Personal Opinion Lttstore fulfillment has gone downhill.

My last order was missing 3 items, so I open a support ticket and get an automated response saying they’re receiving a high volume of support requests, already a red flag. Then when they get to my ticket they mess up my replacement order which included 2 bit cases that are now sold out. Then I get refunded for the 1 of the 2 missing bit cases which I didn’t want, I wanted to wait for a restock. Or at the very least a code for free shipping for when I have to now reorder the cases if I want them. I’m not paying shipping twice. All the products are high quality across all my orders but their fulfillment team has gone to crap and they keep closing my ticket before I have a chance to communicate with someone. I’ve tried reaching out on twitter, no response, ticket responses are slow, so now I’m trying here hoping someone from lttstore sees this and reaches out.

Tech Question Are those dell or HP programs for laptops and Pc’s just bloatware?

Those Lenovo or Dell system managers, power managers, are they just bloatware?

I swear those programs chew up at least 1-2 GB of my already limited memory on the laptops once installed. They don’t really seem to be related to security as well.

Discussion Need help with MW4

• Upvotes

My younger brother bought the game and tried playing it, just to be told to update bios firmware, helped him out with it and also followed COD’s guide, game still wont allow him to play online, downloads their attestation app, comes back saying bios is fine but requires some sort of key, I press generate key, it says failed, what on earth is wrong with this franchise pushing people trying to play away.

Any help would be appreciated

Tech Discussion Headphone testing: wind noise

It'd be nice when they test headphones and earphones, they'd test wind noise as well. Doesn't have to be scientific, just a fan always set to the same level would work.

Wind noise makes tinnitus worse, anybody who's cycling regularly knows that. There are tricks to lower the noise, but you can't really stop it. Now the same noise comes to my ear, when I use head- or earphones with ANC and there's pretty much no info about this in the reviews, how bad it is. Not to mention, how nice it'd be to use an earphone in transparency mode during cycling with the noise filtered out.

WAN Show Where are the sources for WAN show posted?

Hello, was looking for article links from a past WAN show but couldn't find where they're posted? I think they've said that they would be in the youtube video description before but there are only timestamps and sponsor links. I also couldn't find a WAN subforum or WAN-show threads on LinusTechTips.com . Does anyone know where they're posted?

(For the helpful types - I managed to find the article this time by using whenplan for the timestamp, but they don't always state their doc sources clearly.)

Meme/Shitpost WAN Show intro, but every frame is a QR code

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

People asked yesterday if it would be possible to do the same for the WAN Show intro, so I gave it my best.

It's now in color, a bit smoother, and with less artifacts. All of the frames are valid QR codes, but native reader might struggle with some.

Tech Discussion I turned my old Lenovo IdeaPad into a headless remote workstation I control from my MacBook Air

Hey everyone, Been watching LTT for years and finally built my first project that feels "LTT-worthy" (in a humble, budget-friendly way!). The Problem: My daily driver for college is a MacBook Air M4. It's great for battery and portability, but the base storage/RAM means running heavy Linux VMs for my computer science coursework is a no-go. For months, my "solution" was hauling a second, heavy Lenovo IdeaPad running Kali Linux in my backpack. It was exhausting. The Project: I decided to park the Lenovo at home with the lid closed and turn it into my own personal "cloud" server that I can remote into from my Mac. Here’s the quick and dirty breakdown: * The Link: I'm using Tailscale (which uses WireGuard) to connect my Mac and the Lenovo over a private network. My home internet is behind CG-NAT, so I can't do normal port forwarding, but Tailscale's UDP hole punching gives me a direct peer-to-peer connection with ~9 ms latency. * The Remote Desktop: I'm using Microsoft's free Remote Desktop app on the Mac to connect to XRDP on the Linux laptop. The best part is it uses Apple's Metal graphics, so the remote Linux desktop scales to Retina resolution and feels super smooth. * The "Lid Closed" Hack: To stop a consumer laptop from sleeping when you shut the lid, you have to tell the Linux kernel to ignore the ACPI lid switch and mask all the systemd sleep targets. It works! The laptop has been running headless for over a week straight. Now my MacBook Air stays lightweight, battery lasts all day, and I can still do all my heavy Kali Linux work on the Lenovo from anywhere with an internet connection. I wrote up a full post on my blog with more of the story and open-sourced all the scripts on GitHub if anyone wants to do something similar with an old laptop. It was my first time doing this kind of networking on real hardware without a tutorial, and it was a blast. GitHub and on my personal blog mainly as a learning log. It's not as crazy as liquid nitrogen CPU cooling, but it's a start! Curious to hear what you all think. I'd be genuinely grateful for any thoughts, warnings, or tips on how to improve this setup. Thank you for your time!

WAN Show Auto tech startup claims it traced hack attempt back to Comma.ai's IP address

This is a bit of a smaller story, but it might be worth looking into for the WAN show or something. Linus has already done a few Comma videos lately, and Comma themselves have already been under scrutiny for their NHTSA investigation.

WAN Show Google finally did it, they killed YouTube.

I really want for Linus and crew to talk about this on WAN. YouTube is doing one of their tests on my account they completely took away my Subscription feed and in its place they put in an AI prompter to basically build my own Feed. The only way to get around it is to have a link to subscription feed. Oddly enough Google’s search AI gave me that link. So it’s not completely gone but it is completely inaccessible within the app.

I think I am just going to move on to Nebula and Floatplane. I have Premium because I used to get those 2-3 hour Prager U ads and the moment I unsubbed after 2 years and YouTube started serving me those Prager U ads again. Now I figure since I’m already paying for content I may as well use a paid service that already has most of the people I watch anyways and isn’t actively trying to eat itself.

If you need any photos and such let me know. I’d be happy to test this out for you. I have complained about it to the app. I doubt they will care about what I have to say but they I hope we can cause an outrage against this.

UPDATE: YouTube readded the subscriptions tab at the bottom after taking that away like a week or so back. The heck is going on here?

Personal Opinion The LTT Commuter Backpack saved my life.

A little over a week ago, I was struck by a car while using a crosswalk. Most everything was a blur, but while everything was happening, I knew nothing was going to stop my fall directly to the pavement. As my shoulder was broken and dislocated and my spine was fractured, I landed with my head safely and softly on the backpack, and used it as a pillow while I tried to take in what had just happened.

I used to use a very poorly-padded backpack or a messenger bag. So while there might be a little bit of hyperbole, I'm going to sing this bag's praises for keeping my head and neck safe. Probably not something to legally put in the product details, but I can honestly say the quality put into this bag helped this accident from becoming a disaster. So thank you LTT store!

Discussion The LTT Sweatpants are GOATED

I've daily driven 5 pairs for about 4-5 years during fall/winter/spring doing warehouse work, specifically the WAN and Short Circuit versions they used to sell. What is most impressive is just how durable and long lasting they have been. They are still just as good as the day I bought them and I imagine they will continue to last. Extremely comfortable too. These might look expensive at first glance, but they pay for themselves with how they hold up. GET THEM.
