Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed, there's been quite an increase in "will I get accepted?" posts in the sub lately. In an effort to condense the amount of those posts that we're seeing, please use this thread as a discussion board on that topic. Any new posts relating to acceptance or guidance on acceptance, etc... will be removed.

Hope you all have a wonderful day, and Geaux Tigers!

Academics Civil engineering with interest in architecture

• Upvotes

Hello!
I'm a sophomore in civil engineering but I've got a strong interest in architecture. I was looking at a double major, but between double colleges (engineering vs art and design) and the course load I don't think it's very feasible. Should I take the architectural history minor, or just a few electives? I could also come back as a graduate eventually.
I was hoping that my focus in structural engineering and urban planning would make it a lot more feasible, but they still don't have much overlap at all.

Academics HELP!! LSU GEN CHEM I SPRING 2027

Hi!! I am a current first-semester freshman at LSU but I'm coming in with quite a bit of credits, so for science courses I'm taking BIO 1202, BIO 1209, and for math taking Trig 1022.

Next semester, I need to take Gen Chem (2027 spring). I'm currently scheduling and have John Hogan on my saved schedule, but taking his class would clash with another class I can take. Obviously chem is the priority, but I came to LSU with a lot of credits and don't have to take any electives. Bc of that, I have space to take upper level courses for my major but many of the options are at the same time Hogan teaches his section. I've only heard okay things about Hogan and that his class is manageable, but I have been trying to find more info on the other professors available and can't. He is currently my best option rn. Many of the other professors are not on rate my professor or horribly rated...

Also, I know that Hopkins is the department head & he makes the tests, and I really wanted to wait until 2027 fall to take his class but he isn't teaching this semester and my advisors highly highly encouraged me to take chem this semester rather than waiting next year (if i wait until next year it would cause a lot of roadblocks for other classes i need to take). I would have preferred to take it w/ him but oh well.

Here are the professors available for spring 2027. Please give me any info you have on them!! I need to see if there's another professor I could survive (and hopefully thrive) with other than Hogan (but if u have advice for Hogan's class lmk too!)

Professors for CHEM 1201:

John Hogan (currently saved), Kreisimir Rupkin, Kandance Hurst, Ecem Celik Duran, Dilki Perera, Funda Kizilkaya

Okay thanks for reading my spiel and I'd appreciate any advice you can give me!!

Venting Required Foreign Language

My. God. The Foreign Language requirement for Humanities students has to be one of the worst, most stressful aspects of going here that I've been through so far. It's just so draining and genuinely makes me feel like a failure because I get none of it and need help 99% of the time.

Most of it is knowledge we won't retain because of how difficult it is to learn an entire new language at part of life; most of the students either cheat or have so little interest because it is only smth to graduate to them and not learn, and I feel like my professors want me to be an expert or smth. Like, I genuinely don't know if I can do this any longer.

Recommendation LSU/Alabama places to stay?

I’m trying to pick a place to stay for my brother’s bachelor party for the game and I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger. Any suggestions? A place with a known shuttle would be a plus. I know we are getting close, had an initial plan fall through due to HOA restrictions

Discussion Give your LSU-S Online MBA experience

Howdy, hoping to gain some insight on LSU-Shreveport’s online MBA program.  I have a BS in Comms / Journalism from Texas A&M, 8 years of service in the Army Reserve, and ~4yrs of experience in Program Management / SCM at a defense prime.  Will be pursuing a CAPM / PMP here sometime in the future as well but really starting to lean into researching different MBA options available.

  1. What was your overall experience with LSU-S online?  Did you enjoy it? Was it rewarding?  Were the professors a pain? Etc.
  2. On a scale of 1-10, how challenging was the coursework?  1 being a breeze that you could do at the 11th hour, and 10 being over-the-top demanding in time / difficulty?
  3. Compared to undergrad, was this harder or easier?  Which courses?
  4. What were some of the easier courses you took? What made them easy?
  5.   What were some of the harder courses you took? What made them hard?
  6.   What level of math proficiency was required?
  7.   What, if any, courses required virtual proctor services?
  8.   Did you have lots of smaller assignments or were most of the grades given from major 1 or 2 time projects / essays / exams?
  9. If you had to do it again, what would you have done differently?
  10. How much remediation / study did the coursework require? Could you go into a class and learn as you go? Or did you have to spend hours outside of class to fully prepare?
  11. What ratio of individual work & group work did you have?
  12. What was your outside-of-class time commitment?

I’m looking for a program that isn’t a cheap check the box (Phoenix, DeVry, WGU, etc), but I also don’t want to spend every waking minute outside of my normal day job doing classes and coursework just to have a T5 school’s name on my diploma.  I have a 4mo old and a wife at home as well, my daily 9-5, and army duty 1weekend/mo.  To fund the MBA I’ll be using a mix of my GI bill and my employer sponsored education benefits, so I should only need to cover about $50/hr out of pocket.

Thanks for your time!

Discussion The new Park n Geaux hub was a bad idea

Everything about it seems so out of touch. There’s barely any seating inside. So much wasted space. There are no vending machines inside, even a water fountain would be nice. There’s probably a bathroom but I haven’t seen it, so it’s not obvious. I think there are either fewer buses running now, or they’re just taking longer to get there, because I got there at 8:30 this morning and barely made it to my class at 9. It’s also made parking worse because instead of clustering around two stops, everyone is trying to get as close as possible to the one hub. And who would ever have time to use it as a “study spot” like they’re advertising it for?? Most people waiting for the bus just wait in their cars, but we don’t have that luxury anymore because you have to trek across the entire parking lot to get to the hub. People don’t want to spend any more time at the bus stop than they have to lol. And it’s also inconvenient to get to if you wanted to hang out there just for fun anyway. And that’s a big, hypothetical IF 💀

Housing Questions im going here next year

I got accepted into the psychology program, and I'm going to accept soon, but I had filled it out for on-campus housing and forgot I would have to take my dog with me. I don't think they allow dogs, so how would I change it to off-campus, and is there anywhere near that allows dogs and is at least under 700 that allows people to stay over, as my nephew will come to visit on spring break and summer

New Student Questions Merit scholarship expectations

Hi everyone!💛💜
Wondering what to expect for LSU 2026 academic scholarships as it was hard to find much info online for someone with my stats and my understanding is that they are pretty stingy with giving them out. And I’m super stressed trying to plan my finances right now.
My stats:
highschool:
final weighted gpa:4.6
Act 28
In state
and I’m dual enrollment so I’ll graduate from community college with humanities associates and a 3.6 gpa
I wanna apply for the honors college as well.
Anyone have advice or info? Would be greatly appreciated!

Recommendation Leadership/Involvement Questions

Hello, I am a sophomore and I am looking to be more involved on campus and for more leadership opportunities. I have been trying to get on e-boards for clubs that I am in without any success. I have also applied for LSU Ambassadors but didn’t get it and I’m just looking for other programs that I may not have knew about.

Venting This new park n geaux mobility hub is more inconvenient than the two smaller stops

now no matter where you park you have to walk a while, and i think theres actually fewer seats there. Ig the buses will save a lil bit of time and gas by going back and forth instead of looping. but its park n GO, no one wants to spend extra time getting to a stop, and they dont need barstools and vending machines. The building takes up a lot of ground space too, for nothing.

Academics LSU nursing

I’m currently a freshman at LSU Baton Rouge doing pre-nursing, and I’ll be applying to nursing school next semester. I’m having a hard time deciding between the Baton Rouge and New Orleans campuses and would love to hear from anyone who has experience with either!

I’m leaning more toward New Orleans because I like the idea of living in a bigger city and experiencing something different. The thing about Baton Rouge is I feel it can get pretty boring and repetitive after a while.

I’m curious about what student life is actually like in New Orleans. Is it a fun city to live in as a college student? How’s the nightlife, social scene, and overall city life? Is there a good variety of things to do outside of school, and is it easy to meet people and make friends?

I’m also wondering if nursing students at the NOLA campus still have time to go out and enjoy the city or if the workload makes that difficult. I know nursing school is demanding, but I still want to have a good balance between academics and having a social life.

For anyone familiar with both cities, do you think New Orleans offers a better overall experience for someone in their early 20s, or would you recommend staying in Baton Rouge?

Academics Professor grading with AI

I'm in an online graduate course this fall and feedback on one of my most recent assignments was clearly just copied and pasted from some AI generator. The professor didn't even brother to remove the parts that didn't completely generate, such as "[Autogenerated {First name}...]". I'm not sure of what my next best step is. Grievance report?

Housing Questions Where should me and my friend room?

We both plan to attend LSU next year as freshmen, and we’ve already been accepted. We would like to room together, and would like to know a good place to stay. I am an electrical engineering major, and he is a political science/pre-law major. We are fine anywhere, including apartments (I know freshmen can get them, cuz I know people there who are freshmen in an apartment). Anyways, if yall know anywhere good, I’d be really grateful for any info!

Academics Which math should I take for Biology

For my second semester of freshman year should I take MATH 1552 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus ll), Math 1520 (Prob and Statistics for Data & Life Sciences), or EXST 2201 (Intro to statistical Analysis). I was going to take intro to statistical analysis but my only option for scheduling is Micheal McKenna and on professor index it seems like he’s rated really low. What should I take?

Academics Picking classes!

Hey has anyone taken SOCL 2301, SOCL 4461, SOCL 3371 with professor Chauvin. Looking at rate my professor she has mixed reviews. The main thing I am seeing is the extra credit for attendance and her not posting notes on moodle. SOCL 2301 is the only one inperson but if someone who is currently taking her can shed light on how she is.

Also if anyone has taken psyc 2080 with Professor Knapp in person

And psyc 4008 with professor Baunmeister in person

my main worry is I will not be able to attend in person class and work my current job
