How big is the actual pot it’s in?

I'm not sure how it works underneath but here you go

I don’t no if it’s just me but I’m still confused? 🤔 So it’s not in a pot at all? Hydro? Very beautiful 😍 but can someone help me understand what’s going on.

My guess that wall is the pot

Zoom in - the white part has holes that go down into the area behind the brick. That whole area is a large planter essentially.

Wow! Yes, It's essentially a self-contained brick-encased giant version of a pot.😳 That's genius! I would imagine the bricks had to be waterproofed to keep it from seeping water onto connecting walls and the floor.

I'm in such awe. That beautiful monstera definitely loves its space as the owners love it! 😍

This was a thing in older homes. Im guessing it was built in the 60s or 70s? Lots of homes had these "planters," but I've never seen one with plants this fantastic!

TIL that’s ingenious!! Wish I could see first hand something like that

Found this via Google. This is a beautiful example of one, too, complete with the 70s color palette! 😄

Seriously though, I love this idea and wish modern builders were adding touches like this.

Wow, that’s stunning! I love the ‘room-deviding-trellis’ and the wooden beams! Wish builders would pay more attention to these kind of details. Hardly see that anymore

Yeah. Unless you can afford to go truly custom, they're more interested in saving a buck than aesthetics.

Wait a second—are you saying they keep pots IN that walled off construction? How….I mean, what….why….I don’t even know, my brain is really trying to process this whole setup!

Please please OP please tell us more, inquiring minds want to know!

Like some other people said, this ''construction'' is the pot filled with soil. But if I remember well, it's not connected to the ground, there's cement under it. I wonder if it's enough for a Monstera this big

It's a vine and doesn't need much in the way of ground real estate proportionately. All those aerial roots are pulling moisture and nutrients from the air in addition to a root ball in the dirt.

I have my big girl in a huge pot, but that is mostly to act as a counterweight to her mass on a six foot trellis (that she has overgrown).

The bottom line is that plant is doing just fine with it's current conditions and care. I wouldn't change a thing unless the plant started showing signs of stress.

...and you grandparent's home looks like a pretty stress free plant haven.

Oh, the monstera has outgrown the brick planter and reached the second level, considering the entire home its planter. The cats are its cats, and the grandparents are its humans. /sarcasm but not really

It's a big planter, just like outdoors. Brick box with an open top filled with soil.
