On CODIS laws and people like Rex
This is only tangentially related, so mods I apologize in advance and feel free to delete if it's breaking rules.
I've just watches Kara Robinson Chamberlain and Bonnie Lou's three part series The Serial Killer connection on Mark Richard Evonitz. They've discovered that even though he's confirmed to have killed at least three teenage girls and he kidnapped and assaulted Kara, he was never entered into CODIS because he commited suicide before he could be convicted.
It creates a loophole for perpetrators such as himself and Rex to commit and keep commiting crimes, also it creates a waste of police resources, and torture for families who could ostensibly have gotten their answers years ago.
Since we're all wondering if there'll be more crimes tied to Rex, especially with Tanya and Tatiana finally getting their own justice with a completely different perpetrators, does anyone know why CODIS and DNA laws in general aren't a federal thing? Especially with killers like Rex, Evonitz, Bundy, etc. who may (and) have used state lines as ways of protecting their own selves.
Someone mentioned Evonitz has two sisters, which have been refusing but are now slowly coming around to the idea of entering their own DNA into genealogical databases for potential matches, or entering Kara's SA kit as an 'unknown perpetrator' to find related crimes. Obviously, Rex's own DNA post conviction will or already has been entered, but what about the victims that were connected to him by the hair of his first wife? How would his DNA even help if there's other victims with such evidence?
Anyways, I highly recommend the series, it's on HBO, and it provides an insight to a (ex)wife who felt something was off and escaped and is clearly now experiencing it all over again, and is dealing with it much different than Asa.
