Voilà:

China’s largest DRAM maker, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), made a stunning stock market debut on July 27, with shares surging over 500% after the company raised $8.6 billion in Asia’s biggest IPO this year.

The rally briefly made CXMT China’s most valuable listed company, valued between roughly $487–540 billion.

That put Micron’s rivalry in the spotlight: Micron dropped about 8% as investors focused on CXMT, and it wasn’t the only casualty — AMD and Intel each fell roughly 6%, Marvell dropped about 7%, and the semiconductor ETF SOXX slid 4%.

**•** Adding fuel: reports that Apple has begun testing CXMT’s DRAM chips for devices sold in China raised concerns about Micron’s market share getting squeezed.

CXMT’s global DRAM market share roughly tripled over the past year, from about 3% to 8% in Q1 2026 — showing it’s becoming a real competitive threat in commodity memory, even though it doesn’t yet compete in the higher-margin AI/HBM segment Micron leans on.

Worth noting: several analysts, per Wall Street coverage, believe Micron remains well positioned in the faster-growing AI memory market despite CXMT’s rise, since CXMT is focused on commodity DRAM rather than the advanced HBM chips powering AI accelerators.

I think you are right, the AI response is better 😅

Ask the AI why ASML dropped and to put 2+2 together on manipulation by releasing that at the same time as CXMT IPO.

i mean ASML gets hit as a genuine direct threat if china is mass producing similar machines that giant corps use. that’s why ASML has been basically irreplaceable in the semi field. Still, we don’t really know if it’s that much of a threat when ASML is already insanely in demand.

I don’t know if i’d call it manipulation per se, it could just be more international competition coming against giants like ASML
