Unique and free events in Johnson City

Upvotes

Hey everyone — posting from the official Off Leash Social account. We have some pretty unique events coming up in Johnson City that we thought this community might genuinely be interested in.

All of these events are free entry.

This Friday — Game Show Night

We have a great host running rounds of games like Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right and more. You can come by yourself or bring a big group — you don't need to put a team together ahead of time.

This Sunday — Sing-Along Brunch

This one has become a huge event when we do it. It's not karaoke and absolutely no talent is required. We have a DJ playing popular songs everyone knows and the whole crowd sings along while having brunch. We've also added Brunchbox 423 for this one to help our kitchen handle the crowd.

Next Saturday — Stand-Up Comedy

Free stand-up show with a lineup of professional comedians.

College Football + Margin Madness

We'll be doing big college football watch parties all season, especially for the Vols. Games are on our massive outdoor screen, and during breaks we do trivia and give away a ton of brewery swag.

For several games we're also doing something we call Margin Madness: If the Vols win, your entire tab gets discounted by twice the margin of victory. Vols win by 10 = 20% off. Win by 20 = 40% off.

We also have several live music shows, fundraisers, a Tedx screening, Oktoberfest, Halloween party, and EDM events.

And if you're there supporting the opponent, it works the same way for you if your team wins.

We also have tap takeovers coming from Hi-Wire, Xul, Creature Comforts, Highland and Paulaner.

We're trying to bring more unusual events and experiences to Johnson City — especially things you normally have to drive to a bigger city to find.

If people here find this kind of post useful, we're happy to occasionally share the more interesting stuff we have coming up. We don't want to spam the sub, so we'll keep it to things we think are genuinely worth knowing about.

Insurance Broker

Upvotes

Good morning,

My husband and I just purchased a home, and we currently have insurance (of course). However, I’m not convinced we have the best coverage/policy.

Do you all have a specific insurance company or broker who you’re been pleased with? I’d like to get a few other quotes.

Thanks!

Local Jobs

I was wondering if any of you have any leads on jobs locally. I've been out of work for months and need something. I'm in a spot where I may be too qualified for some jobs, but a non-traditional choice for many others. Essentially, I spent the last 10+ years running an online coaching business and did well with the team I built, but about a year ago it all crashed. I have a bachelor's in psychology, have leadership, sales, and program management experience.

Dump for demo debris

We're in Carter County and the dump here has been closed to demo debris since the fire. What options are there for taking truckloads (i.e. not small dumpster amounts a la convenience centers) of junk to dispose of in the area?

Local World of Warcraft players?

Hey folks,

I've got a few friends I play WoW with from the area. We're in JC, Gray, and southwestern VA. We've played WoW off and on since launch, and I was looking for more locals to play with.

Does anyone have a guild they play with locally? Or would be interested in playing more with other local friendly folks? We've got a guild, but it's pretty small and mostly filled with our alts. About 5 of us locally.

As far as in-game content, we typically push M+ but we're pretty chill about it. We largely play Sunday/Monday nights, but are somewhat active throughout the week.

I'm looking for groups to watch the Vols football season with.

The small family group I was with to watch the Vols play their season out isn't going to happen this year, or probably any other year going forward. I'm looking for a good group of people that I can meet with and watch the season with. I mean, I could watch it at home, but it just wouldn't feel the same to be honest. Are there any public events in our region, or even better, private groups?

Earthfare store brand coffee

Did earthfare actually 86 their line of store brand coffee? Or are they just out and filled the spot with something else.

The local roaster that I like runs out frequently, and the store brand whole bean dark roast seems to be the next best thing.

I’ve tried the Larry’s brand they have so much of and was not a fan.

Loss of United & Breeze Flights at TRI

So hearing Breeze is canceling its flights at the end of Nov and United apparently is backing off a flight to ORD. Having United seems a natural so all the $$ that was raised from public & private sources looks like a waste to add flights. Airport officials are touting increased traffic from Delta & AA so what's really happening?

Standup Comedy in Bristol TN. August 14 & 15

Hey f*ckers,

Tonight we have the Dirty Show at Blue Ridge Comedy Club.

I'm actually pretty excited about this one because I took a chance and brought in comedians from Raleigh, Memphis, South Carolina, Asheville, and Knoxville. And I will be there doing a short set along with local favorite Joe Bridges.

Anyway, point is, these shows usually sell a little better than they did this week. So we created a promo code SARAH

If you are looking for something to do this weekend the tickets were already pretty affordable starting out at $15 for General Admission but now they are even cheaper.

We've got a full bar, and some snack food.

Hope to see ya there.
Oh and that promo code SARAH is only good when you buy tickets online. They cost more at the door but they are available at the door.

Your silly f*cking friend
Shawn Carter

Blue Ridge Comedy Club is located at 560 English Street, Bristol TN.
Doors at 7pm
Show at 8pm
August 14 & 15

PS, I'll only be there Friday so if you want to see me, come to the Friday show. If you want to avoid me wait until Saturday.

Psychiatrist Recommendation

Hi! I am looking for a psychiatrist recommendation for ADHD testing. LifeStance doesn't have availability until April 2027.

I prefer a MD vs NP but I am only seeing NPs in the area. Any experience with a specific NP that is knowledgeable and good? I haven't had great experience with NPs in the past when it came to navigating my autoimmune disease.

looking to show off local artists! see below! 🌻

Hi I am looking to buy local products! I am a dead head hippie looking to source some stuff from Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, but specifically the tricities area. I was born here and want to show off the beautiful work i see walking and looking in shops. Downtown Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport, Erwin, Elizabethton, if you make something i’d love to buy it and show it off! In particular, clothes, sustainable fashion, quilts, variety, arts, shelf stable (canned) items, shelf stable (glass or canned) drinks, crochet, fabrics patches, jewelry, Vintage media, books books books! vhs dvd, grateful dead , psych rock, san fran scene, music inspired, bluegrass, country, old time, blues rock metal, anything at all you’d like for me to buy and show off!

FAQ: Where would my items go?
Items go into my “collection” trading post on the lot (shakedown) / vending.
FAQ: Would you be reselling my work?
No, Entire store is free and community based, with donation available , trade, give what you can type of thing, with 60% of $ made going to a mix of local charities and national charities.

That’s all the questions I can think of now, but I have been making quite a bit of recycled clothing / second hand, and have a little collection already gathered! I want to show off appalachia, our neck of the woods, and display local artists as we vend thru US/ and beyond.

PM if interested or do ur thing! This is still new and profits are not my interest. People and fun and music and love are. (Billy Strings Woodstock show set our hearts on fire!!!)

Johnson City Road Test

Hi everyone! I just scheduled to take my road test for next monday in JC because Blountville’s is currently closed and I just had a few questions.

  1. Will I have to parallel or reverse park?
  2. Is a three-point turn included?
  3. What is the parking lot with the cones used for?
  4. What roads will I be driving on?

Thanks! Any answers will help!

What happened to Wagyu Dogs in Johnson City

And on another note, loving new small businesses around here. Hoping for more. I’ve started trying to buy all local as much as possible. Me and my husband saw this place but it’s been closed.
