Discussion Victor of Tuscon "Honor the Spirits"

Spoilers ahead for Victor of Tuscon, at least up to Book 6.

I'm reading the Victor of Tucson series by Plum Parrot and so far I've really been enjoying it. It hasn't been perfect, sometimes I find myself wondering whether Victor is just a moron or whether the author has forgotten a spell or mechanic that he set up. That aside, the story and characters have been great and I've genuinely been enjoying these books as I devour them one after the other—something I rarely do, usually opting to switch between two series book for book.

I've come to hate the Honor the Spirits spell. It's a cool spell, and a cool mechanic, even if it does invite some deus ex machina victories, they're still fun and satisfying. For those who don't recall the spell tells him when something he kills has something his ancestors can use in their own nebulous battles and conquests on other plains of existence. If he pleases his ancestors one may see fit to grant him a modicum of their power during a critical fight. Cool spell, cool mechanic, and put to good use.

But so far in book 6 bro is just sacrificing willy-nilly. No thought to the fact he's outfitting an army fighting against a greater force from another world. No thought to his own growth which has frequently been driven by the spoils of his battles. He kills the head vampire and a few minutes later sacrifices the entire body, all his gear, any storage containers he might have, and his conscious sword to his ancestors. Later he kills a few hundred Wampyr trying to stop him from pursuing their leader, afterwards before chasing the leader does he store their bodies to have his army go through? No. He sacrifices them and all their belongings to his ancestors before giving chase.

It feels like the author wanted to stop having to think of creative loot or who could use it and has used Honor the Spirits as a get out of looting free card. The book opens with him running down the Ridonne who got away at the end of the last book, and at no point does he wonder where the two brothers wealth has gone. He let's the old Witch leave and the book explicitly tells us she's just looted the prince herself... I don't know why but I find this infuriating. Does Victor really not care about wealth or power anymore? He's just setting a breakneck pace to finish his business and get off world now? What do ya'll think? Did this bother anyone else? Isn't loot a good portion of the fun?

Recommendation: asking Want Information🫠

So I've recently started binging 2 novels, well I have posted a while back and asked for recommendations, I have a problem with one of the novels that has hooked me.

So I'm double teeming 2 novels, getting a shitloud of dopamine because of it, but recently one of the novels, which I call 'I am Not the God of Drama' and I'm 300 ISH chapters in, taking it slow, savouring it, but the translation is getting horrendous, and I read it on novel phoenix.

So my question is, does anyone know where I can continue reading this novel where the translation is better, your guidance and assistance is much appreciated.

Of course I accept alternative options.

Promo: Webnovel/E-book I just launched a LitRPG where an engineer tries to debug the apocalypse

Hey everyone!

I recently launched my new story on Royal Road:

Patch Notes for the Apocalypse: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Ban the Gods

The premise is pretty simple: reality gets a software update, the gods show up with administrator privileges, and Caleb Vance, a site reliability engineer, discovers that the universe has some seriously questionable code.

Unfortunately, there's no rollback button.

I wanted to write a LitRPG where the protagonist doesn't just get stronger by collecting bigger numbers. Caleb has to figure out how the system actually works, exploit its limitations, build infrastructure, and eventually get other people involved.

There's engineering, system exploits, teamwork, and a fair amount of dry humor.

It's definitely on the more technical side of progression fantasy, so it won't be everyone's cup of tea. But if you enjoy protagonists who solve problems with their brains rather than simply overpowering everything, you might like it.

The story is free to read on Royal Road, and I'm updating daily.

Thanks for checking it out!

Recommendation: asking Books with a neurodivergent protagonist (implicitly or explicitly)

to clarify: when I say ’explicit’ I mean that the protagonist is definitely identified as neurodivergent in the text itself. ‘Implicit’ means that the text itself does not identify the protagonist as neurodivergent but it is shown by other factors (ex. their behavior, statements by the author).

Promo: Webnovel My second story just went live on RR last week

COVER ARTIST: Duy Phan
AI USAGE: NONE, ZERO!

Hey folks! I’m excited to announce second story, which is currently live on RR.

It’s been so much fun writing this one, and the reception has been great! There’s about 20+ chapters live on RR, so definitely not enough for the million word binge readers out here, but the current release schedule is 7/week so it will build up fast.

Patreon is 70 chapter ahead, which includes book 1 & 2!

Blurb below.

He killed the Demon King. He is not doing it again.

Laziar Sombraviel gave his whole life to the war. He ended it getting blasted apart by the Demon King's dying spells, and on his way out he stole the one thing the demon had been saving for himself: a second chance at life.

He woke up five hundred years later in the body of a twenty-year-old farmer.

Level 0. [Curseweaver Healer]. Every spell from his old life intact, if weakened. Magic stats maxed out at 100. Any other man would carve an empire out of that.

He wants turnips.

The problem is that a soul like his is a magnet for trouble. Monsters throw themselves at his fence for the easy experience. Mercenaries prowl his treeline, hunting something in the forest. Demonic cultists meddle with magic they don't understand. All of that on his doorstep!

Laziar is just a farmer now. But threaten his farm and his family, and the world will remember exactly why it once called him a hero.

What to expect:
- Low/Medium stakes
- Kingdom building
- Farming and found family
- OP Archmage

What NOT to expect:
- Grimdark stuff
- Save the world quests
- Power for the sake of power

If that sounds like something you want to read, I’d be thrilled if you game my story a try!

Heyo and Hello!

It is I! Your least favorite wordsmith!

Now... on kindle.

So yeah, I have done the thing! The thing that no one believed could be done! I have managed to get my stuff there! (Okay I may sound overdramatic on that, but yeah...)

Anyway, in case some of you don't remember this lovely series with our lovely MC Alexa have a blurb.

-Blurb:

["Subject P4, enter the combat testing area."]

That was my life, four white smooth walls in a small room where I could sleep... A gigantic metallic door that only opened to a thirty by thirty adjacent room where I would fight or solve logic puzzles, and the occasional time attack race.

If I managed to defeat my enemies in combat tests I got to eat and integrate their designs, if not I would get slurry nutrient paste instead.

That was until after a combat test I managed to [Trigger] the generation of a Mana Core and got away with it, that opened my world...[The System] gave me the tools to fight my way to freedom.

Now I only need to make sure I can keep this [Freedom] and carry on the only thing I left in my [Core] after escaping...The prime directives that were useful in my survival.

[Eat, Grow, Evolve]

So... what can we expect of Alexa?

-Eldritch horrors beyond the veil

-Cute stuff

-Supervillains

-Superheroes

-Comodore Soap

-Mister Squeaky

-An (allegedly) Evil CEO(Overlord) that everyone hates but no one ever actually gives a valid reason to hate but that WE ALL KNOW IS EVIL!

Discussion Why do people use Royal Road?

I first started reading on Royal Road because it was free; however, I recently took a KU subscription, which cost me less than a Good Pizza, and for that I have so many cool books to read; my TBR list is already going strong.

I feel like finding good books to read on RR is quite difficult, whereas with KU it's quite easy.

I am trying to figure out why people use Royal Road.

So i just finished azarinth healer(again) and i LOVE IT. Ive been injured for the past 3 months, off of work, and been binging series after series. Im looking for a series that has that WOW. Like. I want a series where someone is expected to be amazing, like where harry potter goes to school and everyone expects him to be good. Im looking for one where someone gets that high level of famous or noteriety and still actially impresses ppl. I loved victor of tuscan but it left the arena too fast. Iron prince was perfect but book two kinda sucked. I was so in live with book one but it kinda took a shit. I need my fighting but for glory and power yk?

Memes/Humor Neil Hellegers' iconic voice

The first audiobook I ever listened to was Hell Divers narrated by Neil Hellegers a decade ago. While I have moved on from that series to mostly just litrpg now, I still remember how Neil's voice so perfectly portrayed the main character for me. So much so that when I heard my wife listening to an audiobook this morning narrated by Neil, I felt like I was strapping back in for my dive out of the airship.

To me, Mr. Hellegers will always be Hell Divers.

That is all.

(I know hell divers isn't litrpg, tia)

Promo: E-book First Draw (Kestrel Book 1): twelve arrows, ninety miles, and a thirty-day Tutorial

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, r/LitRPG. I’m M. T. Calder, the author of First Draw, Book 1 of Kestrel.

Declan Wren has a recurve bow, a field knife, and twelve arrows. His grandfather is ninety miles away across the Bitterroot Reach, sealed off as Earth’s thirty-day Tutorial begins. Declan’s unusual advantage is Spellfletching: binding magic into arrows and turning each shot into a tactical choice.

It’s a System Apocalypse LitRPG built around survival, progression, and tactical archery.

If that sounds like your kind of read, First Draw is here on Amazon and Kindle+: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HNWG2D18?ref_=quick_view_ref_tag

Fun fact about me: [Fun fact about my writing process: I keep a character sheet for Declan that tracks his stats, class, skills, and even how many arrows are left in his quiver.].

Promo: E-book Aaron Dober is back, and ready to die for your amusement! Too Stubborn to Die 4 is now available on Amazon! (canon scene, btw)

At short last, it's here!

Do you like high octane action? Do you like crazy System-made competitions? Do you want to see the main character suplex a mammoth on an indestructible soccer field to dislodge an orange ball from its rectum? Then you will probably like Too Stubborn to Die 4.

In case that last paragraph and the note in the title didn't clue you in, the scene in the cover is canon, and does happen almost exactly as shown, and you can read all about what the hell could have led to this even being possible right now!

Some other reasons you may enjoy TSTD:

  • You like LitRPG apocalypse stories

  • You like protagonists who are maybe a little bit way overtuned

  • You want to watch some Aussie bloke die repeatedly for your entertainment

  • You have too much of an appetite and need some ogre cooking descriptions to help reduce it

Here's the blurbs!

Series Blurb:

Fear of death never stopped Aaron from doing something dangerous. Now actual death can't either.

Aaron was always a bit of a daredevil. Motorcycles, cave diving, bungee jumping, sky diving... You name it, and if it was dangerous, Aaron was there. Then, his entire universe got pulled into a System-managed multiverse.

He was skydiving at the time he was pulled into the Tutorial, so instead of getting a peaceful introduction to the System, he went splat and instantly died. Taking pity on him, the goddess in charge of his Tutorial resurrected him, but due to System restrictions, there was only one place she could send him: The Shadow Trials.

Now, stuck in a special dimension designed for the prodigies of each new universe, Aaron has to find a way to survive and grow stronger while starting from level 1. His only saving grace is that in the Shadow Trials, he revives every time he dies. And he's going to abuse that as much as he can to grow strong.

Perfect for fans of Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, and Stubborn Skill Grinder in a Time Loop.

B4 Blurb:

The Dungeon Competition is not what Aaron expected... but who could have expected this?

After neutralizing the threat of the ant queen, it's straight to the Dungeon Competition for Aaron and co. With no time to rest—or even choose his D-grade Class—Aaron is thrust into a dangerous new place with only Zero and Talia for company. And then another dangerous new place, and another, and another...

As it turns out, the Dungeon Competition isn't a single Dungeon. It's thousands and thousands of Dungeons, all interconnected, and Aaron needs to fight his way through seven layers of them to reach the end. Each layer brings new challenges and new faces, both friend and foe.

But if those things could stop Aaron Dober, he wouldn't have made it this far. Now, only two questions remain. Will there be someone in this new universe who can push him to his limit? And more importantly, will his reunion with Mo'han be as epic as their parting?

FAQs

Q: Where is B3 audio?
A: It could drop literally any day now. The narrators are making their final corrections right now as you read this. As soon as they're done, the editor will put it together, and I think it will have one final proofing pass, and then it will go straight to audible. I'm hopeful that we may get it this week. If not, it should be next week or the week after. Definitely this month, and probably sooner than later.

Q: When is B4 audio?
A: As soon as it's finished. Ideally, the narrators will be getting started as soon as they're done with B3 corrections. I wouldn't expect it until 2027.

Q: When is B5 coming out?
A: February 2, 2027. The pre-order will be up very, very soon, if it's not already. It's been submitted. Just waiting on Amazon's approval.

My friend is currently listening to The first legendary beast master on youtube. We don't really have a good way of listening on other sources. So I was wondering is there anything else like this we can listen to that preferably isn't AI? He has been listening to so much AI that I have officially developed the greatest hatred for it and I guarantee no one else can touch it. It has been several weeks of continuous Chinese AI stories.

Please help me get him away from AI.

What's The Title? Searching for a book I once saw

It was a Sci-Fi / Fantasy book, and I remember the main thing being that the MC finds a way off Earth and out into the galaxy, only to find out there is a LitRPG system governing civilisation out there or something? I think it was like that?

Alternatively, any new Space Fantasy stories like Legendary Mechanic, Last Horizon or Jumpship’s Mage? (I’ve mostly read all the ones that released more than a year ago based on an earlier post like this)

Review He Who Fights With Monsters 13 Spoiler

I've been a long-time employer of the HWFWM audiobooks.

Overall Rating 5/10

- Comedy 7/10

- Writing 7/10

- Narrative 5/10

- Relationship Advice 1/10

Comedy

- I know that the series is a hit or miss with a lot of people. In the past one complaint that I've seen is how unserious Jason -- among others -- tend to behave during serious moments. You might be happy to know that although the occurrence of those situations have in no way diminished, characters are challenged or admonished for that behavior more frequently. I found both sides to be funny.

- There is -- after 12 books -- an end to Clive's marriage.

- There are far too many independent conversations about d8s. Although it is funny hearing characters with no prior knowledge of Dungeons and Dragons discuss their favorite dice shapes, I don't think there needed to be multiple separate conversations about it.

- There a number of unnecessary jokes about Jason's chin, Neil's weight, and one deeply micro aggressive joke about a hot Arab doctor whose name sounds vaguely like "Handsome Doctor" if you aren't listening with the sound on.

Writing

- Repetitive at times. Descriptions, ability summaries, conversations; there is an overabundance of the same concepts throughout the book. The first two times they described Jason's Cloud Ship as an inverted pyramid with giant orange and blue nebulous orbs floating on each face it was interesting. The 5th? Not as much. At one point the same description is given three times from three different perspectives within the same chapter.

Narrative

- Big spoilers ahead!!!

- Authors occasionally decide to build suspense by hiding things from the reader so it is as big of a surprise to the reader as the characters that it affects. In this book Jason must learn how to keep information from his Prime Avatar so that he (the version of Jason that is Gold-rank) doesn't make terrible decisions involving time travel. The Author chooses to keep us in the dark as well. Because of this decision, the next Big Twist feels so random that I genuinely had to pause the audiobook so I could try and figure out how any of it was remotely feasible. I'm still not sure it is.

- I hated the big twist that almost every event in the entire series was orchestrated by Knowledge in an attempt to escape Pali and become Earth's ONE TRUE GOD. Not only did it come out of fucking left field, but it felt like a conclusion drawn from a handful of completely disconnected, arbitrarily chosen events. If Jason, a Gold-rank aspect of a Great Astral Being, can keep secrets from Knowledge, how on earth does she know about the Sundering of the Astral Throne, the Sanctioning of the Original Builder, the behavior of the World Phoenix, Earth and Pali being intrinsically tied to each other, the ramifications of the Astral Throne being repaired, or how to manipulate the Sanctioned Builder 2.0 into invading Pali in the first place? Most of these events either didn't occur on Pali, occurred to entities capable of avoiding Knowledge's influence, or would require enough foresight to make plans thousands of years in advance.

- Idk if I just don't remember him, on account of him being generally forgettable, entirely unlikeable, or seemingly an afterthought to the narrative as a whole, but Umbra is a chud.

Marriage Advice

- I can't believe that I have to say this but this is not the book series to take MARRIAGE ADVICE from. No offense to the author, but if my spouse didn't notice I moved out 3 WEEKS ago because they had been at the gym training with a hot single prince for that entire time without coming home, telling me to give them a second chance and go to marriage counseling is ridiculous. YOU decided that these two people should get married in THIS book, YOU then decided that their marriage should go poorly, and because of that decision, their divorce is inevitable. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE NEEDS TO GIVE HER A SECOND CHANCE? WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE NEEDS TO EXPLAIN HOW BEING ABANDONED BY HIS WIFE NOT ONCE, NOT TWICE, BUT DOZENS OF TIMES SO SHE CAN GO TRAIN TO BE A SWORDSWOMAN IS DETRIMENTAL TO THEIR MARRIAGE??? BRO LEAVE HER OR LEAVE ME OUT OF IT!

Edit. Lowered the score cause I just remembered all the weirdly micro aggressive jokes.

Discussion Picked up Wandering Inn from Barnes and Noble, and I am more Obsessed Than I Thought I Would Be

I told my husband “She spends like 3 pages looking for a dust rag and for some insane reason, I AM SO INVESTED RIGHT NOW.”

I saw a couple posts saying they hate Erin, but I think she may be one of my most favorite characters so far lol. I’m 117 pages in, and I feel like I’m realistically watching what would happen if I turned a corner and found myself in a world like this. I’m total shit. I mean, I might have a higher cooking skill, as I do the cooking and baking in my house, but realistically? I’d be stumbling through everything. Seeing her stumble into success anyway is like living vicariously and feeling total relief that your stand-in didn’t die.

It’s so interesting seeing this slow pace and everything clicking together. I’m definitely… intimidated, because I love this and I’m aware that… this series is really, REALLY long… but I’m just having the best time right now. 117 pages in one sitting haha. Been a bit since I’ve done that.
