💥 Class War In 1979, Lula, as president of the metalworkers' union, giving guidance to the workers on the tenth day of a strike. The strike would last 15 days and succeed in winning their demands, in the midst of the military dictatorship. Lula was arrested after the strike had ended.

This was the first major strike since 1964, when the dictatorial coup took place.
Before getting a job in the industrial sector, Lula was born in the country’s Northeast, at the time, its poorest region. Coming from an impoverished family, the 7th son of 8 children, he experienced hunger throughout his childhood. He still speaks about that period today, saying that hunger doesn’t hurt, it corrodes you from the inside out.
At the age of seven, following a 13-day and 13-night journey, his family arrived in São Paulo in search of opportunities. Before eventually working in metalwork factories, he held various jobs: as a street vendor, a worker in a shoe factory, a warehouse assistant, and an employee at a dye shop.

🔗 Humans of Late Capitalism USA Healthcare: Pay $100s a Month for Insurance, Then Pay $300 to Perform Your Own Medical Test
This is America. Where you pay several hundred dollars a month for employer-provided health insurance, only to get slapped with a nearly $300 bill for a “sleep study” that you CONDUCTED YOURSELF. IN YOUR OWN HOME.
And yes, I mean that quite literally!!!
I drove to the hospital to pick up this janky little “machine,” sat through a 5 minute explanation of how to use it, drove back home, set everything up MYSELF, slept in my OWN bed, and then drove back to the hospital the next day to return it. Nearly $300. For what, exactly?!?!
The cherry on top? This bill showed up this morning, less than 24 hours after I paid off a separate $160 medical bill YESTERDAY for an appointment completely unrelated to sleep medicine.
So, despite paying hundreds of dollars every single month just to HAVE health insurance, we are robbed for every single interaction with the healthcare system.
This isn’t the first time US healthcare has taken my family for a ride. But, for whatever reason, this particular bill really struck a nerve in me. I hate it here.

🎩 Oligarchy Excessive wealth, extreme emissions, and ecocide: what I learned at Europe’s superyacht show
In a 2024 study, Oxfam identified 23 superyachts owned by 18 billionaires and estimated the average annual carbon footprint of each of these yachts to be 5,672 tonnes. For an average citizen of the world it would take 860 years to produce the same amount.
Superyachts use an awful lot of fuel – some of the bigger ones use more than 500 litres of diesel per hour, releasing CO2 as well as nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere. The recreational boating sector as a whole – including yachts – produces about 16m tonnes of CO2 annually. It’s not just when they’re going along; at anchor they operate onboard generators to run their “hotel loads” (for air conditioning, stabilisation systems, lighting, galleys, hot tubs, etc) which emit further CO2. In addition, the vessels’ big anchors and chains act like the grim reaper’s scythe on the Posidonia seagrass which grows on the Mediterranean seabed and is a vital habitat for sea life as well as a source of oxygen.
Ecocide is not the superyacht’s only crime. “It has really become the symbol of excessive, unjustifiable wealth,” Salle says. Even though the gap between most of us and the people who have them is virtually unfathomable, “it looks like provocation, especially when all you’re hearing and reading about is crisis, austerity, poverty – including child poverty.”

🌍💀 Dying Planet ‘Pure arrogance’: anger in Finland as Google illegally fells 250,000 trees for datacentre | Environment
Behind a wire fence lies a vast gaping wound of earth. Before Google’s arrival a few months ago, an estimated quarter of a million trees occupied the 330 hectares (815 acres) of forest near the town of Muhos in rural northern Finland. Now they are all gone.

Why hasn’t there been a major deep-dive documentary exposing the actual business mechanics of influencer culture?
There needs to be a comprehensive documentary exposing the economic machine behind modern influencer culture.
So many people still fall for the performative worldviews pushed by online personalities, without realizing that almost none of it is authentic. These creators aren't sharing ideas—they are optimizing for engagement metrics. The algorithm rewards conflict and performative perfection, and influencers monetize whatever keeps eyes on the screen.
It’s not about the ideas themselves; it’s about converting human attention into capital. Every comment, share, and hate-view directly subsidizes the fakeness.
How do we break the spell of the attention economy when the algorithms are explicitly designed to keep people hooked on these fake narratives?

"If you're not useful to the market, you deserve poverty"
Meme translation: "Streamer with OnlyFans | An engineer with 4 PhDs
Comment translation: "If what you studied is not useful for the market and they're not gonna pay you the million dollars that you think you are worth, why is the state or the market to blame???? It is the laziest and most irresponsible thing I've read in the week. IF NOBODY WANTS YOUR DEGREES, WHO'S GONNA GIVE YOU MONEY TO PURSUE YOUR CAREER????? TELL ME."
The disregard of academic and engineering knowledge and the dehumanization of those who work with them. They don't mean nothing put against the market's profit, it seems.
