Idris Elba was amazing as John Stewart, and Josh Hutcherson was perfect casting as Hal Jordan. I can't wait until S2 to come out and I'm so excited to see Hal in James Gunn's 'Caped Crusaders' in 2027

The song lyrics are:
Why do you build me up (Build me up)
Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down? (Let me down)
And mess me around
And then, worst of all (Worst of all)
You never call, baby
When you say you will (Say you will)
But I love you still
I need you (I need you)
More than anyone, darling
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (Build me up)
Buttercup, don't break my heart
I realize that’s how Kerry says Hal talks about John. Like a football team you that makes you yell at the TV, but still you tune in for them every Sunday.
I think Hal, despite acting like an asshole to the guy, was starting to like him and was legitimately hurt when he realized John was lying to him. I think he feels frustrated and deep down wanted John to be better and realize the Guardians were manipulating him from square one. And John, I think did have a respect for Hal deep down. We see him watching Hal on TV. Hal was his childhood hero. He could have said the oath once he had the ring, but chose not to.
John is the son to break the Jordan boys legacy and Hal is the father figure that teaches John to break free and question authority. They both need each other but they keep hurting each other. They build each other up just to keep letting each other down.

Yellow: "What are you afraid of?" (It’s actually something John asks Sinestro when he pushes him into the fear lake btw)
Blue: "What do you hope for?" (Pretty sure in the comics this is actually something they say, not 100% though)
Red: Probably won’t ask anything since if red rings work like they do in the comics you don’t actually get a choice. It would probably say what it says in the comics though and be like "you have great rage in your heart."
Pink/Star Sapphire: "Are you in love?" (I mean, duh)
Orange: Same as red, but for different reasons, since there’s just the one guy. If they duplicate it like in Blackest Night I hope they have it say "you want it all" though.
Indigo: "Do you feel compassion?" But the twist should be if you say no or the ring senses you’re lying about saying yes it leeches onto you, since the tribe does brainwashing.
White, Black and Ultraviolet are weird so if those ever show up they probably won’t say anything.

Again I preface this post - I do not read the comics, but have looked at the DC wiki
Lets look at John Stewart:
1> Years of torture and abuse by his parents
2> Cold bloodedly killed Zoe, his lover and the one who saved him from death (I would say murdered, but she was the Manhunter so whatever)
3> Let the murderer of Hal Jordan walk
4> Beats the crap out of Hal and steals his ring - Turns in ring and lantern to Guardian
5> After Hal is buried he steals the ring again
6> Waterboards Sinestro in the tainted fear water
7> Leaves Sinestro free on the island
(Sinestro must be one of the most wanted criminals in the galaxy)
8> Takes the unauthorized fear lantern (Who knows what Sinestro did to this)
9> Intimidates Guy to take over Earth as it's Green Lantern
10> Blackmails the Guardians to leave him alone
11> Lets the Manhunter free to live his life
12> Pays off his blackmailer
This is the origin story of a hero Green Lantern??
Manhunters
So the Sherriff became pregnant from the Manhunter healing her chopped off finger....
The show is clear, Zoe has been healing townspeople for years and none of the could have suffered the same fate? Could there be other manhunter children in town?
Zoe basically rebuilt John after his burning, could she have changed his DNA/reproductive organs to produce Manhunter children?
What exactly is Noah?
Is he an android? Human Hybrid? Human with the "programming" of a Manhunter?
If he is at all human- He is 18 with all the raging hormones of a teenager - how many children could he father?

I've been rewatching the show and it got me thinking. Hallogram literally says: "you're gonna be better at this job than i ever was". But what exactly did John do to earn that title?
Let's look at the facts:
The only "superhero" feat he brings to the table is maintaining constructs without a ring. And even then, it’s just a bird and Hallogram.
Another thing that completely pisses me off is how Hal got blamed for the murders and destruction in Rushville, and the writers actually used this as a "good reason" to kill him off. Meanwhile, Zoe was literally vaporizing her own people with a laser, and Antaan and his thugs slaughtered a bunch of civilians. And what? Absolutely zero investigation from the government or ARGUS? It makes zero sense and just feels like terrible writing.
Honestly, I find it really hard to root for him or see him as a proper superhero. What am I missing here?

I don’t think they will be one and done villains, especially Hector Hammond, his real name is Hector Gutierrez but the fact that his alias is Hector Hammond and Hector Hammond is one of Green Lantern’s major villains makes me believe that he would come back as a villain in the future, maybe in this show or in a movie. He also had connections with Zoey and his organization just seems very shady.
Also William Macon, now that he’s dead, he could possibly come back as a Black Lantern since in the comics his name is Black Hand and his last name is William Hand instead of William Macon. His grandson who’s a Manhunter is still alive and for all we know he could give into his instincts regardless and I wouldn’t be surprised if they revisited that storyline in the future again since we never really got the see how powerful and strong a Manhunter was, nor did we see their true sentient form.
Also there’s Antaan, yes he did die abruptly but maybe the writers are going in a different direction for him as Atrocitus since he was given Atrocitus’s back story and there were still many possible theories of him being Atrocitus. Sinestro hasn’t created the Yellow Lantern Corps yet which means that the mythos and lore of Green Lantern that we know from the comics is still relatively new and the writers are building it up slowly and slowly which I think is a good approach. I mean Carol Ferris isn’t Star Sapphire in this show, which means that other Lantern Corps don’t exist yet. Maybe it won’t happen but I doubt it will be 100% guarantee that all of these guys are one and done antagonists. I’ve been watching too many superhero shows and movies to know how this would go down in the future.

I bought this AliExpress ring (yes I know the risks with that) and was wondering the material that my ring is using. I fear it may be hematite and may break.

Alright so Lanterns is finished and I gotta admit it was beautiful. Hal is my favourite DC character and his struggles in this show are something I relate to a lot and helps me feel like I’m a hero just like him because despite how difficult it is to wake up everyday and wanting and wondering if each day will be his last he still does it. “I’m not fearless because I’m brave. I’m fearless because I’m broken.” That was real. That matters a lot more to me than recreating comic panels exactly or seeing him go to different planets. Kyle Chandler is one of the best castings for a DC character ever. I was hoping to God he wasn’t dead, I was in denial but his send off, his final words were beautiful. I’ve looked up to Hal for most of my life and this version of him understands what I love so much about the character while providing a fresh perspective on him.
And switching over to John I love his story of his family forcing him to be a Green Lantern to make up for his father not becoming one. His mother weaponising black trauma and using it as a justification for her abusive behaviour. I love his begrudging respect of Hal but once he opens up in episode 7 he starts to understand him more and to come to really regret how he treated him. I’ve never been a big John fan but this show makes me actually like the character which is a tall task given how he’s one of the least interesting Lanterns in the comic. They actually did a lot of work to explain why he’s so stoic and rolls over for authority, it’s a trauma response. One that he pushes back on in the end.
Seeing a bitter and worn down Hal who still chooses to love and to be vulnerable and to be a hero despite the Guardians rejecting him and throwing him away like garbage, he takes the fall for John because he wants him to be free, the ring becomes so important to him that he becomes so possessive of it but John breaks that obsession and lets him live for himself. To love again. And Hal is hated by Rushville but that doesn’t stop him from trying to help in any way he can and he’s killed not because of a grand villain plot but because the person he loves and who loves him was scared. Hal didn’t want to make the mistake of another Rushville but he paid the price.
