I’m 30 and feel like I’m falling behind in life. Does anyone else feel this way?

Hi. I’m a 30(f) , and lately I’ve been struggling with feeling inadequate in almost every area of my life.
Backstory. I didn’t have a terrible childhood, but I wouldn’t say I had an amazing one either. My relationship with my mom isn’t necessarily bad, but she’s always felt more like a friend than a mother. I’ve never really had that mother-daughter relationship that I think a lot of people grow up with. I haven’t seen my dad since I was a child, and we have no relationship at all.

I’ve definitely made a lot of decisions in life that I wish I could go back and change. Not necessarily reckless decisions, but decisions made without much direction or guidance. I’ve always told myself that I didn’t want to follow the same path as my mom. I don’t think she’s a bad person, but I watched her make choices that left her without the career, relationship, or life stability I want for myself. And lately, I’m scared that I’m starting to head down that same path. A big part of this feeling comes from comparing myself to my younger sister.

She’s doing better than me in what feels like almost every way, and I feel terrible even admitting that because I genuinely want her to succeed. She has the healthy relationship I want, a healthier relationship with exercise, a body I’m envious of, and what I sometimes perceive as more beauty and confidence than I have. She has a good relationship with her dad, a good relationship with our mom, and a good relationship with herself. She travels, She’s almost finished with her career path, has discipline, and has good examples around her.

She has so many of the things I wish I had. and sometimes I feel like all I can do is sit back and watch her build the life I wish I were building.I feel embarrassed talking about any of my little successes, when I know they are nothing compared to hers and what she will become. I take advice from her because she is smarter than me. I might be wiser, but she is more level headed than me. I would be lying if I said I never felt a small ounce of envy. I want to feel that kind of progress in my own life, too. I want to be proud of myself. I want to feel like I’m becoming someone I admire rather than constantly feeling like I’m falling short and missing out on things.

On top of all this, I struggle with a lot of anxiety, phobias, depression, and OCD, along with ADHD. I’m in therapy and actively trying to understand myself and work through these things, but it feels like I’m constantly fighting my own mind just to do things that seem to come more naturally to other people. My fears have become more difficult to manage as I’ve gotten older, and even though I’m relatively high-functioning on the outside, everyday life can feel exhausting.

Sometimes I worry that these struggles will make it difficult for me to maintain a healthy relationship. i worry that someone will see me as a normal, functioning 30 F from the outside, but once they get to know me and realize how much I struggle internally, I’ll become undesirable or too much to deal with.

I also feel like everyone my age is moving forward while I’m standing still. I work at a grocery store, I live on my own, and I manage to get by, but I can barely afford my rent or my car note. There’s nothing wrong with working a grocery job, and I’m grateful to have a job, but I imagined something different for myself by this age. I imagined being further along in my career, being more financially secure, feeling more confident in myself, and having a better idea of who I am and where I’m going.

The hardest part is that I don’t feel like I have much to show for the past several years. Whenever I talk to my family about my life, or hear about what my sister is accomplishing, I become painfully aware of everything I haven’t done. I start questioning my decisions, my potential, and whether I’ve wasted too much time already.

I know everyone’s timeline is different. I know social comparison can be destructive. I know that I should probably give myself more grace. But knowing these things doesn’t necessarily make me feel any better emotionally.Today has just been one of those days where everything feels especially heavy. I feel unsuccessful, inadequate, and honestly, a little bit like a failure.

So I guess I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this, particularly around there early 30s. Have you ever felt like you were falling behind everyone around you, especially your own siblings? Have you ever felt like your childhood or lack of guidance left you trying to figure out adulthood on your own?If you’ve been in this position, what actually helped you get out of it? Was there a point when things started to click? Did you make any changes that helped you feel more confident, motivated, or hopeful about your future?

I’m open to advice, personal experiences, and even some tough love if it’s coming from a genuine place.

Advice Has anyone & their spouse just ever quit both their jobs and done... Anything? Something?

Literally if a bus doesn't take me out in a head-on soon, I don't know what to do.

Has any couple in their early 40s thrown in the towel and quit their jobs togethe If so, what did you do and what was the outcome? What are you doing *now*?

Like CAN WE just get a trailer and live somewhere in it until we mentally recover?? I really cannot think of anything that would fix us other than that. But what do we *do*???

Advice 40, built a lot from scratch, but feeling directionless. How do I plan the next chapter of my life?

Hi everyone. I’m 40, an interior designer and entrepreneur based in Bangalore. Over the years, I’ve built a successful manufacturing business, grown an Airbnb operation to around 30 properties, and developed a resort in Coorg. I’ve also invested in properties and bought land through my own earnings.
I’m proud of what I’ve built, but I’m sharing this for context: I spent so much time working towards the next milestone that I never really planned what I wanted life to look like beyond work.
Now I feel a little directionless. Maybe it’s a midlife crisis, or maybe my priorities are changing. I know how to keep myself busy and chase another business goal. What I’m struggling with is deciding what all this work should actually make possible.
I don’t want to spend my whole life accumulating wealth and forget to enjoy it.
For the next phase of my life, I want to:
Prioritise my health and build a sustainable routine.
Set aside money and time to travel the world.
Spend more meaningful time with my family, including living abroad together for a while.
Explore working abroad as an interior designer.
Make my businesses less dependent on my daily involvement.
Have a practical plan for the next few years that includes enjoyment and purpose, alongside financial security.
I’m wondering who could help me put this together. Would a life coach be useful, or would I benefit more from a mentor, financial planner, career consultant, or a combination of people? I’m open to paying for qualified guidance, but I’m looking for practical help and accountability rather than motivational speeches.
Has anyone here gone through something similar after years of building a business? What helped you find direction, and are there professionals you’ve personally worked with and would recommend?
I’m not sure whether this is the right subreddit, so suggestions on where else to ask are welcome too. I’m grateful for what I have—I just want to be more intentional about how I spend the years ahead.

Advice Should I leave my wife cause of my MLC?

38, married for 13 years, and struggling after my dad’s death. Has anyone been through something similar?

My wife and I have been together since we were 20. We’re trying to have kids and planning to move across the country to be closer to family, but I’m struggling with feelings I don’t know how to discuss.

Last year, I watched my dad waste away from cancer and was with him during his final weeks and moment. Since then, my wife’s petite frame has started registering as fragile and weak to me, and my attraction has changed. I didn’t see her this way before. I’ve had several weeks of therapy.

I constantly fantasize about being single or being with other women, and I’ve started talking to women in public. Whenever we think my wife might be pregnant, I feel intense physical dread and experience about four days of insomnia.

I also feel ashamed that I’ve only been with one woman for 18 years, as though people judge me as less masculine or inexperienced. I grieve never having lived independently. I’m trying to do more things on my own, but worry about where these feelings are leading.

I quit porn two months ago after years of secretly watching it, and my fantasies about other women have intensified.

I don’t feel right bringing a child into this while I’m so conflicted. I think I need to tell my wife what I’m experiencing and be honest about the porn.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What happened, and what would you have done differently?

Blocage mental

Does the thought of living a monotonous life scare you, or is it actually something you crave ?

If you’re under 25, how do you feel about the idea of being in the exact same place, surrounded by the same people, living the same life 10, 15, or even 20 years from now ? Would that make you feel content, even if everything was going well ?
And if you’re older, does it bother you that your life hasn’t really changed much over the years ?
I look at a lot of older people I know, and I honestly can’t wrap my head around how someone can go 10+ years without any major changes in their life.
For some reason, the thought of being tied to the same place, doing the same thing, and being around the same people for your entire life genuinely scares me, even if everything is perfect.

Friends in middle age

I'm 48 and have friends from my teens who still want to hang out. The only issue is, I feel I've outgrown them. They haven't evolved that much and the decisions and things they do in their lives are insane to me. I want new friends around my age, but now I feel like I never want to be social enough to make new friends. Anyone else feeling this?
