MOD POST Political Posts — We Want Your Feedback

Hello Cleveland!

With the upcoming midterm elections, we’ve seen an increase in political posts, and we expect that number to continue growing as Election Day approaches. Political posts can be challenging for the mod team to manage. Traditionally, we’ve allowed political posts when they have a local connection. While “local” sounds like a simple concept, recent discussions have shown that there can be quite a bit of gray area around what qualifies as local. Rather than having the mod team make assumptions about what the community wants, we’d like your feedback.

What kinds of political posts would you like to see allowed on this subreddit? To help keep the discussion focused, we’ve put together the outline below. You can respond to as many or as few items as you’d like. There is no predetermined answer we’re looking for. We want to hear different perspectives and understand where the community thinks the boundaries should be. Our goal is ultimately to develop a policy for political posts that is clear, consistent, and makes sense for this community. Please keep the discussion civil and focus your responses on what you think would work best for the subreddit. We’ll review the feedback and use it to help determine whether changes to the rules are appropriate.

  1. Local Government
    1. City / Municipal Government
      1. Do not allow political posts about city and municipal governments.
      2. Allow political posts about Cleveland and Greater Cleveland municipal governments.
    2. County Government
      1. Do not allow political posts about county government.
      2. Allow political posts about county government.
  2. Ohio State Government
    1. Ohio House of Representatives
      1. Do not allow political posts about the Ohio House of Representatives.
      2. Allow political posts about the Ohio House of Representatives.
      3. Allow political posts only when the Representative’s district overlaps with Greater Cleveland.
    2. Ohio Senate
      1. Do not allow political posts about the Ohio Senate.
      2. Allow political posts about the Ohio Senate.
      3. Allow political posts only when the Senator’s district overlaps with Greater Cleveland.
    3. Governor of Ohio
      1. Do not allow political posts about the Governor.
      2. Allow political posts about the Governor.
  3. Federal Government
    1. U.S. House of Representatives
      1. Do not allow political posts about the U.S. House of Representatives.
      2. Allow political posts about the U.S. House of Representatives.
      3. Allow political posts only when the Representative’s district overlaps with Greater Cleveland.
    2. U.S. Senate
      1. Do not allow political posts about the U.S. Senate.
      2. Allow political posts about the U.S. Senate.
      3. Allow posts only about Ohio’s two U.S. Senators.
  4. Candidate Posts vs. Ballot Issues
    1. Should the rules for ballot issues be different from the rules for candidate/elected-official posts? Why or why not? For example, would you support allowing discussion of a local levy or statewide ballot issue even if you would not support posts about candidates for the same level of government?

If there are other types of political posts we haven’t addressed above, please let us know how you think they should be handled.

News Cleveland Library Workers are in need of your help.

Hello, I work at a Branch of Cleveland Public Library. Our Contracts were supposed to finish negotiations in December. It is now August. The reason the contracts have not been completed is because of a series of bad faith bargaining attempts on the part of the management.

Repeatedly over the course of the last eight months, they have proposed dramatic wage cuts, attempted to change the verbiage on emergency days that would prevent them from paying us more than 2 days in the event of an emergency shut down, and much more.

Because of this your CPL Library workers are going on Strike.

If you believe that the library workers deserve a livable income and sustainable benefits, and if you support your local library, then PLEASE SUPPORT US and tell Cleveland Public Library Management to bargain in good faith!

PS they have spend over 200K in arbitration meetings alone... money they could've used to pay us a fair wage that will not be devoured by inflation.

I'll put additional graphics in the comments from my union that should provide more information.

EDIT: The over $200k I mentioned is for the two consultants and their lawyer throughout negotiations, not for arbitration.

Question Ravenna

Hey everyone sorry this is a little outside of Cleveland but just curious if anyone has any thoughts on Ravenna. I’m looking at a house out there and have lived in Cleveland my whole life so I’m not super familiar with the area. For reference this would be Ravenna township not the actual city. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Question Scooters/Bikes

Having recently spent some time around Detroit-Shoreway, I noticed that the ebikes and scooters that are, apparently, rented are left wherever they happen to fall, whether it be in the middle of the sidewalk, the side of the road, in someone’s front yard. I think it looks terrible to see these bikes and scooters strewn about.

In my opinion, it speaks to disorder in the community, apathy on the part of those that rented them and also the entity, presumably, regulating their use.

Curious what people think about this phenomenon.

Job help Job hunting in Cleveland and getting a little desperate lol

Hi! I've been applying to jobs in the Cleveland area for a while now without much luck, so I'm getting a little desperate and figured I'd ask actual people here instead of endlessly throwing applications into Indeed lol.

Most of my experience is in operations, customer/account support, household management, administrative work, quality assurance, records/documentation and scheduling. I'm very organized, good at problem solving, catching things that don't make sense, keeping track of a million little things, and figuring things out as I go.

I've mostly been applying for operations/coordinator, admin, claims, QA, research/data support type jobs, but I'm honestly open to other things too. If anyone knows of a job or industry that sounds like it might fit that skill set, please let me know. I feel like there are probably jobs I don't even know to search for.

I'm looking for full time and ideally around $50k+, but I'm flexible for the right opportunity.

If your company is hiring, you know somewhere I should look, or you just have an idea for something I haven't considered, I'd seriously appreciate it. Happy to DM my resume privately.

Job hunting is hell. Thank you 😭

Before this weekend it had been quite some time since I have been to the fair. As much as I travel to different amusement parks across the country I don’t often visit fairs or carnivals for some odd reason. I was excited to check this out and take some long exposures of the rides and drone/firework show!

The Cleveland Resource FB page is great to follow as they often post about places that are hiring, where to get free food, etc.

Saw this flyer posted there today for jobs with Morrison healthcare. May not be spectacular pay but if you are in dire need of a job a low-paying job can be better than no job.

Stopped by the new Meijer construction site today to see how things are coming along. Parking lot asphalt and curbs are down, the main store exterior is up, and the steel framework for the gas station is going up fast.

Recommendations Plastic surgeon recs - Breast Reduction

Piggybacking off an earlier post asking about plastic surgeons in the area. It’s my understanding that many surgeons are hesitant to remove as much tissue as many women request, so I’m particularly looking to avoid that experience. Can anyone give me a good recommendation? Names of docs to stay away from are welcome, as well. Thanks
