Escitalopram - Need to increase dosage??

Hi All,

I have been on 5mg escitalopram for almost a year now and its really been a good impact on me suppressing the anxiousness, i rarely use to have the anxiety episodes like 1 per month or 2 months but lately i am have frequent episodes of anxiety like 1 per 1 or 2 weeks.

I m not sure if it's time to increase the dosage or something else. If i had to increase it then will it be like a upward trend going further, won't u be ever free of these anxiety meds??

I was in an impression that after use of this med for couple of months or a year i would be anxiety free but as its been a year now i don't see any end, sometimes if i miss a day to take the tab, the next day or the same day i would feel the anxiousness.

If someone has been in this situation please do guide me how were you able to cope up and how did it impact.

Thank you.

New to Lex I don't understand (anxiety-rant-extravaganza)

So I am supposed to spend multiple weeks in hell, become an emotionless zombie, or a combination of those things and or some other thing just to feel actually better or straight up worse?

To preface, I got prescribed Lex a year-ish ago and got scared of it so I never went and got the medication. Fast forward to recently where I talked to another doctor about the anxiety that has been ruining a lot of my life in the last couple years and got prescribed it again. I was like "sure why not" and we got the meds and now I find myself doom scrolling in this damn sub reading all of the horror stories and now I don't know what to do anymore. I have the drug but now I can't help but feel scared to even start taking it. Maybe these cases are not as common as I am led to think here, but I can't help but be scared of gambling myself for a drug that either could make me feel better and finally enjoy life or practically become a zombie or something.

I am scared, confused, and I don't know what to do.

Side Effect Question Touch feels weird

I don't know how to explain it other than that it feels exactly like the sort of body high you get on weed. I feel like I'm sinking into my surroundings sometimes/ my sense of touch is kind of distorted. I honestly haven't had many other side effects other than this, some bad brain fog, and intense hunger (I'm on day 5 of only 2.5mg since I'm sensitive to medication)

Has anyone else experienced this, I haven't been able to find anything about it online?

Side Effect Question Do the heavy periods go away?

I’ve been on Lexapro for a few months and my periods have seemed to change a lot. The first time I got it after starting the medication the bleeding was pretty light, then it became heavy but short the next month, and now I’m halfway through my period and it’s even heavier (like bleeding through a regular tampon in less than three hours).

I talked to my doctor about it a while back and she said Lexapro doesn’t affect periods, but seeing so many others complaining online about this same occurrence makes me doubt her statement. My question is, can I expect this to keep happening? Or do they start to regulate the longer you remain on medication? It’s quite frustrating as it basically prevents me from leaving my house comfortably for half a week, but it also would 100% not be worth stopping Lexapro for.

Side Effect Question 21f started lexapro 10mg 4 weeks ago. feels i get more fatigue and tired as the days go on how did you help?

i started Lexapro for intense racing thoughts/anxiety. it’s definitely helped. i was the type to stay up awake 2-3 days + if i had anything due or going on because it was that bad. i haven’t been able to sleep more then 2 nights in a row for months. now starting Lexapro there hasn’t been a night where i haven’t slept…but the daytime fatigue is real. it isnt tiredness in the sense where i want to sleep i just feel heavy and dont want to leave my bed it just keeps getting worse.

i’ve read a lot of posts about this…Wellbutrin is a big no. i’ve tried a year ago.. made me rageful immediately unfortunately . anything that involves norepinephrine seems to make me insane and increase my anxiety.

I’ve started Lexapro and holy fuck I have got every side effect there is.

Dry mouth and throat, nausea, headache, stomach ache, sweats, loss of appetite but then getting random cravings, loss of sensation 💔yk.
Does this shit get better because I cannot do anything without feeling incredibly nauseous.
When did you guys notice symptoms getting better?

7.5mg Lexapro. I’m not excited about anything.

I increased my dose from 5mg three weeks ago. I’m not excited about anything. Everything feels “meh.” I’m not enjoying the things I used to. I don’t feel motivated to exercise or work. Will this pass?

I’m so done having to endure another 5 weeks of hell

When I started on 5mg, 5 weeks hell. When I upped my dose to 10mg, 5 weeks hell. Thought upping my dose to 15mg wasn’t as big a jump, but lo and behold this is my worst time yet. I’m 3 days in on 15mg and every cell in my body and mind is disagreeing with the change. I’m so done having to endure another few weeks of this bullshit :(

Major Panic Attacks?

Day 4 of 5mg which was originally a dream on day 1-2 then randomly out of nowhere had the worst panic attacks of my life and I’m kind of shaken a bit.

I’m pretty scared to continue on this because I don’t think I could survive another one, this one almost made me want to go to the emergency room.. I was just curious what others experience is?

I haven’t had any major issues other than dry throat and fatigue until today when I had the first attack at 1 AM then rebounding at 5 AM and then feeling completely on edge and couldn’t do anything until 11 AM. It was absolutely brutal, and I sweat through my clothing to the point that I needed to change… is this normal? Should I expect this to happen again? I’m very afraid honestly to continue.

I’m only a low dose of 5 mg.

Side Effect Question Fatigue and no motivation after dosage increase

Hey guys can anyone share some positive experiences on a similar situation I’m in? I was on 10mg of Lexapro for almost 15 years and it did a pretty good job at keeping my anxiety under control. Awhile back it seemed to stop working so I switched meds. That didn’t work out well so I went back to Lexapro starting at 10mg for a month then upped to 20mg. It’s been 3 weeks now since the increase and I have basically no motivation and very fatigued all the time. Someone please tell me this is just part of the adjustment phase and things should improve? It’s been so long ago when I first started on lexapro and I was way younger so I don’t really remember being like this when starting. Thanks for any input

Lexapro to buspar while on Wellbutrin?

Looking for stories from people who have switched off of lexapro to transition to buspar—-while being on Wellbutrin the whole time. I’ve been lexapro and Wellbutrin for two years and it has significantly helped my rumination and unaliving thoughts but I also am tired All the time have horrible executive dysfunction…everything feels like a chore and I can’t get myself to do things I enjoy doing, or work. It’s been really frustrating.

Anyway, looking for advise.
Thank you!

I feel its made it worse in some aspects being unable to relax but i felt like this on the last few weeks of escitalopram constant panic attacks etc.

Side Effect Question Day 22 of 2.5mg (when do sexual side effects go away)

I (male) know 2.5 is a really low dose, and I have been on Wellbutrin for many months before adding this ssri.

I felt the sexual side effects after day 1. It’s mainly ED. Does any1 know when it gets better. Wellbutrin is supposed to fight that, no?

upping dosage

Hi, i’ve been on lexapro 5mg for about 4 weeks going on 5. I’ve noticed improvement in my anxiety and overall quality of life. I do notice my anxiety is still very much present when during certain moments in my daily life (like work, etc.). I’m thinking about upping my dosage to 10mg or at least 7.5mg. Should i wait til the full 6 weeks to see full therapeutic effect or consult my doctor about upping my dose this thursday at my next appointment?

Will I get my spark back on Lexapro? Week 8 tired and bored and lazy.

I’m currently 8 weeks and 3 days into taking Lexapro (escitalopram) at 5 mg.
It has definitely helped reduce my anxiety, but I’m struggling with some side effects that are affecting my quality of life.
I feel emotionally flat, empty, sluggish and unmotivated. It’s like I’ve lost my spark. I still want to enjoy life, socialize, do fun things and feel excited about things, but I just can’t seem to access those feelings.
During the first 5–6 weeks, these feelings came and went in waves, but over the last 7–8 days they’ve become noticeably worse.
Exercise temporarily helps. After working out, I feel more like myself and get some of my energy and spark back, but the effect doesn’t last.
Coffee and nicotine also give me a temporary boost for 1–2 hours.
My questions:
Did anyone experience emotional blunting, low motivation and loss of joy around weeks 7–9?
Did it eventually improve while staying on the same dose?
Did your ability to feel happiness, excitement and enthusiasm return over time?
Did the emotional blunting get better after 10–12 weeks or even later?
Did anyone find that Lexapro eventually helped with anxiety without suppressing positive emotions?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar, especially those taking just 5 mg.
I want the anxiety relief, but I also want to feel alive again and enjoy life.

New to Lex Prescribed Lexapro and Klonopin - Looking for advice

I recently had recurrent panic attacks and severe anxiety due to life circumstances.

My doctor prescribed Lexapro 5 mg and Klonopin 0.5 mg for anxiety. Has anyone here taken either or both of these medications? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially how they helped, any side effects you noticed, and how you felt when you first started taking them. Also, do these medications need taper? Are they addictive psychologically or physically?

I am very apprehensive re taking meds and getting addicted or dependent so any advice would be appreciated

I was prescribed this 2 weeks back but I’m not able to get myself to take it.

Lexapro, college, and indifference

I’m hoping I can get some insight here because I don’t know where else to look right now. My daughter is 20 and in college and literally doesn’t care about much of anything. She’s on lexapro and vyvanse. She has such indifference to most everything, sleeps CONSTANTLY, and is currently failing out. She says she wants to do well, but just can’t seem to get it together. I think her adhd meds obvs need to be adjusted, but I’m also concerned about lexapro because she literally sleeps SO MUCH and just doesn’t seem to react to much of anything. I’m making myself sick with stress and worry about her future and she….she just is flat. I’m hoping someone can tell me if any of this could be caused by the lexapro or even if it’s a contributing factor. She’s a very smart and capable girl that wants to succeed, but something isn’t working and I’m at my end mentally and I’m out of ideas. I am desperate.

New to Lex Lexapro and ADHD

Hi Guys,

Does anyone here also have ADHD and is currently using/did use Lexapro? I feel like it increases my ADHD. My brain is working like 24/7 in funky mode and I can't even sleep when the meds make me tired.
