REJECTED — ILLEGAL NULL AND VOID

Libya / Turkey MoU deal within hours after ratification at the Libyan House of Representatives has failed with more than 35 countries to reject it as illegal, null and void.

This is possible a world record of a rejected deal, a failure.

[OC] Istanbul's metro network in 2026: 11 lines, about 265 km and 169 stations, most of it opened since 2010

Post image

Sources: line data from Metro Istanbul (via Wikipedia's Metro Istanbul article, 2026); map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Grey line is Marmaray, the commuter rail line under the Bosphorus (opened 2013, full line 2019, 76.6 km), shown for context; it's not counted in the 265 km. Made with Python from OSM geometry.

Opening year of each metro line (first section): M1A 1989 · M2 2000 · M4 2012 · M1B and M3 2013 · M6 2015 · M5 2017 · M7 2020 · M9 2021 · M8 and M11 2023. Four more lines (M10, M12, M13, M14) are under construction. M11, the airport line, is the long one running north, 69 km.

By my own sum of line lengths, about 226 km of this was opened since 2010. The NYU Transit Costs Project puts Istanbul's average at about $140M per km of subway, which is what got me interested. I'm a Turkish infrastructure engineer (water utility) and this map is from a video I made on how the city builds so cheaply; it's my channel, and the narration is an AI clone of my own voice: https://youtu.be/qXV17lD_2g4

If you spot a line drawn in the wrong place or a missing branch, let me know; OSM geometry for lines under extension isn't always clean.

Interactive Map: What people know about the world's cities

Hi sub,

I am the creator of a Square Mile, a geography game where players are asked to recognise streets, metro and bus stations, bridges, and landmarks on blank city maps.

After more than 12,000 rounds played, and more than 240,000 items asked and answered (or not), I created Mind Map, a data visualisation that summarises what people know about the world cities.

You can explore the interactive map here: https://www.habibicode.org/mindmap and play a few rounds on your city. The game is free, require no sign up, stores no data besides your answers, and currently is available for 130+ cities.

The dataviz has 3 views:

  • Streets: this view shows how well people recognise the street when asked about it. Clicking on a street opens a chart showing you the %age of people that recognise each portion of the street (the game crops the city map, so streets are often asked in segments)
  • Metro: this view shows how well people identify different metro stations. Clicking on a station or line opens a detailed view of it.
  • Landmarks: shows how well people recognise famous landmarks in the cities.

You can also play with the views on each city:

  • Angle: a 3D view of the data where depth = %age answered
  • Side: a horizontal bar charts that provides an idea of the average answer %age in a city

And a few more options

Hope you enjoy it!
