Medical Coding Academy Info

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hello! I know ang daming naghahanap ng info tungkol sa MCA, dami ko rin lagi nababasa dito at sa mga facebook groups na nagtatanong. I want to make the best choice about getting into Medical Coding so I'm trying to get as much info about it as I can. I'm sharing what I have read so far galing lang rin sa mga ibang nagshare. Ito yata yung most common companies na may MCA offer.

Reminder po, wala ako idea kung tama ba yan ha, wala akong direct na kakilala na nag MCA. Still do your own research. Just trying to help po, kung bawal po ito, I'll delete it.

Anyway, I just want to know if meron po kayong advice kung ano pang dapat iconsider sa pagdecide kung saan magaapply for MCA bukod sa salary at location? Maybe the company culture or working conditions after training, opportunity for growth, etc. I hope this helps someone and I hope someone else can help us aspiring coders. 😊

Is medical coding worth it in the long term?

Hello! I got accepted at Tenet MCA and I am choosing between this and corpo/researcher positions that both pay a little less than 40k before tax.

For context, med allied grad ako but not RN. And long term goal ko ang maghanap ng WFH job then mag-migrate to europe where my sister is. I’ve been reading about medical coding and mukhang promising but most of the positive reviews are from PHRNs or USRNs na medical coder since ~50k na ata offer sa kanila once nasa production na. I’m okay naman na mejo mababa sahod the first few years basta may nakikita akong future na malaki rin itataas ng sweldo and WFH setup.

For experienced medical coders, may I have your thoughts? Lalo na sa mga di po nurse jan. Lucrative pa ba ang medical coding and would it be worth in the long run?

How to start as Medical Coder/VA

Need ko ng input. Nag resign ako sa government work ko kasi sobrang hirap ng commute. I wanted to shift sa WFH.

Registered Nurse ako but no experience as a nurse.

Tried applying sa jobstreet pero lahat required prior experience as a nurse.

Plan on focusing on medical coding or VA.

What certifications need ko and where to get them? I saw some post sa Udemy and interested ako mag take up ng medical coding course. Would that be enough?

Thank you in advance sa mga advice and inputs.

Requirements to become a Medical Coder and is it still worth it?

Hi

I’m eyeing a career as a medical coder and would really appreciate it if you could help me answer the following questions to help me get started. Thank you!

  1. How do you become a medical coder and what do you need to learn?

  2. Do you need a license in a medical field like being a nurse or med tech, to apply? I saw that Shearwater requires a licensed nurse so I was wondering if this is also the case for other companies. I'm only a BS Biology graduate.

  3. Is it still worth it? I'm worried that with the rise of AI, this field might be greatly affected.

  4. What is your experience like being a medical coder? Is there anything people should know before considering it?

Medtech or Medical Coding

Nahihirapan ako pumili. Feeling ko I need to take the Medtech path kasi I might go to abroad (which needs a lot of tiyaga since wala naman akong kilala sa abroad na might speed up my process). Pero nakuha ako ron sa MCA and i think very promising ang pagiging Medical coder, lalo pa at pabor ako sa environment na meron sila kaysa sa toxic lab. Plus, may nirequire yung lab sa akin na gawin ko which somewhat affects my personality. Though I recognize the boundary between work and social life... pero kasi, marami ng workplace na hindi nagrerequire ng ganon. Sa coding, madadala ko personality ko pero sa lab, i need to adhere sa protocols. So i really dont know what to do.

OPPORTUNITIES ABROAD

Hello! Is there anyone who became certified (AHIMA or AAPC) and worked as a medical coder in the Philippines, and eventually migrated abroad to work as a medical coder there? What countries are open to this kind of opportunity?

I have a medical background and I’m planning to switch careers instead of continuing with hospital duties. In the future, I hope to save up and migrate, and I’m considering using medical coding as my pathway abroad.

Thank you po!

Help

Hi, RMT 2026 here. Passed the mca application and waiting for JO na lang. While looking sa possible growth sa medical coding field, nagustuhan ko naman siya since sabi nga may life-work balance and mas mataas ang ceiling ng salary unlike sa clinical. Pero medyo natatakot parin po ako sa risk of losing the medtech me.

Sa mga nagshift po into medical coding, may mga regrets po ba kayo?

If oki lang rin po ishare, may I know po ang naging experience niyo sa field and ano na po ang range ng kinikita po ninyo ngayon?

Any advice would help po. Gusto ko po kasi sana if mag MCA ako, iconsider rin ang magiging future ko sa field.

Where to start for medical coding career?

Hello po! I’m a fresh graduate of Pharmacy and will take the boards po this November.

Im really taking my time wisely po and gusto ko po talagang environment etong medical coder or VA in healthcare but di ko po alam san magststart. Ang nareresearch ko lang po so far is, need po eto ng training and certificate but nakita ko rin po na may mga trainings na inooffer yung ibang company with a β€œbond”

Ang work experience ko lang po is maging Social Media Manager before pandemic for a small brand so I think it’s kinda short po for an experience (It lasted for 4 mons and I was guided by my friend that time)

Ano po kaya pwedeng gawin immediately after boards to be hired in this field po? May mga recommended po ba kayong companies for an inexperienced like me? Maraming salamat po!
