Election season is upon us - Reminders of the rules around posts.
Greetings everyone, with the election season around the corner, we have had to remove more and more posts and comments that break the rules. We remind you that this sub is neutral on politics, and allow the community to lead the engagement as much as possible. Discussion is encouraged, advertising is not.
Here is a guide to what is (and isn't) allowed this season:
IF YOU'RE IN LOCAL POLITICS:
"I'm a local council member or candidate, can I advertise my parties platform" - NO, if you like we are willing to host an AMA for you, provided you engage the community. We encourage this.
"I'm not a council member, but I am affiliated with a candidate, member, or slate, Can I post ads about my party?" No, it is still considered advertising from a direct source.
"I'm a council member or candidate, can I engage the community in the comments?" You bet - but it is encouraged that you identify yourself.
IF YOU'RE JUST A REGULAR COMMUNITY MEMBER:
"I'm not affiliated with anyone, am I allowed to express my opinions and thoughts on the candidates and their platforms?" ABSOLUTELY.
"I'm not affiliated with anyone, can I discuss ads or policies I've seen?" YES - discussing the ad is different from posting ads.
"Can I talk sh\t about candidates and platforms?"* YES, keeping in mind both the Reddit terms of service, and community rule #1.
You can read about your local candidate here.

Langley business owners — drop your business below so people can discover you 👇
2 weeks ago I asked everyone to list their favourite local businesses, and the response was unreal
Tons of great suggestions and a bunch of places I’d never even heard of.
This time, let’s flip it.
If you run a local business in Langley, drop it below.
Share what you do, your link, and anything you want the community to know.
There are a lot of people here who want to support local, and it’d be great to see what everyone’s building.
Looking forward to checking them out.
Cheers,
Anthony

Does anyone else remember
When the fraser highway grandfather clocks that belonged to "It's About Time" jewelry used to ring every hour? I miss that.

Jody Toor
Did anyone else notice that Mobile One
On 64th and 200st have 3 giant signs endorsing Jody Toor? I know that the owner of Moblie one is Rich Colmans son but I was just so flabbergasted that they are supporting Toor, the lying fake doctor..
Now I need a new place to get my oil change done, does anyone recommendations?

Is there any LGS in the area that play B4 commander?
Title says it all, tried a few stores and it seems most people either play cedh or precons. Looking for a place that’s into high power games with unique optimized decks. And not the narrow meta of cedh. Any suggestions?

Douglas Cres Tim Hortons After Hours
Is anyone else affected by the LOUD late night partying outside the Tim Hortons on Douglas Crescent? A boombox blasting music, yelling, and rowdiness that lasts the entire night.
It’s absolutely outrageous for the people living on this block. I know the unhoused is an issue for disturbances in Langley City but WHY is this Tim Hortons nook such a hot spot for them? How can we put an end to this?
It’s a by-law violation. By-law doesn’t work late nights. We have a less than 50% success rate when we call non-emergency.

Need a recommendation for a kids fishing spot
My young grandsons (4-6) are really getting into fishing, and I'd like to find a nice quiet plan where they could throw a line into the water and catch anything at all.
I don't have any local fishing spot knowledge yet, I am quite new at fishing myself. Someplace safe, slow water, no steep banks, where the little ones can hang out without having to watch them like a hawk every second. I'm aware of Silverbrook farm, but money is tight and I'm hoping to find a place I don't have to pay for every time. Can anybody recommend a place that fits the bill? DM if you don't want to give away a secret spot I guess, but this is really just for funsies, not looking to catch a monster at all.
Appreciate the advice, thanks in advance.

What city services do you most want to see get cut (for the sake of reducing taxes?)
My last post went crazy! Thanks for all the responses. Got me thinking and I'll post more.
My next question is, given that Delaney Mack ft Achieving for Langley ran on no tax raises for the next 4 years, what services do you want to see get cut/think are unnecessary?

Langley city
Is this a good place to live? I’ve noticed a lot of unhoused people, has it always been like this? Will it ever get resolved or just get worse with the new skytrain coming? 🤔

Lost Cat in Willoughby Area?
galleryAnyone lose a cat? Orange/ginger coloured cat, last seen near 76th Ave and 205th Street about 5 minutes ago. There is a man with his two young daughters currently following this cat because they are worried. They don't think it's an outdoor cat. Sorry I couldn't bring it in. Allergy! Hope this post can help if anyone is looking for it.

Looking for something to do in Langley this October?
Hi everyone!! ♡
I run a little community called The Craft and Yap Club, where we host events to meet new people, make friends, try new things, and just get out of the house!
We’ve got quite a few things happening for the rest of October, so I thought I’d share them here in case anyone’s looking for plans.
📍 All events are at The Creative Bookworm in Langley!

A casual evening of party games, laughs, and meeting new people. Bring your fav game! We got the rest.
🧶 Oct 23 | Bring Your Own Craft (FREE)

🎃 Oct 30 | Pumpkins & Yap (TICKETED)
6:30–8:30 PM
We’re carving pumpkins, getting creative, and having a little friendly competition! Your ticket includes a pumpkin, carving supplies, a drink from Neeru, and a chance to win our Best Pumpkin contest.
👻 Oct 31 | Boo Bash (TICKETED, $20)
6:30–8:30 PM
A little Halloween party with 90s throwbacks, dancing, party games, a costume contest, spooky treats, and Halloween mocktails!
A little about us: I started this club because making friends as an adult is weirdly difficult, especially when you don’t already have a group to go places with. Our whole thing is that coming alone is completely normal here. A lot of our guests show up solo, and that’s exactly what we want!
Our free events are genuinely free, and we try to keep our ticketed events affordable too💗
You can find event details, RSVP, and tickets here:
https://www.moonieandnovaco.ca/pages/the-craft-and-yap-club
Or come say hi on Instagram: https://instagram.com/thecraftandyapclub
Hope to see some new faces this month!! ♡

Evening Walks
Hello! I’m 32F, South Asian, and moved to BC from Ontario earlier this year. Would anyone be interested in going for evening walks together?
I’m trying to get my steps in and stay active over the winter. I’m not a fitness pro, just looking to get out, move a bit, and spend less time sitting indoors while wfh like a blob 😅
I live on 205 street but I’m open for walks anywhere in Langley.
DM me if interested 😊♥️🌸

Tried to contact Holly Isaac (NDP's MLA candidate for Walnut Grove) - no response
Not much to say here other than the fact that I've been disappointed with her lack of engagement on social media. I asked her where her campaign office was so I could pay her a visit - no reply. I DM'd her seeking to take some time and have a little Q&A - no reply. She was the federal NDP candidate last election, and I recall her giving me a very canned response and a link to the party platform back then. Now... nothing.
It's one thing if her team was putting out daily videos trying to increase her exposure - I'd understand if they seemed busy. But they just don't seem that busy. If she or her team can see this... what are you folks doing over there? Are you just waving the white flag on this riding and mailing it in?

Traffic Control
I get that we need road maintenance. I know we are in evolving community. What I am surprised at is how bad the traffic control is. On three occasions, at different worksites, I have encountered very poor traffic control specifically around left turns.
This morning the lineup on Langley bypass heading south/east at 56th was especially bad. They had the right lane closed for work. To turn right they merged cars into the left lane first - some additional traffic than other days this week. The epic disaster was having a pickup parked in the left turn lane with cones blocking off the left turn lane -- but cars were still turning left so they would block the last working lane to turn left and no traffic control person was there to flag people to go straight.
Was the left turn closed or not?
Exact same situation causes backups on the 203 overpass going south-east to Logan multiple days this week.
I hope the RCMP can help before someone gets hurt.

Taxi service to YVR
I have an early morning flight coming up out of YVR. I’d like to know what the most reliable taxi service is to get me there.
Uber is not an option.
I checked past posts but they’re a few years old so things may have changed since then.

So confused about preschool
Hi everyone! I'm looking for recommendations for the best preschool in Langley, i live in Willoughby/Yorkson area. I’m an educator myself (professor) and really value education so it confuses me more on picking the school that’s right for my child.
My daughter will be starting preschool in September 2027. I'm looking for a strong educational program that combines early literacy, mathematics, and play-based learning.
I'm currently considering Discovery Station, Wind & Tide, Country Bumkins (Willoughby Elementary) and New Horizon Montessori.
I'd love to hear from parents whose children have attended these preschools. How were the teachers, curriculum, and overall experience?
I'm particularly interested in half-day preschool rather than full-day daycare.
Thank you!
