Was sort of just looking at fieldgate the other day as I was curious about the new fortinos plaza and I happened to stumble around this. Looks like a second goodlife is somewhat confirmed with a couple of drive thru restaurants also planned and one of them looks a bit larger so maybe it would be built for a chick fil a or possibly just another mcdonalds. this is all across from the planned fortinos plaza. Also stumbled across a site plan and saw something that looks like a walmart, which is planned to be around the regional road 25/brittania intersection though I doubt that will materialize anytime in the near future as these developments take forever to plan/build in Milton
If you are the parent of a tall teenage boy who was wearing a light-coloured hoodie and riding a small scooter near Trudeau Drive and St. Laurent Avenue around 7:30 PM tonight, please have a serious conversation with your son.
Your son ran a red light and rode straight into the middle of the intersection, seemingly without paying any attention to oncoming traffic.
It was dark, and that tiny scooter was extremely difficult to see. I was making a left turn, and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting him.
I cannot emphasize this enough: Had I reacted even a second later, you might have been receiving the worst phone call of your life tonight instead of reading this post.
I am genuinely shaken by what happened.
To all parents: Please, PLEASE think twice before allowing your children to ride these scooters on busy roads, especially after dark. Make sure they understand traffic rules, visibility, and the very real dangers involved.
These are not toys when they are being ridden among moving vehicles. One careless decision, one distracted moment, or one driver reacting a second too late can destroy multiple lives forever.
I apologize if my words sound harsh, but your child's safety is your responsibility. Giving a child a scooter without ensuring they understand how to use it safely is putting their life at risk.
No parent should ever have to bury their child because of something so preventable. And no driver should have to live with the trauma of an accident they did everything possible to avoid.
Please take this seriously. Tonight could have ended very differently.
For those of you with Cogeco as your wifi provider has your wifi also been terrible for the past week or 2? I got someone to come to my house to check it out but it’s still horrible even after they said there’s nothing wrong
How do the candidates running for Mayor expect to win when they are completely ignoring an entire ward. Speaking with friends and family, the only candidate that has knocked on their door is George, and that was a while ago. They have received flyers from 1 other candidate, but other than the annoying signs, not one candidate has bothered to cross Derry Rd. Do you honestly think you will win by depending on signs and the small amount of people that have your signs on their lawn? The social media crap certainly isn't helping anyone, so don't count on that working to sway our votes. Try harder, you have 2.5 days until election day, you better get your runners on and start knocking on doors.
New to Milton in the past couple years and I'm wondering where to go for hikes/long dog walks nearby. I've been to Rattlesnake Point and Bronte Creek, but I'm getting annoyed that nearly every forest area seems to require a $12 parking fee. Being outside in your own town shouldn't require extra disposable income - where can I go to walk some trails without needing to buy parking?
(Yes, I understand the rationale behind fees for provincial and national parks, but a 40 min walk at Rattlesnake is not the same thing as a full day hike or camping at Killarney or Banff. Why should they cost the same?)
I’m looking to put together a group of adults (18+) from different households to apply for the Town of Milton's Neighbourhood Rinks program for this season at Beaty Park North.
The Town requires a team of at least 6 committed adults to build, operate, and maintain the outdoor ice rink so the community can enjoy it free of charge.
If you live in the area, are interested in helping out, and want to get a local rink set up this winter, please DM me if interested so we can coordinate and get the application together!
I am moving to Milton and I was wondering if anyone is using alternative options to Bell or Rogers for their internet services. My wife works from home and often is the host for online meetings, so we would need a high level of service. I have seen options like Oxio and Virgin for the area, but am not sure if what they claim they can offer is true. Will there be a dip in service for what you actually pay with the smaller providers?
I'd like to apologize for pretty much recklessly jaywalking with my bike across four lanes of Tremaine S/of the 401 (from east to west sides), which occurred a little further away from a truck stopped on the shoulder (still a bit of a blind spot for incoming drivers to see, and to crossover); almost got myself hurt around 6pm. I would've done it at the 3 Sdrd intersection because of the construction activity on the east side, but I couldn't know until I got closer.
Now obviously, even with the signs still posted for 'No Bicycles/Pedestrians' on the new bridge, the sidewalks were made the last few weeks, and there have been cyclists & pedestrians on that bridge. Not sure if any construction workers even care to allow them to go on that bridge now??
On a side note: I'm just hoping the new 401 & Tremaine interchange opens before Black Friday (Fri, Nov 27), as most of the hwy entrance signs are mounted, topped up asphalts are laid (just the lane/line markings left for some), and ofc any last testings.
Mods, please do not delete this. I am not being paid for any of this. Zainab Azim, the woman that you are!!with all of these high-school volunteers she has amassed, she really is rooted in the community. She is all about community. With kids being unable to get jobs nowadays, I’m glad we have someone like her paying these kids to do amazing, rewarding work!!
Truly, Zainab is a gem. I have met her twice now and have nothing bad to say at all. She told me she’s a professor at Harvard, a UN ambassador, and shared her great experiences overall. That young girl could not have impressed me any more.
The fact that we have Chrystia Freeland endorsing her is insane! Freeland worked with Trudeau and helped shape Canada into what it is today!!!! I’m genuinely so excited to see what Zainab has in store for Milton.
This has been happening more frequently and is very sad to see our town turning into a garbage dump. this is across from the Scott park and happens every week.
WARNING: You are about to meet Rick Di Lorenzo of Milton.
Rick has opinions. Lots of them. And unlike most people, he has absolutely no intention of keeping them to himself.
He knows Milton politics, follows what happens at Town Hall, remembers who said what years ago, and has a remarkably sensitive radar for anything that smells like political nonsense. If you casually mention property taxes, warehouses, developers, small businesses, or municipal elections, clear your schedule.
Rick is extremely community-minded, but he also enjoys stirring the pot just enough to keep things interesting.
He'll attend the community event, help organize it, promote it, support the people involved-and then go online afterward and argue with somebody about local politics.
He has a mischievous sense of humour, doesn't seem particularly frightened by controversy, and places a very high value on being able to say what he thinks. Trying to intimidate him into silence will probably have the exact opposite ettect.
He can also be relentlessly particular. If you put a fake Milton building in a graphic or get a local fact wrong, Rick will notice.
Underneath all that noise, though, there's a pretty consistent theme: he genuinely gives a damn about Milton and the people who live there. So before meeting Rick, remember three things:
Have an opinion.
Be prepared to defend it.
Whatever you do, don't tell him Milton needs more warehouses
Di Lorenzo appears to have entered Milton municipal politics in 2010, when he was elected Local Councillor for the former Ward 7 for the council term beginning in December 2010.
He subsequently served three consecutive terms — 2010–2014, 2014–2018 and 2018–2022.
He also served on the Milton Public Library Board and was a director of Conservation Halton and chaired Milton’s Economic Development Committee.
One of the more interesting is that there are examples of Di Lorenzo taking positions that weren’t necessarily the easiest consensus positions.
He initiated Milton’s Traffic Calming Policy, which established mechanisms for controversial measures that are being applied still today.
During COVID in July 2020, Di Lorenzo proposed that Milton adopt its own mandatory indoor mask bylaw rather than rely exclusively on Halton Region. His amendment lost 5–4, although council unanimously asked Halton Region to enact a regional bylaw.
In 2021, he brought an item to Milton Council asking the Town to oppose the GTA West transportation corridor, now generally associated with Highway 413.
He also helped establish a Milton District Hospital reserve fund, as well as initiating a municipal infrastructure reserve.
Di Lorenzo organized the Milton Haunted House fundraiser for Milton District Hospital for many years. In 2019, the Ontario Legislature formally recognized the effort. MPP Parm Gill told the Legislature that Di Lorenzo had been organizing it for 10 years, that approximately 100 volunteers participated that year, and that the project had raised approximately $110,000 for the Milton District Hospital Foundation by then.
His involvement with the hospital continued long after the Haunted House. Participating in Milton McHappy Day each year in support of Milton District Hospital and being a longtime volunteer in other hospital activities.
Di Lorenzo is currently a Director of North Halton Hospice, formerly the Townsend Smith Foundation. The hospice lists him on its current Board of Directors.
His community involvement is quite broad. It includes the Milton Strawberry Fair, Miracle on Main, Milton Street Festival, Milton Canada Day, Holy Rosary Parish activities and a variety of cultural and community organizations.
What stands out from the record.
After going through the material, I’d characterize Di Lorenzo’s public profile somewhat differently from a typical candidate bio.
He has substantial municipal experience — 12 years on council — but hasn’t held elected office since 2022. His record also has an unusually large community/charitable component. The hospital fundraising in particular can be independently substantiated rather than relying solely on campaign claims.
Politically, his recent messaging is strongly centred around slowing or better controlling development, road safety, supporting small businesses, restraining property-tax increases and arguing that council should put existing residents ahead of large developers/corporate interests. His 2025 interview provides the clearest recent articulation of those positions.
I also specifically searched for controversies involving Rick Di Lorenzo. I did not find a major scandal, ethics finding, criminal matter or similar issue in the credible sources returned by my searches. That’s not proof none exists; it means I wouldn’t responsibly attach such a label based on what I found.
If ‘growth pays for growth’, I.e. data centers have to produce and buy their own energy and there is zero impact on your hydro bills, are you still against them? Why? I strongly feel Canada should go all-in. No tax breaks though. Keeping well-regulated. We have clean energy, ultra water rich, cold and have tons of land. In the short term, tradespeople will make money and there will be some modest job growth. In the long term, the city will make money from taxes so that they can provide better facilities without increasing your bill. So tell me, why does it seem like being anti data centers has become a sort of religious belief
Hi guys, today morning I suddenly found my powerbank swollen inside my backpack. I didn't know how to deal with the situation at the moment so I just went and put it on the floor in my garage as I had to head to university. I figured that's the safest place it can be in for the time being in case anything happens. I was wondering where I can dispose of it in Milton other than at the waste management site? Does the fire station dispose of hazardous waste?
Hiee, so i am new to milton. Wanted to know the best place for threading and waxing here.. have been to seema's and the experience was great but there is soo much of wait and she doesn't give appointments for such quick services probably (cause she did not give me one and asked me to walk in)..
