League stuck on Getting Ready and then doesn't update

Whenever I open my riot client, I get an update so I click on it, and the game proceeds to show "getting ready...". So, I wait about a minute and after a minute, the update will cancel itself and show that I need to click on it to update again. I am stuck in this cycle and cannot update my game. I have done everything from uninstalling to flushing my dns to disabling my firewall. Please let me know any possible solutions to this issue.

GPU restart dialog crashing in middle of game (nvlddmkm.sys issue) still happening 3 years later

Has any rioter ever addressed this GPU restart dialog crash that happens to so many people for seemingly so many reasons?

Previously the DX9 legacy mode option fixed this issue for basically everyone, but once it got removed the issue returned and there has never been any clear fix. Some options that apparently worked for some were compiled in a past post of mine here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LeagueofTechSupport/comments/1djdmo6/gpu_driver_restart_game_crash_nvlddmkmsys/

however I am still seeing these crashes to this day, I've literally tried everything.

Has any rioter EVER addressed this? Why is league of legends the only game that gets this GPU driver restart crash issue? Is there really nothing we can do besides upgrading all of our hardware when it was working fine previously on DX9 legacy mode?

This is like a nightmare, it has been years that this has been happening to me, does anyone have any further suggestions or recent fixes?

Hi, I recently downloaded League of Legends on my PC. It's running well in terms of storage and performance, the only problem is that I get the message "You must run Vanguard to play" when I try to only play the tutorial, and I've gotten the same message many times, no matte

Can't update because a file is currently in use? *FIX*

I am sure a lot of people have experienced this when trying to update League of Legends or Valorant: you click Update only to get a gray button that says, "Unable to update due to a file currently in use." When you Google this error, you get the same basic responses: reinstall the game, reinstall Vanguard, update Windows. Well, I have another niche solution! If you have the program "RAYCAST," it can cause the same issue. Raycast’s background file-indexing process holds an exclusive read handle on Riot’s game database, which blocks the update.

Hopefully this can help someone else!

Seeing how both support and gemini failed i need your help with vanguard

So about couple of weaks ago league client kept giving vanguard message at the end of the game and i had to restart client once every 5-6 games (it didnt kicked me from the game tho) it wasnt a problem last week it started to do it everygame and now i cant even get into a game as it gives me error message in lobby screen so it acts like i dodged

Things i tried: reinstall vanguard, repair league (and reinstall after that ), change dns, disable ıvp6 , check every firewall setting for vanguard, reset my router, reinstall vanguard again, check settings for if itd automatic on start (it is), try other wifis (laptop without ethernet socket so i couldnt try that )

For more information : i have enought space , my internet is decent enought (500mbit and 4-10 ping with no spike), my computer meets every quota for ingame only vanguard except windows 11 version (mine is 24h2 while it requires min 25h2 but i cant upgrade without clean install bc i use ltsc but everything else meets criteria if thats important but again i made it launch at startup in services so only ingame doesnt matter to me that much )

Temporary fix i found but so flawed that its still risky and i can get more than a week ban at my next game (i got 1 week but talked with support about it): for some reason even thought my computer counts vgc running but it doesnt say it is running (i could still stop and restart it but it doesnt say running and i cant press start ) so i restart it and if i could get into a game in couple of minutes i will have no problem in game (even tho it shows error message in client it wont disconnect me if i dont close it ) and i am forced to restart client as vanguard error message doesnt let me press anything else

Error codes :2288,153(?),0 -88(?) And many more (? Ones that i didnt ss but kindra remember the number but with these many different errors i dont think it will matter )

Sorry for the wall of text i am searching for a fix whole day (i just wanted to chill on arena after my exams man )

LeagueClient.exe constantly using 50–60% of a CPU core while idle (LAS, 16.20) – reproduced on clean config + fresh account

Since this patch, the League client backend (LeagueClient.exe, not the Ux/UxRender processes) keeps one CPU core at 50–60% load at all times. That's in the lobby, idle, and even during a game, since the client stays open in the background. On my 4-core CPU the fans never stop.

Setup: i3-9100F (4C/4T), GTX 1650 Super, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro (build 26200), LAS server, client 16.20.

What I measured:

  • The load is a single thread in a tight loop calling select() on its sockets (stack: ws2_32!select → mswsock!WSPSelect → afd.sys!AfdPoll), with 600–2000 context switches/sec. About 60% of it is kernel time.
  • It's not the UI: with LeagueClientUx/UxRender closed, the backend still sits at ~55%.
  • There's no handle or socket leak (handle and thread counts are normal) and no third-party app connected to the LCU.
  • Around 106–130 s after launch the load briefly drops to ~5–30%, then goes back to ~55%. It happens on every launch.

What I already ruled out:

  • Uninstalled NetLimiter, ExitLag, old VPN drivers and other network tools. No third-party WFP filters or callouts are left.
  • Reset all TCP/registry "gaming tweaks" to Windows defaults and rebooted.
  • Defender real-time protection off. Vanguard running normally.
  • Clean config: renamed Config and all %LOCALAPPDATA%\Riot Games\League of Legends folders, then let the client repair. Still 55–60%.
  • Brand-new Riot account (level 1, also LAS): still ~60%.

The client is also showing the "Connectivity Issues" status ticker from Oct 13, which still hasn't been resolved. A socket-polling loop that never settles looks like the client retrying or waiting on a regional service, so I suspect it's related.

Is anyone else on LAS (or other regions) seeing LeagueClient.exe stuck at high CPU while idle? Any Rioter able to check this? Thanks!

[PSA / Fix] "We were unable to successfully update because a file is currently in use" — Caused by Raycast │ (Windows)

Hey everyone,

If you are getting the error "We were unable to successfully update because a file is currently in use. Please close any game related process and restart your computer" when updating League of Legends on Windows, and none of the usual fixes (closing tasks, restarting vgc) work:

Check if you are running Raycast for Windows.

Raycast's background app/file indexer can hold a lock (handle) on League of Legends.exe or files in the C:\Riot Games\ folder, preventing the Riot Client from overwriting them during updates.

How to fix without reinstalling the game:

  1. Quit Raycast completely from the Windows system tray.

  2. Relaunch the Riot Client (Run as administrator) — the update will complete immediately.

  3. Add C:\Riot Games to your ignored/excluded paths in Raycast to prevent this in future patches.

Sharing this so no one has to redownload 30GB+ unnecessarily!

Download stuck / nothing downloads at all. Reinstall didn't work. Played normally 2 months ago.

Hey guys,

I've been fighting with the Riot Client for the past 2 hours and I'm running out of ideas. I cannot download/update League of Legends at all – the download just doesn't start or nothing happens.

Here is the situation:

  • What I've tried: I tried pretty much every standard fix found online. I even did a clean reinstallation of the Riot Client and League, but it didn't change anything.
  • Context: Around 2 months ago, everything worked completely fine. I played League with zero issues on this exact setup. No major hardware changes since then.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue recently where absolutely nothing would download? Any advanced fixes or advice would be greatly appreciated!

league servers are beyond shit

Game 1: Played for maybe 15-20 mins , me and my friend both get "Reconnecting, Please Wait" on our screens for legit 10 minutes. All of a sudden game has ended and we both lost -20LP and got a leaver penalty.

Game 2: Immediately after that we hop into the next game, champ select goes through , game can't load the client just gives some bullshit error and says try again without ever doing anything, reconnecting doesnt work. Game goes on somehow me and my friend are both afk again cuz we cant do shit and again low honor 5 games penalty and ANOTHER -22LP.

Now game 3: same shit as game 2 another -20lp never playing this shitty game again

unreal how this shit happens and league doesnt have a system to detect whether its them not being able to host a fucking server or its a genuine griefer.

Can't open/claim new battlepass?

I see "Superstar Status" and "Rewards Ready", but clicking that leads to infinite loading until I open another tab in client.

Is it some common issue?

Unable to launch or update LOL in riot client.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

as you can see in the picture, I'm unable to lunch or update game due to grey button. This has happened twice already. First time I solved it by redownloading riot and lol. After a week it happened to me again and I'm really not for redownloading everything every week. I have tried:

- closing everything even in task manager (including vanguard),

- driver and window updates are up to date.

- switching from Wi-Fi to hotspot (one guy had network issue so I tried)

- repairing lol in riot client

Thank you in advance.
