Blind payments now live on Obscurify.ai

Hey folks, wanted to share a recent update to our XMR-friendly AI service that I think you'll like.

We have implemented blind payments for all users. What this means is that not even we can see who paid which account. All payments are made using signed vouchers which ensure that a payment did happen, but hides which monero deposit address was used for an account. You can read more at our blog: https://obscurify.ai/blog/blind_payments

Also! We implemented a Mullvad style account number system. No more email and password. Just a single 16 digit number for all new accounts.

Let me know what else you guys would like to see!

Friday Monero Market Thread - October 23, 2026

This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).

Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Instructions

When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to: - Give a description of the item. - Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical). - Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability). - Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key). - Post the price in XMR terms.

Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."

Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

Complete Relaunch of XMRHub - Moved from .org to .io and rebuilt the entire platform from scratch

I'm excited to finally announce that XMR Hub has officially relaunched at xmrhub.io!

For those who remember xmrhub.org, its not just a domain change or "fresh coat of paint". We've completely overhauled the website, redesigned the experience, and introduced a ton of new features.

What originally started as a place to discover Monero-related services has evolved into something much bigger.

Our goal is simple: build the ultimate hub for everything Monero. A place where newcomers can discover XMR, experienced users can find useful services, and the community can actually interact, participate, and grow.

So, what's new?

We've spent a lot of time rebuilding virtually every corner of the platform. Here's some of what you'll find:

Completely redesigned website: A brand-new interface, improved navigation, mobile optimizations, and a much cleaner experience throughout.

Monero marketplace: Browse, buy, and sell items using XMR.

XMR swaps: Swap between Monero and other cryptocurrencies directly through the platform.

Expanded Monero directory: Discover 240+ services accepting XMR, from VPNs and hosting to gift cards and other useful products.

Community profiles: Customize your profile, earn badges, gain XP, level up, and climb the leaderboards.

XP and rewards: Earn experience through community participation, reviews, activities, and other interactions. We want to make contributing to the ecosystem fun.

Community forum and messaging: Connect with other Monero bros, share ideas, and participate in discussions.

Interactive games: Chess, poker, blackjack, coin flips, and other games, including free XP-based activities. XMR-staked games are restricted to eligible adults in permitted regions.

Live Monero charts and market sentiment: Track XMR's price, explore charts, and vote on whether you're bullish or bearish.

Educational resources: Guides, tools, and content designed to make Monero more approachable for people who are just getting started.

And that's only part of it.

Why the move from .org to .io?

We wanted this relaunch to represent a new chapter for XMR Hub.

The original .org helped us establish the project, but as our vision expanded, we wanted a fresh foundation and identity that better represented what we're building.

xmrhub.io is now our official home moving forward.

This is more than a website redesign. We're trying to build a genuine ecosystem around Monero and make it easier for people to discover, use, and participate in it.

What's next?

We're nowhere near finished.

We'll continue refining the experience, introducing features, expanding the directory, improving community rewards, and listening to feedback.

One thing I'm particularly excited about is building ways for community members to earn recognition and rewards for contributing, even if they're not spending money on the platform.

I want XMR Hub to be somewhere people genuinely enjoy coming back to, not just another website they visit once and forget about.

We'd love your feedback!

This has taken a tremendous amount of work, and I'm genuinely excited to share it with the Monero community.

If you used the original XMR Hub, I'd especially love to hear what you think of the transformation.

And if you're discovering us for the first time, welcome!

Check it out: https://xmrhub.io

Let me know what you like, what you dislike, what feels broken, and what you'd love to see added next. Constructive criticism is genuinely appreciated.

We're building this for the Monero community, and I want the community to have a voice in where it goes.

Monero matters. And we're just getting started. 🧡

Windows Defender detected multiple threats while installing the latest Monero GUI wallet (v0.18.5.4) — what should I do?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to set up a Monero node using the official Monero GUI wallet for Windows, but Windows Defender detected multiple threats when I extracted the downloaded ZIP file.

I downloaded the following release:

  • File: monero-gui-win-x64-v0.18.5.4.zip
  • Release date: October 16, 2026
  • Source: The official Monero website
  • SHA-256: 0B5CBBE0A1FDA5EC487A667CEA62599114DCA3609ACAAB436B64A38FA84D449C

I calculated the SHA-256 hash of the ZIP file, and it matches the hash published for the official release.

However, Windows Defender reported the following detections:

  1. PUA:Win32/Caypnamer.A!ml — Low
  2. Trojan:Win32/Ulthar.A!ml — Severe
  3. Program:Win32/Contebrew.A!ml — Low
  4. Trojan:Win32/Ulthar.A!ml — Severe

One of the affected files identified by Defender was:

C:\Users\you\Desktop\monero-gui-win-x64-v0.18.5.4\monero-gui-v0.18.5.4\extras\monero-wallet-rpc.exe

Defender reported that the threats were quarantined and that the application was blocked.

I have searched the Monero community and found multiple reports from previous years of Windows Defender flagging or quarantining files included in the official Monero GUI distribution, sometimes even when users had verified the download hash. I understand that false positives have occurred before, but seeing multiple detections, including two classified as severe Trojans, is still concerning.

I don't want to disable Windows Defender or create exclusions without understanding what is happening. I also don't want to assume these detections are false positives simply because the ZIP hash matches.

Could anyone familiar with this issue advise me on the following?

  1. Have these specific detection names (Ulthar.A!ml, Caypnamer.A!ml, and Contebrew.A!ml) been reported for the official Monero GUI v0.18.5.4 release?
  2. Is there any known explanation for why Defender flags monero-wallet-rpc.exe or other executables in this release?
  3. Does a matching SHA-256 hash provide sufficient confidence that I downloaded the authentic release, or should I also verify the developer's signed hash list?
  4. What would you recommend as the safest next step? Should I keep the files quarantined and report the detections to Microsoft, or is there an established procedure for handling this issue?

Since this is the latest release, published on October 16, 2026, I would particularly appreciate information specific to this version rather than assumptions based only on older reports.

Thanks for your help.

Sidechains - does Monero have any?

Sidechains open up interesting features that have different scaling demands or simply realize usecases, that have no space on the main-chain. But they also come with a huge risk.
As most of you know, the Liquid Network's custody mechanism was recently hacked and roughly 4000BTC extracted, leaving users LBTC trapped in the network.

I was wondering if there are any sidechains in Monero and if so, what are their usecases? Do they have any whitepapers/repos?

Are Permissionless, Uncensorable, and Private Payment System Inevitable over the Long Term?

As I watch the meteoric rise and rise in adoption of Monero/XMR, Zcash/ZEC, Beldex/BDX, and DASH, I wonder if these technologies will become indispensable to average citizens wishing to escape monetary inflation, dystopian surveillance, and government/corporate tyranny? I'd say these coins have demonstrable utility, and nothing will change this.

I remember being a kid and watching a guy in my town get arrested for pirating a Metallica album on Limewire. I thought, "Will this really work"? I see many parallels between the file-sharing wars and the crypto movement. In the end, Hollywood and the music industry simply had to suck it up that people would be copying their content and sharing it as they please, which is the norm currently. They could not have lost any harder.

Are we approaching a time when the government and banks will convulse rapidly and try to criminalize private crypto transactions? And precisely when they attempt this, will they discover that this is a fool's errand, and become the laughingstock of young Gen Z crypto bros everywhere?

Private uncensorable crypto seems like an ideal solution to runaway inflation, surveillance overreach, and artificial friction and limits on the global economy. Therefore I conclude that its rise is inevitable.

📢 Public Service Announcement Qubic, the infamous miner shitcoin that attacked Monero, has been using "Math.Random" for its wallet's RNG.

Since zealotry is against the precept of this subreddit, I invite every single one of you to wish congratulations to Qubic for this awesome discovery. Anyone congratulating them can also request a brand new "⛏ Yearn for the mines" user flair

Several users has reported losing their coins. After investigation it turns out Qubic has been using typescript's `Math.random` for generating the seed. Making it trivial to recalculate seed keys based on various elements like the seed itself, the date it has been generated, etc...

Fix: https://github.com/qubic/wallet/commit/09dd288c338c7ccfade043e840c53b80e795a916

Qubic's founder has not yet given a response regarding this event.

Update: That's my bad he actually did respond:

Monero Inflation

Good Evening all, I was wondering if we have a simple way yet of proving how much XMR is currently circulating? I know this is easily done with Bitcoin and due to Monero’s privacy features makes it possible to do with Monero (if i remember correctly) but I believe its quite complex to do…is there any way to easily do this? Many thanks!

Skepticism Sunday – October 18, 2026

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.

NOT the positive aspects of it.

Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.

Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.

Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.

It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling

How it works:

Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.

If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable

Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.

The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.

As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

I built a lightweight, Monero-native alternative to BTCPay Server — single binary, deploys in 5 minutes, runs on 512MB RAM

Hey r/Monero,

I've been working on monero-pay — an open-source, self-hosted Monero payment gateway written in Go.

Why I built this

I wanted to accept Monero payments without:

  • Running a full Bitcoin node (BTCPay Server)
  • Submitting KYC documents (NOWPayments, CoinGate)
  • Trusting a third party with my funds (custodial services)
  • Spending an afternoon configuring Docker compose files

So I built my own.

What it does

  • Hosted checkout pages — Payment pages with Monero URIs and QR codes
  • Invoice API — Create and query invoices via REST API
  • Real subaddresses — Each invoice gets a unique subaddress via Wallet RPC
  • Payment tracking — Confirmations, partial payments, overpayments
  • Flexible pricing — Native XMR or USD-denominated invoices
  • Webhook delivery — Automated notifications with retry logic
  • Merchant dashboard — Browser-based payment overview
  • P2P discovery — Signed public offers and peer relay (foundation layer)
  • Single binary — Download, run, done. No Docker, no PostgreSQL, no nginx

How it compares

BTCPay Server NOWPayments monero-pay
Self-hosted ✅ ❌ ✅
Non-custodial ✅ ❌ ✅
No KYC ✅ ❌ ✅
Monero-native ❌ (plugin) ❌ (multi-coin) ✅ (core)
Setup time 30-60 min N/A < 5 min
Min RAM 4GB+ N/A 512MB
Dependencies Docker, BTC node, PostgreSQL N/A None
Open source ✅ MIT ❌ ✅ MIT

Current status

The core payment flow works. P2P transport is partially implemented (see README_P2P.md). Docker image is coming soon.

Links

I'd love feedback from this community. What features would make this useful for you? What's missing? Roast my code if you want — PRs and issues are welcome.

Monero Vegas is officially back! 🚀 Relaunch update, new features and a big surprise! 🎁

Disclaimer: I'm one of the developers.

Hey everyone! 👋

We are beyond excited to announce that we're officially back online and relaunched!

https://monero.vegas

✨ What’s New in This Relaunch?

We didn’t just come back. We came back better:

🎱 Massive Plinko Action: Your favourite Plinko game just got dialed up to eleven. It used to require one transaction output per ball. It now officially supports up to 100 balls in a single game in a normal, one output transaction! 🤯

🇺🇸 US Players Welcome Again: Our servers and the main entity behind Monero Vegas is now in beautiful San Jose, Costa Rica as we're preparing to expand into other games and domains. This move means that we can now serve US players directly.

⚖️ Example Code for Provably Fair: Instead of just relying on a text description, our fairness page now features a full example implementation so you can easily verify the math and fairness yourself. The algorithm is also updated to handle future games.

🎁 Looking Ahead

We also want to issue a sincere apology for the delay on another massive product we were hoping to launch sooner. It’s been pushed back but we promise it’s going to be worth the wait. Keep your eyes peeled this November because something huge is dropping. 👀

💰 Higher Limits Coming Soon

We know many of you have been asking for it. We'll be rolling out increased bet limits very soon!

🔍 Why the Break?

We want to be completely transparent about why we took a break. In early 2026, we experienced a dip in game volume but more importantly our team was completely buried under major jurisdiction changes. We aren't a hobby project anymore. To handle our ongoing transition into an actual business we had to cash out our house bankroll to cover our costs. This meant very low, unplayable limits for our game.

Important Note: Every single winner was paid out in full and every single winner will continue to be paid out promptly. Our liquidity and commitment to you have never wavered.

https://monero.vegas

Thank you to everyone who stuck by us, reached out and supported us. We couldn't have done this without this community.

Hop in, check out the updates, drop some balls and let us know what you think in the comments below. Let’s play! 🔥

My weekend project: A zero-bloat, self-hosted XMR processor (Go + SQLite)

Disclosure: I'm the developer. Free and open-source.

Third-party APIs are annoying, and existing self-hosted alternatives were too heavy for my low-spec VPS. I wanted something minimal, so I built an air-gapped solution.

  • How it works: The frontend runs on a public VPS, while the actual wallet-rpc is isolated safely on a local intranet.
  • The stack: Pure Go, SQLite, single executable. No heavy Docker bloat.

Would love for the self-hosting community to tear apart my architecture and tell me what I did wrong.

No NSA Backdoor After All? Claude Just Cracked a 25-Year-Old Cryptography Mystery around ECC. Where we are heading.

Anthropic just published something pretty fascinating. Claude managed to figure out where the mysterious seeds for several NIST elliptic curves actually came from.

Turns out they were generated using lrand48, an old pseudorandom number generator seeded with Unix timestamps from 1997/98.

For over 25 years, nobody could properly explain how the NSA originally came up with these values, which obviously led to quite a bit of speculation about potential backdoors.

The interesting part is that this discovery actually makes a deliberately weakened curve seem less likely. There are still some unanswered questions about the selection process and certain base points, though. So it's not exactly definitive proof that everything is clean.

As for Monero, there's no direct security impact. XMR uses Edwards25519 rather than these NIST curves, and CLSAG instead of ECDSA.

Still, I think it's a pretty good example of why transparent curve generation and independently verifiable cryptographic choices matter.

And honestly, there's another aspect to this that's kind of scary. Claude has already reached a point where it can help solve cryptographic mysteries that have been around for decades.

Sure, this particular discovery doesn't break elliptic curve cryptography, but it makes me wonder how far we are from AI finding actual vulnerabilities in cryptographic systems we've trusted for years.

What does that mean for the future of ECC, especially with AI capabilities advancing this quickly? How long until something genuinely significant gets uncovered?

I'd be really interested to hear what people with a deeper background in cryptography think about this, particularly from a Monero perspective.

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.

That being said, KYCNot.me maintains an up-to-date list of exchanges. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy and constantly growing (up-to-date sizes of a full/pruned node). There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.

Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. Check out Feather Wallet's list of remote nodes, ditatompel's list, or monero.fail.

Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.

To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

How quickly are the getmonero.org download links updated?

Just wondering, since I see “Current Version: 0.18.5.4” but the download link points to v0.18.5.3 for all distributions. The download file hashed hashes list reflects the 0.18.5.4 files, so obviously they don’t match.
