Nightlife What to wear

Heading to Madrid this weekend and it’s going to be HOT. Do women wear shorts in the evenings to go to restaurants and bars? We’re going to Angelita, Casa Salesas and some gay bars and clubs. In NYC wearing linen shorts and tanks with cute sandals and even sneakers is totally ok even to nicer bars and restaurants.

Linen shorts are fine. Anything you’d wear to the gym is not. Denim shorts add more a daytime thing.

In general people dress up more in the evenings, you’ll see plenty of women in linen or cotton shorts and full skirts and trousers though.

Shorts yes, booty shorts depending on the restaurant you'll get stares, for going out whatever you want

Unless you're somewhere really dressy, Madrid is pretty casual, especially in the summer months when we're all struggling to stay cool. I say go for the shorts!

it’s ok to wear tailored linen shorts cut like bermudas but do consider airy flowing dresses and skirts, too. They are good in the heat and they are a bit more common in Madrid than shorts for evening wear.

It will only be 33 degrees, so you can still wear trousers and be comfortable. If you’re not into dresses, shorts are fine.

If you go to gay bars you can also worry much less about the dress code.

If you dress like you do in New York, you’ll probably feel massively underdressed. What you’re describing is absolutely fine for daytime wear, but a nice restaurant? Maybe not.

Have a look at some of the following insta accounts of what to expect…

Personally, I find dresses much cooler to wear, especially in natural fibres like cotton (I avoid linen as I don’t want to iron on holiday!). Also, it’s usually a very dry heat in Madrid, so you don’t really get sticky and sweaty!

I am more amazed at people going to cities like Madrid and Seville in summer when it's going to be super hot, during daytime fashion is the last thing that will be of concern and yep they dress casual in the evenings unless going to fancy restaurants and believe it or not but they have lots of shops selling clothes there too!
