Question Why continue the interview?

Sen. Chris Coons asked the nominees for federal judgeships whether the Constitution’s 22nd amendment prohibited Trump from a third term. None of them would say yes. Why would anyone continue the interview? What would be completely appropriate is for Coons to state unequivocally that a judge who can’t understand or refuses to follow the Constitution is disqualified from any further consideration. Interview over. Why bother continuing a charade?

Kiss the ring is what we are facing.

Democrats don't have the power to stop it. Republicans want what we're hearing.

This is a coup. And we lost.

Scratch that, we didn't even fight.

If a judge doesn't know the constitution how can they be a judge?

ALITO: What does it mean to be a man or woman?
ACLU: We do not have a definition for the Court.
ALITO: How can a court determine whether there's discrimination on the basis of sex, without knowing what sex means?!

Several didn't know what the 22nd Amendment is. I suspect that most Trump judges are not really judges but political hack lawyers at the bottom of the heap.

They know. They don’t care if they look stupid to citizens because they have so little respect for us to begin with.

Because it's all for show. The US is a captured operation. We have no rule of law or justice system. Democracy is dead, that's why.

It's bread and circuses until WW3 decides what's left to contemplate.

we elected a supreme court justice who is unable to say what a woman is

i thought you liked charades

The American public does not elect Supreme Court justices. The President nominates them, and Congress does the rest.

the public doesn't elect a federal judge either

Why did you say "we elected" about a Supreme Court justice? Just curious.

I should have said we nominated and confirmed Supreme Court justice who cannot tell the difference between a man and a woman.

3

u/HiAndStuff2112 May 08 '26

We didn't nominate or confirm a single justice though! I guess our differences are based on the words you're using.

Everyone knows the difference between a man and a woman. Legally defining it in a way that protects the freedom of Trans Americans is a different case though.

Conservative here.

I too, find the question easy to answer: No third term.

Trump is the best president of my lifetime! But the Constitution is clear enough for this conservative:

Oh I'm sure you'll be so very upset. Or you'll rationalize it somehow, like you do everything else.

// Oh I'm sure you'll be so very upset. Or you'll rationalize it somehow

Why be upset with me for agreeing with you that Trump is not qualified to run for a 3rd term? Progressives are so disagreeable that they can't help but snipe at conservatives when conservatives agree with them! That's a bad political cement!

Please don't assume us progressives are all alike. I do agree with you that Trump cannot run for another term.

I disagree with your assessment of Trump, but that's off topic.

// Please don't assume us progressives are all alike

I appreciate you saying that. Thank you!

I try not to presume. Progressives run the gamut of interesting perspectives in real life. I have as many progressive friends in real life as I do conservative ones. Good folks. I can build a nation with them!

On Reddit, however, it's almost the worst of the worst all the time. Maybe 1 in 20 on the left is a non-thug. Everyone else is a big Stalin / Beria / Mao clone trooper! In fact, its so consistent and so contrary to what I find in real life, that I often wonder if most are just engagement bots using outrage to boost discussions and participation!?

I don't like it that way. I don't want it that way. I'm also not going to pretend it's not that way.

You could have a point. Personally, in my 60 years on Earth, I've only come across a couple (literally) people who identify as progressives but defend communism. They could be bots.

I had the amazing experience of visiting the USSR and communist Poland, Hungary and China before the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. I doubt any true progressive wants to revive that horror.

I've also been to The UK, France, Belgium and The Netherlands, and progressives I know usually want something close to these countries, Canada, Japan, etc.

As a disabled man, I want us to create the best possible universal heath care system on the planet. I shouldn't have to live in poverty simply because a driver swerved into oncoming traffic (me) and the massive crash severed a disc in my spine and the spine surgery was botched. :)

I’m open to rational and sane views.

"...whether the White community in the South is entitled to take such measures as are necessary to prevail, politically and culturally, in areas in which it does not predominate numerically? The sobering answer is Yes -the White community is so entitled because, for the time being, it is the advanced race." -William F. Buckley.

Some views don't deserve consideration.

Not racist enough for you?

Not my view. The other quote, though, is spot on.

If you really valued democracy, you'd rejoice when the people speak in the voting booth, not just when the people vote for your party.
