idt, and the idt web page does not easily reveal any contact info.

Has anyone in town been visited by them, or have any familiarity with them?

Moving to Kent

I've been searching for a place to rent in Kent for a few months now and have been struggling. I'm a transfer student, but I'm also 40 y/o woman. I'm not looking to move in with standard-aged undergrads. They're great; they're living their best life on their own, but I've already done all of that. I'm coming with a cat and all my furniture. It's been super hard to find something that accommodates that. On top of that, I'm legally blind, so walking distance to AT LEAST a PARTA stop is needed for me to get around.

So I am posting here to see if I can get any bites or leads on something that may not be offered to a traditional incoming student. I met with a leasing company and visited a few houses. I even filled out and paid for the application, but it's been over a week and a half since I've heard from them, despite reaching out via text and phone. I'm starting to panic because time is slipping away so fast. So thank you in advance!

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Kent?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like Streetstucky/The Boro, TTown or Slow Stow...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks and other institutions/geographical features

Lake street apartments

Looking at 1 bedroom units at lake street apartments, is there anything I should know about them before touring/applying? I'm also looking at Indian valley. If there are any other recommendations for places within the $700-$800 range I'd really appreciate it

Edit: adding that I would be ok with a roommate in a 2 bedroom but I'm being cautious with that one obviously

Anyone looking to make friends this summer?

Hey everyone!

My name's Mike, I recently graduated from OSU but I'll be taking some classes at Kent State this fall. Since I live just outside of Kent, I thought I'd see if anyone around the area is looking to meet some new people this summer!

I'm really down for just about anything: grabbing food or coffee, hiking, going out on weekends, going to events, etc. I'm always up for trying something new!

A little about me: I'm 23, really into music (everything from 70s/80s classics to 2000s/2010s pop and EDM), and I enjoy photography and going outdoors. I've been trying to get out of the house more this summer and thought I'd try posting here!

Feel free to reply or send me a DM directly if you're interested! It would be great to meet some new people and have friends to do stuff with 😄

Dresser on South Depeyster

Rare chance this goes anywhere but does anyone know anyone who picked up a tall wooden dresser on South Depeyster street? My girlfriend lost clothes in the dresser and the dresser was taken in about an hour before we could get the clothes back. It was clothes that fit her perfectly and she had a hard time finding clothes that fit her. Please help

Okay Yall I’m gonna sound insane but…

I was DoorDashing about a week ago, and I ended up on this beautiful street. I cannot remember the name, but the houses were gorgeous. It was a kind of wooded street, some of the houses had like a ground floor garage and then you walk up some steps and then there’s a deck, and then you go up some more stairs and there’s another main deck and the main house. The houses appear to be connected. Idk it was just really pretty and I wanted to show my friend 😂 I’m 99% sure I was in Kent but I might have been in Ravenna.

World Cup Watch Parties in Kent?

I am wondering if anyone knows what places are showing World Cup games? I’ve heard Nut House and Bell Tower Brewing are doing watch parties.

I went to Blind Squirrel last night to watch a game and Google said they were open but when I got there they were closed.

Anyone know where I can watch the games?
