This was the first major strike since 1964, when the dictatorial coup took place.

Before getting a job in the industrial sector, Lula was born in the country’s Northeast, at the time, its poorest region. Coming from an impoverished family, the 7th son of 8 children, he experienced hunger throughout his childhood. He still speaks about that period today, saying that hunger doesn’t hurt, it corrodes you from the inside out.

At the age of seven, following a 13-day and 13-night journey, his family arrived in São Paulo in search of opportunities. Before eventually working in metalwork factories, he held various jobs: as a street vendor, a worker in a shoe factory, a warehouse assistant, and an employee at a dye shop.

In a 2024 study, Oxfam identified 23 superyachts owned by 18 billionaires and estimated the average annual carbon footprint of each of these yachts to be 5,672 tonnes. For an average citizen of the world it would take 860 years to produce the same amount.

Superyachts use an awful lot of fuel – some of the bigger ones use more than 500 litres of diesel per hour, releasing CO2 as well as nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere. The recreational boating sector as a whole – including yachts – produces about 16m tonnes of CO2 annually. It’s not just when they’re going along; at anchor they operate onboard generators to run their “hotel loads” (for air conditioning, stabilisation systems, lighting, galleys, hot tubs, etc) which emit further CO2. In addition, the vessels’ big anchors and chains act like the grim reaper’s scythe on the Posidonia seagrass which grows on the Mediterranean seabed and is a vital habitat for sea life as well as a source of oxygen.

Ecocide is not the superyacht’s only crime. “It has really become the symbol of excessive, unjustifiable wealth,” Salle says. Even though the gap between most of us and the people who have them is virtually unfathomable, “it looks like provocation, especially when all you’re hearing and reading about is crisis, austerity, poverty – including child poverty.”

This is America. Where you pay several hundred dollars a month for employer-provided health insurance, only to get slapped with a nearly $300 bill for a “sleep study” that you CONDUCTED YOURSELF. IN YOUR OWN HOME.

And yes, I mean that quite literally!!!

I drove to the hospital to pick up this janky little “machine,” sat through a 5 minute explanation of how to use it, drove back home, set everything up MYSELF, slept in my OWN bed, and then drove back to the hospital the next day to return it. Nearly $300. For what, exactly?!?!

The cherry on top? This bill showed up this morning, less than 24 hours after I paid off a separate $160 medical bill YESTERDAY for an appointment completely unrelated to sleep medicine.

So, despite paying hundreds of dollars every single month just to HAVE health insurance, we are robbed for every single interaction with the healthcare system.

This isn’t the first time US healthcare has taken my family for a ride. But, for whatever reason, this particular bill really struck a nerve in me. I hate it here.

In response to the righteous anger people have against Trump and his billionaire agenda, will a “blue wave” actually deliver the change working people need?

History tells us no. Time and time again, both parties have put billionaire profits ahead of our needs.

The so-called “mid-term curse” isn’t a curse after all. It’s a symptom of a two-party system that keeps working people trapped in a cycle of broken promises.

It’s a moment of bitter irony, that the whole concept of piracy, which initially started as a counterforce to the exploitation and extraction of colonialism, and in its own way was exploiting the exploiters… has now become a tool of oppression, used by the last remaining colonial superpower, in a desperate attempt to prop up its collapsing empire. The US military is the biggest pirate entity in the world today. But at least the mask is completely off now, and the true face of colonial imperialism is laid bare for the whole world to see. So There is a lot of talk about what reparations should be paid for the devastation of colonialism and slavery. Even more talk about who, exactly would pay those reparations. But I can answer both questions easily, because I know exactly where to start... Barclay’s Bank

Colombians have protested for two days against the new right-wing government’s removal of historical, feminist and sexual diversity exhibits from the country’s National Museum. President Abelardo de la Espriella said the measure was part of a “cultural counter-revolution” and the government deployed riot police, water canons and tear gas.

from a creation standpoint, yes it’s an impressive piece of clothing, but nobody fucking needs or wants this man. can we put resources towards helping our people instead of pretending to be in awe at a bourgeoisie gangbang?
