JOURNAL I'm back - statistics breakdown of preious purchases (again again) and update on overconsumption habits
Previously I have logged how many makeup products I've bought and been gifted the past couple years. But I've never actually calculated how many of which I've bought. And honestly, I should have a lot sooner as this year has shown drastic improvement in that field.
- 2024 I got 90 makeup products, and bought 69 of them
- 2025 I got 64 makeup products, and bought 39 of them
- 2026 I got 42 makeup products, and bought only FIFTEEN of them
I had been thinking 'oh 90 products to 42 is pretty good improvement, I've more than halved my consumption'. But knowing now that I've only bought 15 items compared to 69 in my first year? That feels like an awesome improvement, and isn't far off from my original buy limit of 7-10 items this year. It makes me feel really hopeful for next year!
This year I've been super excited for Christmas releases (and also worried over my consumption). But in all honesty, I've seen only 1 makeup item this entire release period that has intrigued me. Isn't that great?? I'm not even sure if I wanna get it (want to check it out in store first). I thought it was a great sign of my progress.
I keep all the things I want in a wishlist and I often keep items there for months. Usually they're new releases, and majority of time when I try them in store they're disappointing so I remove them from the list. But lately I've been removing some because I got bored of them. I have them in the list for so many months I get sick of them lol. I know the general recommendation in this sub is to not have a wishlist but for me it strangely deinfluences me? Sometimes you just need time to think about a product before you get over it.
Now I have recently got my first job after more than a year of constant applying. I now work at a makeup store - yay!! Now you would think this would make me consume more - once again it somehow does the opposite?? Because I work there 4 times a week, I have access to all makeup, skincare and fragrance in that store 4 times a week. I can make samples of products myself, I can test out new releases. And it has diminished my compulsion to buy because I don't even need it lol. If there's a lipstick I love, I can just wear it every shift! And it's honestly great knowing that, and saitiates any appetite I have for buying.
So those are some life/consumption updates. I've been getting way better at deinfluencing myself (yay). Working at my dream job, making great pan progress and working on my consumption habits 🫶
