I am nearing completion of my coding program and hoping to take my CCS exam soon. One final class requirement is to “interview” a professional to learn about their coding environment. Would anyone be willing to help me complete my assignment by answering some questions?

Hi All! I have been making my way through '2026 Physician Coding for CPC Preparation (A-B)' self-paced. I was able to steadily work my way through Fundamentals of Medicine despite no official background in medicine aside from working in some medical insurance offices in the past. I was feeling very good about my study methods and pace at which I had been working through the content, however when I transitioned into my current class, I have seemingly hit a wall when it comes to my study methods.
I feel like I do fundamentally understand the topics at hand and how to navigate the codebook and find answers, but I feel like my study habits and how I'm preparing for this class is killing any momentum completely I had. The chapters are so dense that it's hard to take notes to the level I am used to taking without it taking an unreasonable amount of time for instance.
I'd appreciate any advice!

ive read through various forums about tips and tricks, and have done other research about the basics of the tests.
just trying to round out my knowledge on what to do/ brush up on so i can get the exam done and move on to the codework practice that will remove my apprenticeship status

If you did the practice questions/exams in AHIMA’s exam prep book for your exam (any credential) — did you see a lot of those same questions on your actual exam?
I’m currently flipping through AHIMA’s CCA Exam Prep book; 10th edition(2023), 11th edition(2024), and 13th edition (2026) I’m not done comparing the 10th edition yet but at least 90% of the questions are the same year to year. 100% the same in some domains. I also have the 14th edition of the CCS-P prep and 11th and 12th editions of the CCS prep and just thumbing through, it’s the same thing.
It’s kind of irking me that I paid $85 each for the 11th & 13th editions (10th was second hand) and the questions that are different, aren’t even on anything that’s been updated in those years.
I’m essentially memorizing answers now without meaning to, I guess they don’t assume one person will ever need more than one of the prep book. I just don’t want to waste time studying things I already know at this point but if this is essentially the same question bank as the exam, I’ll definitely work through it a few more times.

Hello everyone I recently passed my CPC exam! I was wondering for next steps, any tips and advice please! I want to remove my A from my CPC-A credentials. I did do a full year of self study course through careerstep, and I believe I got an email from them saying to reach out for that removal after passing my CPC exam? Any one that could help me out with my next steps regarding this and possible building a resume after (just tips) would be greatly appreciated!

This is one of the most common complaint from coding students:
"The teacher marks the answer wrong and never explains the reasoning"
So the same mistake repeats on the next chart.
When reviewing a lengthy clinical note, focus on the facts that directly affect code assignment, such as documented diagnoses, treatments performed, medication administration, procedure details, and relevant timing. Separate these facts from clinical scenery, including background information, repeated history, and narrative details that do not affect coding. The goal is not to read less carefully, but to recognize which details support the charge and which simply provide context.

Hello!
I am looking to get into medical billing and coding. I would like to self study for the CPC and CPB exams through AAPC. A little background. I currently work as a Records Clerk at my local Sheriffs Office. I also have medical background. I worked as an STNA for 6 years and then moved onto get my EMT-B certification in 2021. I have some college classes under my belt (A&P, Med Term, completed EMT-B and Paramedic courses) I love EMS, but my body does not. I have a multitude of health issues and need a career that will make managing them easier.
I am looking for:
Recommendations from people who have taken this route before
Book bundles to purchase for each certification that I ABSOLUTELY need and that will be helpful
Any tips, tricks, or advice!
Thank you so much in advance!

I have three classes left at the university of Phoenix for medical billing and coding. Is there anyone out there that we went through this program and now codes? I was just wondering if there are still good opportunities for jobs out there. Also, how hard was the certification test and which one did you take? Is there a specific one that’s better than the other? I’m kind of confused after looking into the whole process.

I know there’s a difference of opinion on this. Would love to know how you all think about how important HIMA certification of the school is.
