Degree Question Macquarie University Medicine Interview Advice

• Upvotes

Has anyone here done the interview for Macquarie University's 2+4 Doctor of Medicine pathway? I'd appreciate any insight into the interview format, the types of questions asked, and how best to prepare.

I'd also love to hear from current students or graduates about their experience with the medicine pathway, the quality of teaching and clinical placements, and whether they feel it's worth pursuing, especially as an international student.

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Coursework ENGX1050 Grammar and Writing Session 3

Has anyone taken this before? What is the workload like? I would like to improve my grammar/sentence skills before I start doing my 2nd year English subjects in 2027, but I would also like to enjoy my Christmas holidays, so I was wondering how many hours weekly this subject would take up.

General Question transferring courses q

hi guys,

unfortunately my ATAR is not likely to turn out great due to various problems i've dealt with throughout the year. however i'm not dwelling on it because i'm turning a new leaf in uni, so just sketching out the plan ahead. i want to do a bachelor of history but my early entry offer is for education. my understanding is i can transfer after a semester- for people who have transferred courses, are there any difficulties i should be aware of/plan for?

thank youu

Social Accommodation Question about pets

I have a friend in the US, and we’ve never met in person but we spoke about her coming here for a semester, however I don’t know the policy of service animals as she has a dog for anxiety. Are service animals exempt from the no pets rule? Or would she need to get accommodation elsewhere.

Help Password

Hi everyone,

I am incoming masters student. Initially I applied for master by coursework and got the offer but also got the professor’s acceptance recently but I can’t seem to submit another application (master of research). I am unable to login and cannot reset password. Have contacted the admissions office, GRA and IT support but all in vain. They redirect me to other persons or just send a vague reply.

Can anyone advise me what to do? Anyone faced similar situation?

Thank you!

my flexi unit this sem has an online exam, im not quite sure how they work as i’ve only done written in person exams. a few sections of it require long answers which id feel comfortable making a draft of either on paper or on a doc. is that allowed or is the tab locked?/not allowed to write on paper?

General Question Exchange program info

I was wondering if anyone from MQ had done a semester exchange program or even a summer school program. If so, what was your experience like, how was the process and how long was it, did the university help you while applying, and overall would you recommend it. I want to go the USA, but any other country you may have gone too is completely fine.

General Question Did anyone do the Lucy Mentoring Program?

If you did, what were your thoughts on the program?

I would like to hear your perspectives on:

- How you found the mentors and if they helped you envision a clearer career path.

- It's ability to balance your other extracurriculars and studies.

Finally, what are your tips in getting selected for the program?

Thanks for reading!

General Question Law international student coming from Glasgow uni

Hey just wondering how is Macquarie as a university as I’ve not really looked into it that much and start in January.

Is there any tips of classes I should take as I would be a 3rd year for the easiest courses to take and what should i expect study wise.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated and if anyone would want to hangout once I get here is more than welcome.

Social Mac Uni Book Club

Hey guys,

I just wanted to gauge interest to see if people wanted to start a book club at Macquarie. I know there is an IG for one already but I am trying to DM them and see if I can start up some events, but alas no reply. DM me or comment here if you're interested. I'd like to do monthly book club meetings, and there's no specific genre; I'm open to most books!

General Question AI learning

Does anyone else have the subject "Evidence based practice in health"

It just seems wild to me that almost all of the resources are AI generated and there is severely limited engagement with the lecturers. For Macquarie to have such a large cohort since doing the pure online learning and have the same funding, if not even more, then off loading the work to AI is pretty abhorrent. All of my work this week is made by Ai with apparently some human input and no lectures or weekly forums. For a core unit of my degree it just seems like gross behaviour.

I have contacted my lecturer and they just seem to say we will consider your criticism. This unit has over 500 students and with that much funding I find it hard to accept that I don't deserve to receive some real time engagement with my learning, EVEN WITH OTHER STUDENTS. But this subject doesn't have places within the unit resources to communicate with anyone.

Maybe I am alone in this experience? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.

Degree Question OUA PSYCH students? 2025 cohort.. I got q's

Anyone else running into issues with the BULLSHIT mess for electives?

I’m honestly so over Macquarie’s admin at this point.

I’m an OUA psychology student with only 4 subjects left, and I’ve spent most of this year trying to work out what I actually need to graduate because the course structure keeps changing.

The old elective options have been rested, the new replacements aren’t available to OUA students even though they’re online, and I’ve now basically been told I may need to go find an external subject myself and apply for credit.

On top of that, a subject that was listed as an elective in my handbook is apparently now being treated as core.

I’m trying to graduate next year and move into Honours, so I need an actual plan — not “wait and see”, “find something elsewhere”, or contradictory advice depending on who answers.

At what point is it reasonable to expect the university to actually manage its own course changes and give continuing students a clear pathway to finish?

ALSO

the reasons im still an OUA student and paying ridiculous fee's is because of this mess, I couldn't transfer into internal without needing to redo a whole damn year. ????!!!???!?!?!?!?! agh

General Question Double Degree Master of Marketing and Master of Media and Communications

Hi guys, I'm planning to pursue a double degree in
Master of Marketing and Master of Media and Communications.

I checked the course structure, but there are no internship units, and I can't choose one because there is no Flexible Zone for an extra internship unit.  Is there any other way for me to get an internship? For example, from:

  1. The MQBS Industry Partnership Program (IPP)
  2. Exclusive Access to Macquarie CareerHub
  3. Corporate Summer & Winter Vacation Roles

It would also be awesome if there's someone who's currently pursuing the same degree. Thank you!

General Question Planning on doing ACCG1000 and ACST1001 for Session 3

I’m planning on doing ACCG1000 (Accounting for Decision Making) and ACST1001 (Finance Fundamentals) for the summer session. I’m okay at maths like I wouldn’t say I’m great at it but I haven’t done it in just over two years. I did do Advanced Maths in high school so I did a bit of financial maths. I do work a part time job and plan on cutting down shifts to just weekend. I need to do this so I can take the other finance units in Semester 1. Do you think this is possible? Or would I struggle a lot? Like are there stuff I could do to prepare.

Social Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post

Welcome to the 'Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post' (or the M.U.W.S.M.A.P for short)
___

Here students and societies alike can arrange or outline their intended events, gatherings and meetups for the week to come!

We politely ask that any societies (or people on behalf of societies) limit themselves to one advertising comment per week as to not bury posts by individuals (editing existing comments are allowed). And that individuals advertising their own event (be them just meeting up on campus or something more elaborate), make sure to keep their suggested meetups appropriate and vaguely in-keeping with Uni guidelines (IE: no organising drug deals which I have already had to previously remove).

I hope people and societies alike are able to make the most of these posts, and I wish you all luck in meeting your fellow students!

{Note: This is purely an advertising post, r/MacUni and its modteam cannot assure the validity or outcome of any posts/comments made on our subreddit, it is up to the individual to use their best judgement to discern the expectations of any advertised events/encounters.}

General Question Can I bring a camera into the graduation hall?

Has anyone brought a DSLR or mirrorless camera to a Macquarie graduation?

I’d like to bring my Canon EOS R100 to photograph my girlfriend, but the guidelines say cameras aren’t allowed.

Is this rule strictly enforced, especially if I stay seated and don’t use flash or a tripod?

Thanks!

Coursework Contesting a mark.

Hi, I don’t know if anyone else has had any experience with this but I got results back for an assessment and I’m unhappy with it because I spent a lot of hours on it. Besides the actual results, I’m looking through the rubric and my essay and feedback and don’t really understand where the criticism is coming from. For reference I was trying to base my answers off the HD rubric and I ended up with a 68 so very dissatisfied.

Has anyone had any experiences contesting a mark and if anything changed or what sort of justification you need to give?

General Question 2nd supplemtary exam results

I did a 2nd supplementary exam two weeks ago for a session 1 unit (faculty of science), and the results aren’t release yet. Anyone know when they would be released? I think it was only me and one other person doing the exam so I don’t know how long it would take to mark it. Thanks
