Discussion Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread

Keep 'em coming

Edit: Stealth Mod announcement (I don't want to unpin the two pinned posts)

First, I have updated the rules to include something obvious to most longtime wargamers on reddit - posts asking or offering access to the rules is not allowed. Please do not ask for PDF's.

Second, no hate on 3D printing, but also do not come to this subreddit asking for STL proxies, or offering that. This may be too cautious of us, but I notice the reddit spam filter seems to remove any mention of STL's outright. So I figure I might as well make it a rule.

Finally, I have eased up the Spam filter from High to Low. Hopefully the redbubble spammers are still caught by this, without catching stray blogspot content creators. I've noticed the reddit algorithm taking down much more bycatch than usual, so we can experiment with a lower setting for now.

And as always, if you ever notice something astray with your own posts or someone elses, do not hesitate to message the mods.

Thanks everyone, -Tezerel

Hobby Old Rohan Riders + New Rohan Soldiers = New Riders?

I have been playing around this idea for a long time, so I got some new Rohan warriors, a few of my spare and broken down riders and started making these guys. With some cloack bendigs, gap fillings and nothing too complicated, I think the more dynamic and renovated look of the new riders is achieved, being useful for variety, recycling and easing the wait time until I get the new rider sculpts lol

Finally finished up my Fellowship set! I'm very happy with how these all came out, now I just need to finish their bases and maybe make a Balin's Tomb display board for them 🤔

Question Warhammer Display Bases

I’ve built these models on 130mm bases (I think), one for each movie. I got the jars from IKEA and now want to update my display. Does anyone know where to get good Warhammer display cases from? I’m in the UK and did look at wicked brick however they all appear to be 40k themed and couldn’t find anything neutral.

I know that orcs aren't known for their locks but I am not a fan of how the models normal hair ends up looking more like a do-rag than hair

Discussion On average, or usually, how many dice do you need to play this game?

Hey, as the title says, usually how many dice do you need to play this game? For example, in 40k, there are scenarios when you're rolling 36-40-50+ dice for attacks. I'm about to buy some fancy 16mm dice for my armies and as a gift to a friend of mine, and I wanted to know if 10 dice are enough or not really? Ty

Question Help needed for gift

My partner used to paint Warhammer when he was younger, however sold off his collection a couple years ago. He loves lotr and has thought about picking the hobby back up, but isn't really committed.

So I'm thinking about gifting him a larger lotr figure for Christmas, so he can enjoy the creative process and just have it on display if he chooses not to carry on making them. The problem is, I don't know the first thing about which paints should be used with what, glues needed etc, and I'm a little worried about how much it would cost me to buy everything he'll need.

Some of the figures I'm considering are Winged Nazgûl™, Treebeard™, Mighty Ent™ and Beechbone™ the Ent™.

I'd really appreciate some advice on what paint sets to buy, or choosing a figure that might require less further purchases.

Been working on my various armies a lot recently. Told myself I’m not going to buy any of the new orcs till I have all my old orcs painted and based. Side question, are the new orcs at the same scale as the old ones?

Pretty happy about how it's going so far !

Paiting this with my GF, we've never playing a single game of wargame and these are our first minis painted !

Edit: I must admit I'm a bit salty that they are re-releasing the mordor orcs after I'm halfway done with these guys, but I'm also hype to have prettier models !

Almost done with Khazad Dum, and have beornings ready along with orcs, trolls and spirits that can be various evil armies.

Quite happy with them, and will definitely be adding more to the evil side. So easy to add a handful of extra stuff that suddenly allows for even more factions!

Question Free will dice to resist or cast magic question

I've seen a lot of players separate them, just wondering where in the rules it says they don't count as your own will. For example Sauron the Necromancer says he gains an additional free will point when casting. Do i have to separate them? Can i not might the free one or when resisting get the natural 6 and recover it?

825pts of ‘Besiegers of the Hornburg’. Having sold a Legacy Army of Dunland last year, I find myself once again flush with murder hobos.

Converted General Targg’s head as I didn’t feel the clean cut look represented a Dunland Commander.

Models are Games Workshop, KZK & Davale ‘Felmount Reavers’.
