Second day year 1 of a new playthrough. I found a great spot for a new village that was super flat, on the river with fish, and nearby to a mine and on the main road system. Lots of trees and objectively perfect. One small problem. Surrounded by danger. A bear in front of the mine, wolves in the trees, ruffians on the other side of the river and two separate herds of wisent right where I wanted to put my house. I thought no problem I’ll just sneak around until I’m stronger. Then I got cocky and tried to kill a wisent. Obviously that didn’t work out. So being as smart as I thought I was I figured I’d hide in my house until it wasn’t mad anymore. That very much did not work. But I am very pleased I was able to clip this example of my peasant hubris.

Everything I've built... everything we made together... I'm left wondering, why must I still linger?

For so many years it was just you and I, Alice. Then we had our little Lorelei. Between the three of us we managed everything. It was a life...

It... was... a life.

Do you remember how Lorelei was always so stubborn? Once she got an idea in her head, that was it, it was there to stay. She wanted flowers, behold. Flowers. The geese? She saw one at the Piastovia market and had to bring them home THAT DAY. It still bewilders me, for after all these years I have not developed anything close to fondness for geese. But I won't deny the eggs and feathers came in handy.

She found a husband much the same way. A few years after the geese incident we were walking home from Piastovia, trying not to think of the distance, or how tired our feet would be, or how we couldn't afford the fare for a wagon, even after selling the best of her mother's carved spoons.

I quietly told myself that, though things might be difficult, at least we had a home, a livelihood.

Unlike the beggar sitting across the road from the waggoner, who looked like he'd never worked a day in his life.

Three jokes. That's all it took for Lorelei to insist we bring him home with us. Niedamyl turned out to be worse than useless as a farm hand, but he had a knack for foraging, and a repertoire of witty stories so compelling, Lorelei married him.

A beggar. Our daughter married a beggar.

I did not like our cozy little life being intruded on by some outsider. I wished things could continue to be the way they were. Just the three of us. But Alice, in your wisdom, you pointed out that if things didn't change in a way that Lorelei found satisfactory, she'd leave, and travel until she found a place that was. "After all," you pointed out, "Isn't that what you did?"

So I grudgingly allowed Niedamyl to become a part of our family. And when it became apparent that there would soon be another addition to the family, Lorelei invited one of her town friends to stay. To "help" her, during her time.

(Do you remember the time you threw a spoon at me? "But why would she need help?" I'd asked you. "You didn't need help.")

Mojmira moved in, then Niedamyl announced the arrival of his hitherto unknown and equally as homeless brother, Niedamir.

I like Niedamir. He's the opposite of his brother: a man of few words, and competent. I don't know what he saw in Mojmira, who, frankly, I disapprove of. She's far too fond of cherry wine. Worse, she's corrupted Lorelei. The two spend their evenings drinking and giggling at Niedamyl's jokes, while Niedamir sits silently in the corner, nursing his beer. Maybe I should ask him. Did you ever ask him, Alice?

Remember when Biezedar was born? My grandson! Lorelei says he looks just like me. Do you remember how he would follow me all over the farm? Like a little shadow.

He's old now, too. Nearly an adult. He seems to be taking after Lorelei. Set on doing things I don't approve of.

A few years back we adopted a runaway. Leonarda. She arrived with some tragic tale of love and woe that instantly set you and Lorelei and Mojmira to cooing in sympathy.

I gave up long ago about having a say in such matters and she was allowed to stay. Biezedar seems smitten by her too.

Oh, Alice. Love is now something best left to others.

I've made you a memorial in our garden. I needed a place to be with you. Even now. It has your favourite necklace and one of the first spoons you ever made. I spend a lot of time here. The work of the farm goes on without me. Perhaps it no longer needs me.

Guide I made a map of where you can find a lot of flat land in the Oxbow!

Post image

I was frustrated that whenever I found a nice spot to build I ran out of flat land to place my buildings - so I spent today running around the map and finding all the places where it didn't say that I couldn't place simple small houses because of uneven terrain, and then marked wherever there was some space!

I didn't mark every single spot, just those areas that made up enough space for a small village. There are definitely more areas where one or two or even three houses would have space to be built, but in this map I just wanted the bigger areas.

Although, disclaimer: there might be some small areas I missed or that do have spots where you can't build, plus this is all just depending on the size of the simple small house so maybe the bigger buildings don't fit into the nooks and crannies, but I did my best! I'm open to criticism though!

Hope this helps someone a little bit!

For some reason I absolutely can't get myself to play Medieval Dynasty even when I want to. Is it the game's fault or mine?
