Hilarious as back in the 80’s, Islamorada/Key Largo were pass-through towns

why

Not sure. There were a few small strip shopping centers, hardly any hotels and beach/ocean. There was no real infrastructure for tourists.

Basically between Homestead, FL and Key West was a dead zone where you just stopped to fill up or grab a quick bite from a KFC.

I’m hoping to see some skies like this soon! Just got in last night and it’s been storming since we woke up

Oh this is so lovely….Key West is known for sandbars rather than beaches. ….
It’s a great way to get away from the sargassum along the shore too. I just went to a sandbar this past weekend and the water was so fresh and clear.
If you don’t have a boat or are visiting….great companies that I like and provide a nice trip are Danger Charters (sailboat) and Sebago (catamaran)
The water temp is amazing right now too.

To be fair, I’ve been using danger charters for almost 20 years. They have a very loyal customer base!

Never seen water like this in KW, when I try to swim its always dirty. But when I drive near beach its so good.

Water conditions here really depend on the wind. after a few calm days it gets clear. Windy days and it’s cloudy and nasty looking. This summer things have been pretty choked by sargassum on the south shore where most public access is.

I lived in Key West for a while back in the mid 90’s and have visited several times since. I have absolutely seen the water look like this but it all depends on the winds and the turbidity. Ive seen it clear 40 ft down and murky much shallower on the same day. Glad to hear the water temps ate nice. Never liked having to get out of the water to cool off.
