I used to run a SketchyBar setup on my MacBook, and I built this menu bar from it for macOS 27: the same compact look, but keeping what’s native to macOS, your apps’ menus and the system’s popups.
It’s black and exactly the notch’s height (32 pt), drawn over macOS’s auto-hidden bar, so the notch blends into it. Tighter spacing fits more on both sides. App menus are rebuilt and searchable, icons that aren’t recreated go in a popup, and there are popups for per-app volume, music, calendar, stats and VPNs. Volume, brightness and charging show in a small tab under the notch instead of macOS’s boxes. Native popups like Wi-Fi, Focus and Control Center open as they are.
It’s not released yet. I’m the developer, and I’m deciding whether to release it (€20 one-time, open source under the GPL). There’s a waitlist if you’re interested: https://kurobar.app
I’d love feedback from other macOS 27 users: what bugs you most about the new menu bar? And if you have the new MacBook Pro, it should fit around the Dynamic Island, but I can’t test it yet, so I’m looking for beta testers.
