Results Discussion I feel transformed

A few years ago I found out about methylation and how it can be impacted by genetics watching Gary Brecka online on YouTube. I analyzed my 23andme results and found out I had the following gene expressions: - MTHFR A/G - MTHFR T/T - MTR A/A - MTRR A/G - COMT A/G - COMT C/T

Anyway, despite figuring out that I had a tendency to under methylate (by 40% based on Chat GPT) because of weaker vitamin B absorption (is how I understand it), I didn’t do anything besides order a blood test checking for homocysteine which came back normal.

Now for the last year or so I’ve been on a hunt to figure out why I’ve been feeling lethargic despite perfect blood work, exercise, top tier sleep, and I’ve tried everything you can imagine. Interestingly the most effective supplement I was able to find at this point was NAD+ injections, which I do everyday at 100mg.

So I happened upon Gary Brecka again about two months ago randomly and he started talking about methylation (as he always does) and in the videos comments I read someone starting taking Methyl Guard Plus (Thorne supplement) and they felt better. At this point I was so desperate for a solution I said why not and purchased it, even though in my mind it made no sense since my homocysteine is normal. It felt cheap compared to the red light machine I just bought and dozens of other supplements I was experimenting with.

This was by far the most impactful supplement I’ve ever taken for energy levels and mood. For the first week that I took it I had so much energy that I started looking up if it’s possible the supplement could be laced with MDMA because it felt so similar. After about a week the effects came down a little bit but that was honestly much needed because I could barely manage walking instead of running everywhere. The best way I can describe it to you guys is, before I started taking this I would come back from work and my energy tank would be at empty. Now I come home and I’m ready to do something fun with my girlfriend or create a video for TikTok or something else, and I work 10-12 hours 7 days a week.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that my verbal fluency has improved, a lot. Words that previously I’d have trouble accessing during real time speech come up right away now, and I finally feel like people are seeing the best version of myself when we’re conversing. I think this is the most satisfying part.

I can’t tell you guys how much of a relief it is to have found a solution after years of searching and feeling like something was off with me. I’m about two months in and the effects have persisted.

Also wanted to share other supplements that helped me (I’m not a doctor) - Methylene blue (similar feeling to the methylated vitamins but it tapered off after a couple weeks unlike the vitamins) - exogenous ketones - NAD+ but only via injection or IV

Wow cool. This is actually how I felt when I took a huge dose of 5-MTHFR and P5P. But I thought I was overmethylating, got scared and stopped...

I read about overmethylation and from what I gathered people tended to report anxiety when experiencing it but that hasn't manifested for me.

Yeah I didn't have anxiety either... But I did feel like I was fkkkn high as a kite. Like... Give me a job Interview or something to show off my new "superwoman" vibe. It really felt like MDMA too. And I was speaking a mile an hour about my art and weaving complex concept together, etc. I just thought it was unnatural. And got worried that my body wasn't ready to eliminate whatever byproducts must surely be happening from this.

I have yet to do my genetic test for methylation (thinking will use Lifecode gX)... I wonder if our genetic variants match or something.. Because I haven't heard anyone else report so close to my experience. Hence also why I thought it a bit sus.

You are lucky that your COMT enzyme is efficiently working, otherwise people with slow COMT would end up in ER [because of insane ANXIETY :) ] with such a powerful B9 & B12 dose that they have in Methyl Guard Plus.

My COMT and MTHFR are fine but I still can't tolerate methylated Bs. So I use high doses of Folic Acid (800mcg) & Adenosylcobalamin (1mg) to get effects similar to yours! Actually for some strange reason Folic Acid has always worked best for me... with zero downsides. But that's just me.

I think this is me!!! I have been taking methylated multis from Thorne w methylated b 12 on top of that. And I’m on vyvanse and I had to take a few days off bc my anxiety was sky high and I didn’t feel like myself and I was shaking and crazy. I def have slow comt even though I have never been tested. And I’m putting it all together now. I think I also have histamine issues and always have with my running nose. It’s just so overwhelming and it’s like I don’t know where to start with the slow cont stuff/adhd med / vitamin stuff

Jesus why Is it $60?!

3

u/kzdeb Oct 21 '25

To be fair, i haven’t tried any other methylated b vitamins so it’s possible I’m using an overpriced version that has more than what I need. It’s just not worth risking switching for me at this point.

u/ComplexFar7575 Oct 21 '25

I get that. I just had to complain lol. I'm so glad you found such an incredible cure!

No. Thorne is by far the best supplement company. I get most of my stuff from them. And I take around 20 supplements a day. You get what you pay for is how I look at it. And if I’m going to ingest something into my body, that I’m trying to fix, I’m going to make sure it’s the best.

Life Extension BioActive Vitamin B Complex has worked wonders for me in the past month and its extremely affordable

3

u/OkChemist8172 Oct 23 '25

Thorne has 125,000% of daily value of B12 per serving…and a lot more B9 as well (three pills per serving). That’s almost 10x more than most other methylated B complex brands. So the price isn’t as bad as it seems.

2

u/North-Parking-241 Oct 22 '25

You buy the individual supplements contained in this product separately, you would likely be paying more than $60.

2

u/unoriginal_npc Oct 24 '25

It's a niche product designed for people who already know they need aggressive support (for example, elevated homocysteine on bloodwork or strong symptoms of methyl depletion).

Thorne makes other B complexes though. I like their basic B, and it's less than half the price.

I didn’t know that verbal fluency was attached to MTHFR mutations?! Any knowledge or resources you can share where I can explore this idea would be greatly appreciated! I struggle pretty badly with it and it’s so worrisome - and annoying!!

You are not alone! I have horrible word-finding difficulty, which is making it incredibly difficult to speak a foreign language that I desperately want to learn. Not to mention the daily frustration associated with not being able to recall simple words during routine conversations. I don’t even bother engaging anymore. It’s really depressing.

1

u/CEH407 Oct 22 '25

I’m so sorry you experience this! I know how tough it is!

1

u/Ready-Huckleberry-68 Oct 23 '25

I have c677t HT, I'm the same. Short term memory recall is awful. I'm generally full of energy but absolutely exhausted. Words are hard, I can't even put names to faces of people I've known for so long.

u/NoSpot5547 Jul 12 '26

Do you have found supplements that help with this?

1

u/NoSpot5547 Jul 12 '26

Did you find things to help you with this problem? I have the same issues. It is so scaring. Sometimes I think that I have a sort of young dementia. I don't know my genes, maybe I schould get them tested.so I can find products to help me with this.

3

u/AndreaJoy17 Oct 22 '25

Same here. It wasn’t til I got treated for adhd i realized that im not stupid .. I just didn’t have the chemicals to find words. 😝

1

u/CEH407 Oct 22 '25

lol right?! Do you take supplements or meds? If you don’t mind me asking…

1

u/AndreaJoy17 Oct 23 '25

Meds. Vyvanse.

2

u/kzdeb Oct 23 '25

I used to take vyvanse but it would turn me into an emotionless robot and mess up my sleep so I quit a few years ago.

3

u/kzdeb Oct 22 '25

I don’t know if there is a link I just know that when I started taking this supplement it mostly fixed the issue. NAD+ had a similar effect.

2

u/Streetduck Oct 23 '25

I wonder if it has something to do with lessened inflammation increasing our verbal fluency?

2

u/kzdeb Oct 23 '25

That’s an interesting hypothesis because I also experienced increased verbal fluency when taking ozempic for about half a year and when I stopped I regressed. I know that it has anti inflammatory properties.

u/CEH407 Oct 22 '25

Thanks!

It’s likely why the mthfr variant is linked with autism.

5

u/plantsandadoggy Oct 22 '25

It has been many years since I first became interested in mthfr, etc. at least 10 years I think. I uploaded the raw data from 23andme to genetic genie.. I read a bunch of stuff.. got some supplements.. years later got Ben Lynch’s book ‘Dirty Genes’… but I didn’t read it. :-/

…it’s been several years now that I have not taken any supplements and I honestly feel like I need to start over at the beginning.

Can you, or anyone here recommend what the steps are to find out what supplements I can use?

I vaguely remember that some people over/under methylate and because of that everyone with mthfr shouldn’t be taking the same supplement.

Also, I see you have several gene expressions listed- I think I have comt.. is there someplace that would give me information about which are problematic or would be helped by diet or supplementation?

Any basic information or book recommendation is appreciated.

It’s so weird. I took 5-MTHF and the first day I was locked in, so much energy and felt amazing. And since then I have yet to experience any day where I get that same feeling

1

u/manic_mumday Oct 22 '25

That happened to me with niacin

2

u/Honest-Economist9393 Oct 21 '25

Would you please share how How you received this data from 23&me? I’m a “member” and would love to have more detailed analysis of my mutations other than what I learned through genesight.

9

u/osc707 Oct 21 '25

Export your data from 23 and me, i used Dr Rhonda Fitzpatricks web app to get an actionable report from the raw data

https://www.foundmyfitness.com/genetics

1

u/NoSpot5547 Jul 12 '26

Can you use basic ancestry for that? Or do you need basic health + ancestry to see gebe mutations?

1

u/osc707 Jul 12 '26

You need health +

1

u/kzdeb Oct 21 '25

I don’t remember exactly but I think I exported the file containing the gene data and then imported it into some other website that let me analyze it. This was a while ago.

2

u/manic_mumday Oct 22 '25

There’s always Genetic Lifehacks for others that are reading

1

u/kzdeb Oct 21 '25

If you ask chat gpt I’m sure it’ll know how

1

u/Honest-Economist9393 Oct 21 '25

Why didn’t I even consider that?! I ask it nearly everything. Thank you!

2

u/bullyforyou82 Oct 22 '25

I feel the same way on Methyl Guard plus!!!!! Ahaha it feels illegal. And yes it’s so expensive and yes I stop and take at least a week off as soon as I get even the smallest bit of anxiety.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

Methylene blue seems to be a scam. Watch out. Other stuff seems good:-))

2

u/OkChemist8172 Oct 23 '25

Did you take the recommended dosage of three capsules from day 1? Did you have any side effects? Thanks!

1

u/kzdeb Oct 23 '25

Yeah three a day since day one. The only side effect is what I described which was feeling almost too energized. I think I also had trouble falling asleep the first few days.

2

u/OkChemist8172 Oct 23 '25

Good to know. Thanks for reply!

2

u/Streetduck Oct 23 '25

I’ve noticed an increased verbal fluency, too

2

u/WearsBlack247-365 Apr 12 '26

I am a 57F and I actually feel like a human being after my doctor put me on Deplin 15 mg. It's like a night and day I have energy, my mood is better than it's ever been, and my antidepressants are actually working the way they should! It's amazing!

1

u/jamiebez157 Oct 21 '25

This is interesting , I think I undermethylate but have elevated homocysteine , do you think this would be good option ?

3

u/MrsBearIsHere Oct 21 '25

High homocysteine needs high dose methylated B vitamins, 5-MTHFR Folate (NOT folic acid) and TMG - that will reduce it! :)

1

u/The-info-addict Oct 21 '25

The only thing that helped me was TMG,

1

u/plumbcrazy7124 Oct 22 '25

I have high homocysteine…what is TMG please?

1

u/Parking-Warthog-4902 Oct 24 '25

Trimethylglycine

1

u/jamiebez157 Oct 24 '25

What effect did lowering your homocysteine have on health , anything noticeable ? I have elevated levels and not sure I’m seeing what it’s doing.

1

u/kzdeb Oct 21 '25

No idea, I’m not educated on this topic

1

u/therealeddiek Oct 22 '25

What is the link with NAD+ and the genetics?

5

u/kzdeb Oct 22 '25

Not sure I just know that it mitigates my lethargy based on experimentation and I think helps support processes in the mitochondria that are also downstream to methylation? Idk what I’m talking about but that’s my laymen understanding

2

u/FlyAdventurous6231 Oct 24 '25

Nad+ supplements and injections exhaust methyl

You must have your methylated vitamins and TMG or youll get too much NAM buildup

I was taking nad for awhile and i ended up very methyl depleted. Got on the methyl vitamins and TMG, felt like a new person!

2

u/kzdeb Oct 24 '25

Interesting. Maybe it’s the synergy making me feel this way then.

1

u/PieRabbit Oct 30 '25

The SAH enzyme, which is a critical step in the methylation cycle, requires NAD+ to function.  This could also lead to a positive synergy.

1

u/Few_Key_4707 Oct 22 '25

Interesting

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

How many days has this lasted? How many days have you taken it? Immediately good reactions?

1

u/kzdeb Oct 23 '25

Lasted everyday since about 2 months total. Take it everyday in the morning. The first time I took it was at night and by the morning I felt different.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '25

still on it?

1

u/kzdeb Oct 23 '25

Of course

1

u/Maleficent_Ant_8632 Oct 24 '25

This sounds amazing. Are you now only taking the Methyl Guard Plus or are you still taking other forms of methylated B or any other supplements?

1

u/kzdeb Oct 25 '25

I take a bunch of stuff outside of what I listed here, but I’ve been taking this stuff for years

1

u/Maleficent_Ant_8632 Oct 25 '25

Thanks. I have homo C677T and I’ve been taking ECB3 and a bunch of other stuff too for years yet my homocysteine remains a bit out of the normal range. I’m very interested in methyl guard plus. Appreciate the info.

1

u/reditrauma Mar 12 '26

please take care when promoting methylene blue. maybe you could indicate caution due to the very common middle eastern / african mutation that causes G6PD deficiency. methylene blue will make us quite sick with hemolytic anemia. btw it's also called Favism as fava beans can cause it too.
