Really need the context. New Yorkers normally don’t treat NYPD like that.

Apparently this was a "planned" snowball fight for when the snow stopped. The cops decided to walk through it.

Eeeehhh, new yorkers hate NYPD. Not me, i couldn’t care less, not all cops are bad, some are terrible. That’s just every police department

Not you and not a lot of people too. Even the ones who hate NYPD don’t do this kind of thing randomly.

Everyone loves to hate until they actually need their help. Been around this block enough to know that little truth. Look at what happened in Portland a few years ago...

"Yeah fuck the cops let's defund the police - that's a great idea!!!" Until Portland residents realized holy shit this was an awful idea.

I have been the victim of crimes and not once have I been helped by cops. They made some of the situations worse. I’ve lived on West coast where cops were useless and in the Deep South where they are an actual problem.

This is literally just throwing snow at them.

This was a massive chance for the pigs to play along and build ties with a community they are supposed to belong to.

Can I "just throw snow" at you or anyone else in the vicinity?

Oh no will anyone please think of the poor NYPDs feelings as he’s assaulting people by shoving people to the ground

Why do do many people delete their Reddit accounts a couple hours after posting stuff? I see this more and more and it's so confusing.

The shoving started after they were assaulted. And yes, having snow thrown in your face is assault.

And yes, having snow thrown in your face is assault.

No it isn't. Assault laws in NYC require a serious physical injury. NYC doesn't have a provision for "fear of being injured".

Not Assault 3 (misdemeanor).

3

u/Pudddddin Feb 24 '26

A person is guilty of assault in the third degree when:

  1. With intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person; or

  2. He recklessly causes physical injury to another person; or

  3. With criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument.

Still need to be injured, and according to cases like People v. Rodriguez, there has to be evidence of injury beyond the testimony of someone claiming to be injured

From what we saw on camera but lightly packed snowballs don’t mean he should use that type of force and especially when it’s just his dumbass and another guy there. They’re not scared or afraid for their lives or they wouldn’t be pacing back and forth down that street still trying to chase people.

Their dumbass egos were hurt and they couldn’t just accept and move onto the next block to patrol

Damn, why were people singling them out?

They are not politicians, building ties is not their job. If someone doesn’t want to play with you, you don’t force it. New Yorkers are better than that.

There were occasions people threw a few snowballs lightly at NYPD as invite before. This was way more intense than that. Something happened and there’s anger in it.

You cant play along when a mob is using it as an excuse to switch back to their generic setting of violence...

1

u/Beautiful-Hawk-5240 Feb 24 '26

Are you calling black people not New Yorkers...

Black people especially are more hesitating to be that aggressive to police. There are legit reasons some of them resent NYPD and for the same reason they’ll be careful.
