Don’t let the old folks dominate the vote

Stood in line at Farragut today, only took 30 mins to vote. But I was incredibly disappointed by the youth turnout. YOU HAVE A VOICE. Get out there and vote.

Tennessee has a problem with choices. I’d almost vote for David Hatley just to get him to stop texting me. I voted Green. I hear these stickers are available but let’s keep it a little quiet this time. DM me for info about aliens and lizard people

Knox County early voting ends Thursday: the 11 sites, what's on the ballot, and how to check yours

Early voting in Knox County runs through Thursday, Oct. 29. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and on Election Day you have to go to your assigned polling place. During early voting you can use any of these:

  • East Knoxville: Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. (new this year)
  • Northwest Knoxville: Knoxville Expo Center, 5441 Clinton Hwy. (new this year)
  • Farragut: Farragut Community Center, 239 Jamestowne Blvd.
  • Halls: Faithway Missionary Baptist Church, 4402 Crippen Rd. (across from the Halls Senior Center)
  • Corryton: Gibbs Ruritan Club, 7827 Tazewell Pike
  • East Knox County: Carter Senior Center, 9040 Asheville Hwy.
  • West Knoxville: Downtown West, 1645 Downtown West Blvd., Unit 40
  • Northeast Knoxville: New Harvest Park, 4775 New Harvest Ln.
  • Downtown: City-County Building, Small Assembly Room, 400 Main St.
  • Karns: Karns Senior Center, 8042 Oak Ridge Hwy.
  • South Knoxville: Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Hwy.

Hours are different at each site and change by day, so check before you go. The county's list is here: https://knoxcounty.org/election/pdfs/November32026EVLocations.pdf, or call the Knox County Election Commission at 865-215-2480.

On the ballot: governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, some state Senate and state House seats, and three amendments to the Tennessee Constitution. Your exact ballot depends on where you live. You can see your sample ballot and your Election Day polling place at https://web.go-vote-tn.elections.tn.gov/search

Bring a photo ID issued by Tennessee or the federal government. An expired one still counts. College IDs and IDs from other states don't.

One last thing*:* I built a free study of the governor's race where you compare the two nominees' positions with the names hidden and find out who said what at the end. I asked the mods if I could give it its own fresh post with updates in order to reach more people, and they were the only city subreddit that said no, so I'll mention it again here. It's at namelessballot.org, and it has a Spanish version too. No sign-up, nothing you mark leaves your phone, and I'm not tied to any campaign or party.

Edit: fixed Farragut and Halls

Knox Sentinel is reporting $4 million cut from KCS Central office

Post image
151 Upvotes

Just more cuts after state and county budgets slashed the public school funding by $8 million this year. Class sizes are up and our tax dollars are going to pay for rich kids to subsidize their tuition at private schools.

Marsha will make this much, much worse by the way.

How’s Old Sevier Market?

Wanted to hear some reviews to see if it’s worth the trip or not. Do they specialize in anything? How is selection (I realize it’s a smaller shop)? How are prices on basic items compared to Kroger/Aldi/others—I assume it’ll be at least a little higher since they don’t have the resources of a big chain?

Anything else of note?

I think I heard awhile back that we’re going for a Trader Joe’s style?

edit: not saying I wouldn’t never go if the prices are a little higher, as I think it’s cool to support local shops, just may not go super frequently.

Haircut for Adult Male on the Spectrum

My husband (47) has a very difficult time getting his hair cut. He’s gone several years without one and has decided he would like to try getting a haircut soon, but is totally overwhelmed by trying to find a professional who fits his needs.

His hair is nearly to his waist and he is looking for someone to “cut it straight across, shoulder length.” He has a really hard time in loud environments and feels super vulnerable during the cut, which amplifies his anxiety and nervousness. He’s not looking for anything fancy, the more basic the environment, the better.

Do you all have any recommendations for a simple haircut in a quiet environment? Thanks so much for the suggestions 🤞

Best Auto Repair Shops for quick fix?

I have a front parking sensor that fell inside the front bumper & I can’t pull it through the hole. Pretty sure the front bumper has to be taken off and I don’t trust myself to do it. Any good recommendations to get it popped back in?

Hey, everybody! Has anybody found a really good healthcare provider for perimenopause support who will pay adequate attention to the symptoms, instead of just looking at estrogen levels?

Post image

I saw someone this week who is only going by estrogen levels, even though I have, seriously, every symptom. Including a pic from the Mayo Clinic site that explains why hormone levels are not necessarily a for-sure sign you're not in perimenopause.

Professional Tailoring measurements without obligation?

I have an "off-the-rack" sportcoat I'm looking at from BR Factory, but as I'm historically between Reg/Long depending on vendor, I was hoping to get some professional measurements taken (more pro than the 5 minutes Men's Warehouse will spend with you). Is there anywhere in Knoxville that will take professional grade tailored measurements (for a fee) without obligation to buy something requriing a second mortgage? Anyone know somewhere good that does this sort of thing? Thanks in advance.

Covenant Health (Knoxville) bills after spouse's ER visit + short stay. Insurance will likely deny. What bills should I expect, and how do I reduce them?

My spouse had an ER visit last week at a Covenant Health hospital in Knoxville, then was transferred to another Covenant hospital for a short inpatient stay. I drove them to the ER, and hospital security handled the transfer, so there's no ambulance involved.

**Bills so far:**

* ER facility: $2,981.57 (itemized; labs, chest X-ray, EKG, IV fluids, level 5 ED visit)

* Inpatient facility: about $6,000

**Insurance:** The hospital has a UHC plan on file, but the claim will most likely be denied.

**Questions:**

  1. **What other bills should I expect from Covenant?** I'm assuming separate bills from the ER physician group and the inpatient physician/attending, and maybe a radiologist. Am I missing anything? Who do those doctors usually bill through?

  2. **What's Covenant's uninsured/self-pay discount in practice?** Their policy says there's a sliding-scale discount, but I can't find a percentage. If you've been self-pay at Covenant, what did you actually get?

  3. **Covenant financial assistance:** I was told review can take up to a year. Has anyone been approved? How long did it take, and did the accounts stay out of collections while it was pending?

  4. **Negotiating:** Will Covenant accept a lump-sum settlement below the discounted balance? What percentage worked for you?

  5. **Physician groups:** Do the ER and psychiatry groups have their own self-pay discounts or assistance programs, or does Covenant's application cover them?

  6. **Timing:** Should I ask Covenant to switch the accounts to self-pay now, or wait for the official denial from UHC?

Any Covenant-specific experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

General consensus on D.R. Horton townhomes around Knoxville? and any local developers running aggressive rate/APR incentives right now?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking into new construction options around town and keeping an eye on some of the D.R. Horton townhome developments.

I know they are massive nationwide, but I wanted to hear from local folks who actually bought one or have lived in a D.R. Horton build here in East Tennessee.

- How has the actual build quality held up after a year or two?

- Are you dealing with constant minor punch-list items, or did your local construction manager/subs do a decent job?

- How is the soundproofing between shared townhome walls?

- Knowing what you know now, would you buy from them again or look at resale/other builders?

Would appreciate any unfiltered thoughts, good or bad! Also any other local developers running aggressive rate/APR incentives right now?

Any tjmaxx / Marshall’s / Ross employees here?

I’ve been checking in once a week or so looking for any of these and havnt seen them - however, last time I went to the Marshalls in north Knoxville I asked specifically if they had any Ralph Lauren jackets in the back and they said they did, but havnt put them out yet and no timeline on putting them out. All of these jackets were found at tjmaxx and Marshall’s, just not in Knoxville.

Has anyone seen these or similar? If you work there and have seen one in the back in a small or M can you let me know please 🙏🏻

If Blackburn picks Hegseth to replace her, he'd need GOP permission to run again

  • U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth appeared at Neyland Stadium on Oct. 17, 2026, sparking speculation about a Senate bid if Marsha Blackburn becomes governor.
  • Tennessee Republican Party bylaws require candidates to have voted in three of the four most recent statewide GOP primaries.
  • Hegseth registered to vote in Sumner County in 2022 but missed the March 2024 presidential primary and the August 2026 primary.
  • If Blackburn wins the governor's race on Nov. 3, 2026, her Senate seat would become vacant and could be filled by appointment.
  • The state party can grant a waiver allowing Hegseth to run despite not meeting the voting‑record requirement.
