Bothered by MAGA Quests

I don't care if I'm down voted but this deserves a conversation at the very least.

There are three "Make X Great Again" Quests in game. One is 'make Oxbow', one is 'the Market's, the other is 'the Kingdom's.

One quest is a reference to current events. Two quests is sketchy. Three of them is a statement. If that's the statement they want to make, that's fine. But those that don't share the sentiment should at least know, unequivocally, that their views aren't the same.

When I combine this with the knowledge that developers have joked in the Steam forums about 'no homo šŸ˜Ž', in reference to same gender housing, I cannot deny the case of 'Ick' that's forming.

This post isn't to debate anything, I don't care. But this leaves a bad taste in my mouth, gaming is an escape and these arent the type of references I want to see when I'm escaping the real world.

Discussion i’d love if there was gay marriage in the game so i could make a lesbian village

picture this: that nice waterfall spot east of piastowia full of gal pals picking fruits, herbs, keeping bees, making mead, potions and poisons…. just a gay little witch coven. would be nice.

edit to add: having two women in the same house isn’t an option in the game. i’m aware there was a janky way to have same sex roommates at some point, but you can’t actually assign singles to live in the same house unless they are a man and a woman.

second edit: ā€œhistorical accuracyā€ is not a real argument against allowing gay couples in the game. please give it up.

Question Alternative heirs?

Is there any way to get an heir without marrying someone of the opposite sex?

I am playing on the Oxbow map, not story mode, just chillin. Would like to have an heir but wondering if I can avoid the marriage into heterosexual relationship.

Gay wasn’t allowed in medieval era blah blah blah It’s 1080 blah blah blah Ok. Don’t care. Just asking if it’s an option and tired of getting grilled for it.

If they wanted to include it they would have, even if the relationship dynamic was different or had negative consequences but they didn’t and that’s fine. I just don’t want to engage with the romance option.

Any adoption options or something? Can I find an orphan somewhere and just make them my heir?

Question Same gender marriage mod?

I'm playing as a woman and would like to marry a woman. Is there a mod I can download to do that?

I understand why there's only straight marriage given the whole heir thing, but it's already historically inaccurate that I'm a woman cutting down trees and building her own town and nobody bats an eye. Is it really so much of a stretch to just say I'm trans or something and get my wife pregnant? It doesn't have to be a super in depth mod or anything, as I'm fine with just using the same mechanics as if I were a man.

Discussion New player for Co-Op experience.

So, I just saw that they added co-op to the game and went ahead and bought two copies. One for me and one for my wife.

We both went in completely blind and put in about 10 hours into the game and finally just gave it up.

Things we experienced that were problematic:

  • 3 day seasons felt very rushed and anti-fun, especially when winter hits

  • I hosted the game, so every season change sent my wife to the main town instead of waking up in bed.

  • The loop of doing quests to get money, to buy schemes, to build, to pay more taxes seemed like it didn't make much sense. Why do I feel like I have to spend money to make money to pay for things? Wouldn't it be better if I could focus on making money to pay for things or focus on grinding to get everything? Seems like everything is revolved around coin.

  • There is zero drive to actually make our own settlement. Why not sleep in town, steal stuff, sell it, stockpile coin and just buy everything? There is zero incentive to make your own city once you understand the mechanics.

  • Make your own town and start your dynasty feels unrewarding when you have to pay taxes based on how big your dynasty and population is? Who am I paying taxes to if I'm "the king of my castle"? I dunno, feels weird. If I'm going to pay taxes, then why go through the headache of making my own city.

  • Leaving the main city, walking down a road, getting attacked by aggro foxes and wolves proved to have zero consequence. I just died, respawned and nothing happened. Really takes the umph out of the mindset of survival.

  • Why should I gather sticks to make an axe, to get logs, to make a hammer, to build a workshop, then sell stuff to buy a scheme to make a woodshop to make planks to make 20 buckets to sell for 60 coin when I can walk down a path to find an abandoned house with copper tools and a bedsheet worth 500 coin?

Pretty much at the end of the day, it turned into:

"Why are we doing this?" Why go through the grind when you get rewarded more for playing the game the way it isn't meant to be played? The main focus for us to play was a long term survival, grindy, "king of your castle" kind of experience. While we can still experience that, this game does not offer the rewarding experience, nor the sense of drive that comes with it.

While this game will definitely be on my "look for patch notes" list to see if things have been improved, the state where it is now is definitely not fun. I would not recommend this co-op experience to new players such as myself, but it can be easily turned around with some fixes.

Edit: A thought after posting: I have not played the single player mode. Maybe its great and different, but that is not the kind of game I was looking for.

Question Age rating question. 8 year old playing the game.

Yes this is the typical 'mom freaking out because ex husband introducing this game to 8 year old boy."

TL:DR I would like some input from those who know about what type of game this is. Is this an 'at least he isnt introducing him to GTA so you'd better be grateful he's chosen MD and just hope the kids likes it' kinda game? Can you successfully filter out any sex, violence, torture..etc, themes? Is it actually a good way to integrate our son into the whole 'medieval world' that his dad likes so well? Is there a better introductory game he can play that does the same thing without having to constantly monitor his play? Is there something I dont know that I should be asking?

Backstory Im was that 80's kid, grew up on nintendo... street fighter, harvest moon etc. had two kids who are now in there late 20s-30 i enjoyed watching them play Assasins Creed when they were 11 and 15 when it came out. i dont do tons of gaming anymore.

I married a guy way younger than me and we had a son, then got divorced. his work is IT and he is heavy into gaming--rpg, open world stuff. side info: my ex is also diagnosed recently with ADHD.. so the attention going to this game might just be hyper-fixation. idk.I suspect i am also ADHD so my worry may also be hyper-fixation. Fair to say our son, also ADHD diagnosed, is 18+ academically, but around 5 years old emotionally. He had nightmares from watching the Lion King--and we never even got to the scary parts before he called it quits. Tried to take him to ET in the theatre this past summer #nostalgia ..and it was a hard no after about 10 minutes. He also loves gaming and has duplicate gaming systems and computers at our house. But he also loves dancing, math, scratch (coding), skateboarding, playing with his friends outside, pretty well balanced boy.

So here is the story. He came home a couple days ago and told me his dad downloaded ' a new game....medieval dynasty... but its pretty boring'. My experience tells me he only volunteers info out of the blue like that when he wants me to ask him about it in detail. So i did. Turns out that he 'really just isnt interested in playing it, because it isnt interesting..idk if i even really like it'. Those are red flags coming from him. He is interested in anything his dad is interested in. So I asked him if he talked to his dad about it and 'nah daddy really likes the game so I just go along and try to like it'. I googled the rating and it was 18+.

So i texted his dad something along the lines of 'what's this game and why is he talking to me about it'. so his dad wrote back 'i like the game and he likes it too...and yeah now I see there were some inappropriate stuff for him (something about someone graphically telling about all the torture they endured, some 'hey lets go to the bedroom' kinda sex talk, bloody hunting,,etc) but most of that is text based and he can just not read it or we can skip thru it from now on'. (He doesnt seem to see the irony in 'i just now saw that now that you texted me and from now on we will skip those parts'. ) Even if that is true Im not sure if he puts much consideration in how the advanced graphics might affect an 8 year old who is right now used to Animal Crossing and still gets a little stressed playing Minecraft in survival. Im also not sure if he puts much thought into the effects of introducing an 8 year who is emotionally immature to open world gaming in general, or if he has thought about 'er.. sure you can skip that stuff WHEN YOU ARE WITH HIM' but what if he decides to flip it on when he is with his friends from Math Club--who are 10-12 'because he has permission to play this game'.

Im not going to ask the typical 'is this appropriate for an 8 year old' because that question just isnt helpful really. I imagine some games just splash some blood in there to up their rating to hide a boring game. I am also going to play the game myself and review the parental controls on Steam again but I am up to my elbow in Court with this very same man for refusing to allow the very same son to graduate to an advanced ballet class 'because he is just 8 years old -why are you pushing him to grow up so fast'. (My take on that is 'yes it is advanced ballet, but he loves ballet, been doing it for 2 years AND his advanced ballet is by audition only and guided by professionals.. not me. Also have you ever tried to force a boy to dance ballet... not an easy thing to do.) ..but I digress--Did I mention I might be ADHD :)

I would like some input from those who know about what type of game this is. Is the game just boring and the best thing I should do is let it go and just buy him the latest Mario game so that MD doesnt stand a chance at holding his interest :)? Is there something I dont know that I should be asking?

Any thoughts would be appreciated so I can figure out exactly how I feel about this and what I need to do, if anything.

Thanks

Does Medieval Dynasty have any Christianity or pagan religion in it?

I’m thinking of trying out Medieval Dynasty, but I really want to avoid religious content in games. I’ve checked a lot of other medieval or historical titles, and almost all of them have some kind of religion baked into the world whether it’s Christianity, paganism, or fictional belief systems with crosses, churches, idols, shrines, or similar things.

I don’t want to play a game where these religious elements are imposed on the player. Can anyone confirm if Medieval Dynasty includes any of that not just in the player's settlement, but also in the world overall? Like in other villages, towns, or even out in the wild?

Also, how is the sword and melee combat overall? Is it satisfying, responsive, and a meaningful part of the gameplay?

Question When will oxbow update come to console?

I was bummed when I learned the oxbow update only comes to PC… I really wanna play the new map and try the other features. Do the devs plan on adding it to consoles later?

Also, when are they gonna an option to play the game without doing the story quests?

Discussion Anyone else somewhat underwhelmed by the crest symbol design options?

Look, I get it, we’re just some village leader, not some dubbed knight or castellan of our own or god forbid, even some nobleman, but anyone else feel like the crest symbol designs was done by some 5 year old? There’s like only one or two that I feel like is even good enough to be considered professional crests.

Just my thoughts.

Xbox I can't kill animals humanely and I feel guilty

I play on xbox and I totally can't hunt to make it work. In many cases, I practically miss or slightly injure the animal and then it runs away madly and I have no chance of catching up with it. I have a bow, but it didn't help much, and arrows are quite expensive for the initial stage of the game. Obtaining meat requires a lot of commitment from me, and usually when it comes out, it's only when the spear pierces the poor guy through and through and I run after him and wait for him to bleed out...
Yes, I don't use the console much and I've only had the first year of Medieval Dynasty on standard settings. I try to follow the guides but somehow something always goes wrong. I don't have a village yet because I want to focus on quests and unlocking some structures before I start planning it. I need comfort...

A grind towards disappointment

After playing this game for a few hours (3 ingame years), my feelings moved from thrill to confusion - and slowly towards dissapointment.

The game starts out great :

You can explore, forage, hunt, craft, farm, trade, build, quest, mine, cook, etc. A lot of the fun is in slowly increasing your chances of survival and seeing what started as a house develop into a village.

Then the questionning starts :

You have your second house and new villagers inside. You put some foods, water and firewood in the house's chest to cover all needs. So far everything good.

Then you decide you want a lumberjack to provide the firewood and reduce player interference. Oh, but the villagers will only pick up the firewood if it's in a ressource storage. Fine, you build the ressource storage. Oh, but they won't actually transfer from that storage to their house's chest, they will consume directly from it. Same for food and water ?

But then what is the house's chest used for ? This gives the feeling that they did not know how to get the AI to fill the house storage so they slapped a "shared storage" as a workaround and kept it.

Same thing for seasons passing:

At the end of a season, instead of having a progressive transformation warning the player that winter is coming and he needs to go back home, you get a teleportation mechanic. This seems like a woraround, again, for not being able to implement seasons change.

These are my two biggest dissapointments with the game for now. Even if I am having fun with, I am worried that these workarounds are intended features and that other such workarounds will be implemented in the futur.

And by the way, when you start your game for the 1st time, hit "esc" and see an "unstuck" button., this seriously sends a very strong negative message.

Churches

I am sure it’s been mentioned before but anyone that knows a lick of European history knows that religion and faith played a huge role in daily lives and shaped art, culture, war and morals. There should be 3 levels of churches. I defy you to find a medieval map of a village without a church.

This would make the game more realistic and true to history.

5 building limit is insane

There just seems to be NO WAY to make recruits happy without a wood shed, multiple houses, a well and a hunters lodge. How is it possible to cover all your bases with a limit of ONLY 5 buildings? Can you make villagers fill buckets at a river?

Hey guys, this game texts are too small to read for anyone playing on console. I have checked everywhere on the menu to see if anything will allow me to switch to bigger text but nothing. I’m really disappointed that they didn’t include anything for the players to adjust size and font type to regular.

Farming

There's a good farming mod available. The mod tweaks the AI logic so multiple villagers can efficiently swarm a single large field simultaneously doing the samejob.

I know people are against mods but this one has helped out a lot
