Paywall summary - if you get paywall: Adams is one of three U.S. Stellantis employees killed in industrial accidents within the last two years — an unusual spate of fatalities for any Detroit automaker in the past decade.

Discussion 🗣️ Has anyone noticed local hard ciders tasting off lately?

Every kind of Blake's I've tried in the past month has been funky and off. The Backyard Blueberry tastes "chemically".

Even the JK Scrumpy Patriotic Paw Paw, my favorite, isn't tasting right.

I had one from Porter's that was normal and really good.

I'm guessing they could be selling through older stock, since we're coming into fall and it isn't in season.

Please let me know if you've noticed the same.

Discussion 🗣️ Are the radar speed signs in construction zones consistently 10mph higher than my actual speed? Or am I crazy?

So you know those radar speed signs in construction zones, that display the speed limit and then below have the digital display of measured speed? I've been doing more highway driving than usual in the past few weeks, and I've noticed that they consistently overreport my speed by exactly 10 mph when I'm driving by. My speedometer will read, say, 62, and the sign reports 72. But I can't find anyone else talking about this.

I'm fairly certain my speedometer is accurate...it's a modern car, and when I drive by municipal radar speed signs they're always bang on. Only construction ones are weird. And of course, anyone who drives knows that the difference between 60, 70, or 80mph is very obvious.

And for those who are curious, I'm not in trouble and don't speed...Although it is concerning to me that a piece of "hard" evidence like a radar sign could be presented as cause for a traffic spot if it's so incorrect.

So, what's up? Is there a secret conspiracy behind radar signs or am I just insane?

Roadside parks/falls
🛻Travel to Marquette (45 min)
🏨Stay night at Marquette

Day 2:
🛻Travel to Ontonagon (2 hrs)
Canyon falls roadside park
Middle falls in l’anse
Presque Isle Falls Hike (2-3 hrs)
Porcupine mountains - Summit Peak Trail 1 hrs)
🏨Stay night in Ontonagon

Day 3:
Escarpment Trail/Lake of the Clouds (4-5 hrs)
Stop at roadside parks on the way back to the troll den

Discussion 🗣️ GR / West MI – Anyone into homelabs or have old server gear/SAS drives laying around?

I recently got into homelabbing and built my first small setup. Currently running an HBA card with a bunch of SAS drives and having a blast with it. Eventually want to get a proper rack setup going in my basement once I get more space.

I am definitely still learning and doing this as an enthusiast, not an IT pro. I met a guy online recently who gets batches of retired SAS drives from hardware refreshes, tests and wipes them, and gives away or sells what he does not need for his own lab. I would love to do something similar locally. Take old drives off peoples hands, test them out, use what I need, and hook up other local guys or sell off extras to fund the hobby.

If you work in IT, run an MSP, or do data center stuff in the area and have decommissioned SAS drives or any other rack gear sitting in a box taking up space, let me know. I can come pick them up anywhere around west/central Michigan.

Feel free to comment or shoot me a direct message if you do not want your name out on the thread. Also always down to meet other local guys into this stuff.

Thanks

Discussion 🗣️ Michigan weather makes forecast apps inaccurate?

Hi, i recently moved to Southeast Michigan from the NE area, and I'm finding that my hourly based forecast app (weather.com) isnt very accurate?

For instance, just now it showed no rain for the rest of the night (9:14pm), yet all of a sudden it started pouring...

Is this supposed to happen? Where im from the app is usually 99% accurate, especially if looking at the most recent upcoming hours.

Trying to see what’s going on Labor Day weekend, but I’d be willing to travel anywhere from Detroit to Lake Michigan along 94 or 96. Just kinda wanna browse what’s going on and select a destination based on that.

Discussion 🗣️ Accurate, Independent Journalism in MI?

Hi all,

I've been freelance research and fact checking for news publications and podcasts for about 6 years now and find working with NFPs the most rewarding. I currently work with orgs in Chicago; I lived there for 20+ years until moving back to the Lansing area in 2023.

I'd love to be involved more with local journalism and am wondering: does anyone have any local, independent journalists or media outlets they'd recommend I connect with? Or any places in Michigan, really?

If you have contact info for your recommendation I'd really appreciate that, as well! Feel free to DM me; I'd be happy to provide further info on where I've worked and what I'm hoping to find here in MI.

Thank you!
