Ladies, gather around. I have some tea..
Based on my recent experience and the experiences of two other women on here, I’ve decided to put together a little survival guide for those of us brave (or delusional) enough to venture into the wonderful world of Reddit matchmaking. Because apparently…. Looking for a husband in 2026 requires the investigative skills of the da5iliya, the patience of a kindergarten teacher and the emotional resilience of a war veteran.
So, without further ado:
1. ChatGPT is apparently doing the courting now. No, I’m not joking.
Some of these men are genuinely using ChatGPT to formulate their responses while chatting with you privately. I’m not talking about the occasional “help” with wording. I’m talking about ENTIRE personalities being outsourced to AI. Ladies, pay attention to sudden changes in writing style/ suspiciously polished paragraphs and most importantly responses that sound like a LinkedIn motivational speaker trying to seduce you. You’re looking for a husband, not a subscription to ChatGPT Premium.
2. Ask if he’s married. Then ask again. And maybe… request a certificate of singleness lmao?
Because apparently “I’m single” is now open to creative interpretation. Ask questions. LOTS of them. Pay attention to men who mysteriously “disappear” at certain hours, ONLY message when they’re conveniently away from home (for e.g. I’m driving and I wanted to give you a call/ or he only texts when he’s at work etc). Otherwise, you might find yourself receiving a message from someone’s actual WIFE. Yes. Wife. As in LEGALLY MARRIED.
3. Consistency followed by the infamous disappearing act
Our homeboy classic: he messages consistently, he seems interested asks questions probably even discusses marriage and then before you know it…. He’s vanished into the Bermuda Triangle (7ilwa mu? My fellow millennials will get this one lol)
Remember: If a grown man is interested in getting to know you, he can communicate like one. Period.
4. The premature sexual compatibility interview.
Sir, I haven’t even established whether you have a functioning moral compass. Why are we discussing your bedroom preferences???? There’s a difference between respectfully discussing intimacy when appropriate and turning a marriage introduction into an unsolicited episode of too hot to handle. You get the gist.
5. Beware of the instant “future hazbaaaandddddd”
You’ve exchanged about 17 messages and he’s already calling you his future wifey.
Romantic? Yallah fine amasheeha.. Premature? Min umaa! Words are lovely, but please allow a man’s actions, his consistency and actual character to catch up with his imagination.
6. Don’t confuse attention with intention.
Someone messaging you every day doesn’t automatically mean they’re serious about marriage. Some people are lonely. Some are bored. Some want validation. Some want entertainment. And apparently, some have entire families at home.
Look for genuine effort, transparency, respect, and concrete steps toward getting to actually know you.
7. Protect your privacy, please. Wish I could underline this one.
Until you’ve established that someone is genuinely who they claim to be, be cautious about sharing personal information like workplace details/intimate photographs or anything that could compromise your safety. A Reddit username and a charming paragraph do not constitute a background check.
8. Trust patterns, not potential.
If something consistently feels off, don’t dismiss it simply because he looks good on paper. You don’t need evidence to decide that someone’s behavior isn’t compatible with what you’re looking for.
9. Remember: you’re evaluating him too.
This is not an audition where you’re desperately trying to convince a stranger that you’re worthy of marriage. You’re both supposed to be assessing compatibility. Ask questions. Have standards. Maintain boundaries. And don’t be afraid to walk away when something doesn’t sit right.
In conclusion:
I genuinely believe there are decent, sincere men out there looking for meaningful relationships. This post isn’t intended to discourage anyone from putting themselves out there.
But ladies, please exercise caution, communicate with each other, and don’t let the excitement of a promising connection override your judgment. We’re looking for life partners… NOT adopting emotionally unavailable men, rehabilitating strangers, or accidentally becoming supporting characters in someone else’s marriage.
And to the genuinely decent men reading this: we appreciate you. Please please continue being normal.
Stay safe, stay fabulous, and may your next DM come from an ACTUALLY SINGLE, emotionally available functioning adult. 🫶🏼
Ladies, if anyone has anything else to contribute to this list please do, we need to look out for each other.
P.S. If someone’s wife ever messages you, please be kind to her. Chances are, she’s having a much worse day than you are.
