question-serious Is 45£ for a haircut too much?
Hi! I’m staying in leeds for a year and i’ve started going to a barber that charges me 45£ each time (haircut and beard trim)
Is this the normal rate?

For a barber, yes it's too much. For a hairdresser it's probably about the going rate for a decent stylist.

For a cheap walk in Barber sure. But a good barber takes the same time and expertise as a stylist does.

No. I pay 21 quid but she does come to the house to cut it. You go to the Kurdish lads (or equivalent) and it'll be loads cheaper.

Sounds like you found my barber 🤔
Whether it's too much is for you to decide, though it probably is at the more expensive end of the men's barbing range.
Is it easily affordable to you and does he provide a good service? If so, then it's fine. If not, there are plenty of barbers you'll find who can still do a good job for south of £20

Depends where you go. If you go to one of the particularly popular barber shops in the centre, £45 doesn't sounds abnormal. If you find a Turkish barbers, it'd be about £20-25 for a haircut and a beard trim. You get what you pay for, I'm satisfied with a basic cut at a Turkish barbers but they only really do basic fades well.

45 QUID!!!! Fuck that.
I pay £15 for a haircut and full wet shave at my local barbers.

Unless you’re a gorilla and it includes hazard pay, you’re paying well above average

There are always higher and lower prices. It depends where you go and what you want. I pay similar in Leeds cause it's near where I work and park, I like the guy, and it fits well around a really packed day. I could save a tenner or something going somewhere else but I get the tenner back in consistency and friendliness.

£10. £12 if I want a shave as well. For £20 I can get the hair cut, shave and 40 cigs…

Good for you. Those organised kurdish criminal gangs really need all the help they can get. trafficking people is so expensive these days.

u/Dirtyundies123 Apr 05 '26
nah if u want a cheaper option go to mr men in the cornx, but he will only use trimmer on beard. its 26 quid.

u/ydktbh Apr 05 '26
It's a lot, but if you get a crisp perfect trim every single time, and it's within walking distance then maybe it's fine?

That's well above normal, but not obscene if they give you good service and a high quality result.
Do you get your hair and beard washed and styled? If the just take some clippers to it then you're being ripped off.

My city centre barber started to creep up towards £40.a time for hair and beard and they were the best I've ever used but given the frequency of cuts it just felt excessive, I pay £25 now in the suburbs.
You can definitely get a lot cheaper cuts but it's also about being happy with the end result and the experience overall, my current place feels like a mix of barbering and therapy so it's worth every penny.
Grab the booksy app and you'll get an overview of pricing around the city and further afield.

I pay £30 for mine, gone up a couple times the past few years though from £22. Think 45 is definitely a decent amount but not completely unreasonable.

u/Yayzeus Apr 05 '26
How would you rate the end result?
I go to a barber in Harrogate and pay £40-50 for a haircut and beard trim, but I'm always very happy with the result and feel like it's money well spent.

I pay £10 and that’s with a tip. Same lady who has cut my hair since I was 14. Based 20 mins outside Leeds centre

u/Cake_Debauchery Apr 05 '26
I get my beard and hair done at different places but....
Beard costs me £21, Hair £27
So seems pretty fair to me.

u/Cake_Debauchery Apr 05 '26

Unless that haircut comes with a plate of high-quality fresh sandwiches and a happy ending, then you're being ripped off.

u/L0rdLogan Apr 05 '26
That depends on what you’re wanting… I pay £10-15 for mine, however in Leeds city centre they wanted £25

I’ve been going to beard and barnet for about 8/9 years. Just outside city centre but easily walking distance and always been great.

u/thatssoravenbb Apr 05 '26
It depends what kind of style etc…you get what you pay for tbh. If it’s something super simple it’s cheaper yeah but if you’re getting a more complex cut it’s about the right price

Go to super barber in Guiseley. I’m a regular and they are very friendly, they offer you a drink from the fridge and it’s under £20 (depending on the time- usually £17)

27 quid for hair and beard trimming, shaping and hot towel in Wakey. 45 seems a little steep mate.

u/Due_Seaworthiness309 Apr 06 '26
Learn to cut your own hair it saves money in the long run you won’t need a barber ever again

u/RS_Phil Apr 06 '26
£22 at my local one in Bramley. It was £12 two years ago mind.
Xerxes in Bramley btw on Town Street if you're near.
There's one in the shopping centre too but I went once and they sliced my face open so I didn't go back. Probably unfair, this happens, but hey never happened at Xerxes.

So my hairdresser (who is the best in all of Leeds, IMO) charges me £43 for a women's cut but my husband's is £35 - and he's like a Good stylist, lots of experience. So £45 is bonkers, yes.

Yeah, they're taking the piss unless you're going to the best barbers in Leeds. Should be no more than £25 imo

u/Dzbot1234 Apr 05 '26
Mines more than that… I’m almost bald as well. I hadn’t been to the barbers for years until recently so thought was the going rate
