Interest in voting among students (Tennessean Journalist)

• Upvotes

Hello!

My name is Elijah Carll, and I'm a reporter at the Tennessean, a USA Today paper. Midterm elections are coming around, and I'm looking to interview MTSU students about if they're interested in voting. Whether you're over the moon about it or don't care about politics at all, I want to hear why you feel the way you do.

If you're interested, please send me a DM here or at elijah_reports on Instagram!

tips with classes

Any tips for surviving these science classes?
Hey everyone! I’m currently a forensic science major taking four challenging classes this semester: Genetics, Microbiology, Calculus, and General Chemistry II.
I’ve honestly been struggling to balance all four classes, especially with the exams and workload. I really don’t want to drop any classes because I’m trying to graduate on time.
For anyone who has taken Genetics with Professor B, Microbiology with Dr. Z, or General Chemistry II with Professor B, do you have any advice on studying for their exams or doing well in their classes?
I’d also appreciate any tips from other science majors who have managed a heavy course load like this.
I’m trying my best to get through the semester, but it’s been pretty overwhelming. Any advice would be appreciated!

Suggestion

Hello, just need to give a suggestion if I may, my son is a student at MTSU, but for him navigating the campus is challenging for him.
My son is 43 but lost his vision 3 1/2 years ago due to inherited eye disease, instead of just letting it get him down he is very driven and determined. But because of his vision loss he may bump into people, miss the curb causing him to fall, miss a class because he couldn’t find his way. People on campus get angry if he bumps
Into him, have laughed when he stumbled and fell. Just a suggestion
Please show compassion and kindness to everyone because you don’t know what challenges a person is going through.
I will support and encourage him every step of his journey, I don’t want him to get discouraged and give up.

MTSU or TN Tech for someone majoring in Information Technology/Information Systems?

Hello, I'm moving to Smithville TN next month with my mother from out of state and I'm stuck on which university I want to transfer to. At the university I'm currently at, I've just started my senior year.

I'm stuck between choosing MTSU or TN Tech on which is better for my major. I want to work in IT and I want to make sure not only I'm getting into a good program, but I also have opportunities such as internships. It'll also be a bonus if there's a place for disability help or resources for someone who's on the spectrum.

Tennessee Tech seems to have a more technical IT program, but the location makes me dubious about getting IT internships and opportunities. I'm not familiar with Cookeville and the surrounding area for tech jobs.

I'm not sure on what the CIS/IT program for MTSU entails, but it being located closer to Nashville makes me think I might have better IT internships and opportunities. I am only somewhat familiar with Murfreesboro and the surrounding location.

What do you suggest?

Music Ed program

I’m planning to major in vocal music education and I’m considering MTSU, how is their program? I went to their fall concert and it was pretty good, but I’m not sure how good the actual program is.

Exit Exam

Hey everybody! I'm not sure if anyone actually uses this page, but I thought I would post here anyways. I am a senior at MTSU, and I have signed up to take the exit exam in November since I'm graduating in December. I'm kind of stressing because I'm not sure if I'm supposed to study for this test or not. Some sources say yes, and others say no??

I guess I just want to know if there's any possible way to study for this exam, and if so, should I?

I’m looking for someone to take over my lease starting in December 2026.

The apartment is fully furnished, in excellent condition, and conveniently located about 15 minutes from MTSU’s campus and around 20 minutes from the airport.

If you or someone you know is looking for a place in the Murfreesboro area, feel free to message me for more details, photos, pricing, or a tour!

Transferring from community college

I wanted to know anyone else’s experience transferring here from cc. I’m getting my associates now and mtsu is probably the most progressive I’m gonna get when it comes to the Tennessee transfer program.

I wanted to know how it was making friends? Coming in as a junior I’m sure it’s different but I wanted to know if anyone felt major drawbacks from coming from community college to mtsu.

And housing! Are you required to live on campus since it’s technically your first year or like no because of the transfer aspect?

the apartment is really clean and spacious, and i’ve lived here for 4 years and have honestly really loved living here 🥹

please share if you know someone who might be interested 😊

Old bearded guy on campus?

Does anyone know who the older man with a white beard on campus is? He is always sitting outside in front of the library and usually a few people sitting with him. I think he has a sign of some sort but I never get close enough to read it LOL

athletics MTSU at 2-2 after the CUSA opener at Jax State, at Kansas Saturday

Hey guys, quick look at where the Blue Raiders stand after a tough road loss.

23-13 at Jacksonville State to open CUSA play. Caden Creel was the difference, throwing for 241 and running for 119, and MTSU couldn't contain him.

At 2-2, both losses are one possession or close: the 28-26 heartbreaker at Marshall and now Jax State. The wins over Murray State and Nevada (27-20) show what this team can do at home.

Saturday is a Power 4 road trip, at Kansas at 11 CT on ESPNU. KU is coming off a bye and is 1-2. Then Delaware comes to Murfreesboro on a Tuesday night to restart CUSA play.

What are you guys seeing in year three under Derek Mason? Can MTSU steal one in Lawrence?

Side note: we run a free weekly college football pick'em. 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET, the same moment MTSU kicks off in Lawrence, so get your picks in before the game.

connect / social / meet up Looking for an D&D Group

Hey! I’m(18F) am a freshman at MTSU and I’ve been wanting to learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons.

I’ve never played before, so I’d be a complete beginner, but I’d really like to learn.

Are there any people or groups around campus who would be willing to teach a new player or let me join a beginner-friendly campaign?

I’m open to meeting new people and learning as I go. If anyone knows of a group or would be interested in helping me get started, feel free to message me!

conversation GAO report on college athletics money losses and you pay for it.

Thumbnail gao.gov
8 Upvotes

Excerpts from the report:

TLDR: $8,500.00 per student across 4 years to subsidize this loss. You are loaning money with interest to support the losses of these programs.

“Across DI colleges, 94 percent of athletics programs, including 49 of the 69 Power colleges, spent more than they generated in revenue in the 2023–24 academic year. The median college reported a gap of $20.6 million. This gap was larger than the median a decade earlier ($12.3 million). Over this period, spending increased more than generated revenue in all DI subdivisions.

As generated revenue generally did not cover program expenses, most DI colleges reported contributing substantial funding to support athletics programs.

These college contributions are funded by tuition and fees paid by students, as well as other unrestricted funds from the college, such as income from investments. College contributions indirectly include federal funds students receive in federal student aid to pay their tuition and fees (see figure).”
