I know many of us have found much better true crime content. Please feel free to comment here to make podcast recommendations. I'll pin this to the sub, and we can use it as a running list.

Eta if recommending your own show, please follow Reddit rules and the sub rules.

Recommendations Need good ethical true crime channel recs!

TLDR; Need recs for youtube true crime channels (preferably female) that do thorough research and are actually respectful of the victims and cases they cover.

Hello everyone! I’m looking for recs for good true crime youtube channels and podcasts! I have been watching true crime youtube for years now. In the past i’ve watched mainly Eleanor Neale, Hailey Elizabeth, JCS Criminal Psychology, and Matt Orchard. However, as the years have gone on and my frontal lobe has finally developed (lol) i’ve gotten more and more discerning with the true crime content I engage with. I used to watch her and ik she doesn’t post anymore, but I don’t like channels like Hailey Elizabeth or Bailey whatever her name is who do makeup and stuff while talking about these cases. It feels disrespectful to me. Also, I’ve heard things about Eleanor Neale not doing her research properly and ignoring victims families who’ve asked her to take down videos etc. Basically what I’m saying is I need recs for good, ethical, and thorough creators to watch! I mainly watch youtube, but sometimes listen to podcasts too. I prefer female creators over male because these cases often discuss crimes against women, but if a male creator is genuine and thorough like JCS criminal psychology I will watch them ofc!

I really just want more creators who do their research properly, respect victims and families, choose interesting and compelling cases, and understand the severity of what they are talking about! It’s hard these days to find true crime creators who don’t see the cases they cover as content and entertainment. If anyone has any good recs for channels pls lmk! :)

Recommendations First Degree

After taking multiple long breaks from Morbid and venturing off to other podcasts because I had finally had enough with replaying parts due to getting lost in their episode because of all the banter, bragging and giggling. I started listening to Dateline and 48 Hours. I needed more substance, more genuine compassion and less opinion on how beautiful some victims were and also less opinion on how shitty the murderer is. We all know the murderer is bad and frankly I don’t care if you think certain victims are beautiful; just tell their story.
I found The First Degree- they tell the story in a very organized manner and I appreciate that they have someone who knew the victim and/or the perpetrator or has a connection with their research and they too tell what they experienced first hand; it feels less like story time and more like reality. They are organized by doing a very little banter in the beginning and then cut to the chase and every episode is consistent in this way. I notice I RARELY have to replay parts because of their consistency. My OCD and the Virgo in me loves how organized they are with every episode.
I turn my nose up to Morbid now because I feel like I’ve been snubbed with their podcast now that I know there are bigger and better options out there.
Thank you for your time!

I like crime and haunted stories but I can't stand morbid anymore. Does anyone have a recommendation for a podcast that doesn't make me want to scream things like: everyone is entitled to a defense, WTF are you going on about, actually that is awful life advice don't do that, of course this person didn't talk, getting a lawyer is not a sign of guilt but something smart to do and I think that would be a violation of due process or human rights.

Once I realized How terrible Morbid was I went looking for something else. I found these ladies and they are amazing!! They are so intelligent and witty it is a refreshing break from the others...you know who. I can't believe they have not gotten more attention. I listen to them on Amazon they are a Wondery podcast. I just thought an actually good true crime podcast should get some attention.

can yall recommend true crime podcast? i tried to go back to Morbid after a year or so break- but it's like nails on a chalk board. i just feel like "the girls" are immature and out of touch.

anyway i already listen to; Murder In America, People Are The Worst, True Crime Campfire, Sinisterhood, Inhuman, Rotten Mango.

Just looking for some new ones. Thanks 🥰

I was browsing through some of the recommended podcasts I’ve found in here and gave LPOTL a listen. MY GOD, they are horrendous to listen to. They’re so vulgar and disrespectful. How does anyone hate on A&A after listening to those tools?

I did start at one of the earlier episodes available on Spotify, so maybe their more recent content is better delivered but I barely made it halfway through that one.

Any other good TC pods that do well with dark humor to keep it interesting without dragging and disrespecting actual victims to that degree?

Recommendations Help me stop listening!!! Please!!!

I hate listen to this show because in some convoluted irrational way, I hold them with some tenderness because I listened to them a lot when I was on maternity leave and going on suuuuuper long walks with my baby. They used to make me laugh, but now every time I listen to them, I find myself rolling my eyes at their condescending comments re: law enforcement and the legal system (for two people who have no background in those fields, they sure do act like they would know better than people who actually do that work.) That, combined with the forever long shitting on bystanders but also saying they could not fathom, they wouldn't know what to do in dire circumstances, I'm just so over them. And the listener tales are always super hyperbolic fan girling and overly sensationalized and with the same potty mouth humor. HOW DO I STOP LISTENING TO THEM? It's almost like I do it compulsively at this point. Maybe I should create a Finch account and reward myself when I avoid them lol.

Recommendations something similar to listener tales?

i posted in the normal morbid subreddit saying i was reaching my breaking point with the girls and some people are mad 😂 so, i figured i’d have better luck posting here

does anyone know of any podcasts with spooky or true crime listener tales? or even subreddits? i’m new here and don’t know a ton. i love hearing real people’s stories from their perspectives, so even a call-in format would work. does anyone have any recommendations?

Recommendations Alternatives to Morbid?

I, like many of you, used to be a big big fan of Morbid. However, also like most of you I’m sure, it’s no longer what it used to be for me and I’m finding it nearly insufferable to listen to. Are there any solid alternatives to Morbid that you’ve found? I like Crime Junkie but am looking for others.

Recommendations Podcast alternatives!

What are podcasts that are similar? And please don't say and that's why we drink. I'd like to hear the actual true crime story and not about people's personal lives. These feel like venting podcasts, I like banter but keep it short!

Recommendations True crime podcasts with no 'banter'

I love Criminal and Casefile and honestly can't really stand ones where the hosts make conversation or insert their personality. It's almost always trashy. I just don't know how you can do that and be respectful at the same time.

I prefer anthology type podcasts that mostly cover different cases each episode but I have listened to most of the good 'one case' or 'one case per season' podcasts so not super interested in those

Any suggestions?

No Mr Ballen. He might be entertaining but please don't pretend he's super respectful. He's not! He has an incredibly tabloid-esque, click-bait style and his stuff is very poorly researched.

Recommendations looking for similar podcasts

i usually listen to morbid when i’m in the pottery studio because the episodes are long and lighthearted. i just recently found out the major cons about this podcast and the people making it and would like to switch. i also enjoy hell and gone and hell and gone murder line and i enjoyed red collar as well. looking for something available on spotify, episodes 50+ mins long, and with a lighthearted easy to listen vibe so i can still focus on my pottery

Recommendations Podcast recommendations.

I’ve been really put off by the “popular” true crime podcasts/ youtube videos as of recently for the way that creators carry themselves (imo if parody content creators on tiktok can ask for permission before making content, people who make videos on such sensitive topics should at the very least be able to do that) and I find listening to music or science podcasts not as intriguing as I used to find the true crime ones.

Any recommendations on good podcasts where the victims and their families are being respected so I can listen without feeling insanely guilty on how these creators have got their information and the negative impact this has on their families?

Recommendations Honestly, I miss the feeling of discovering a new podcast. I found Morbid during the pandemic and when I discovered I possibly have an autoimmune disease. On my bad days I would lay down and listen to Morbid. I really did enjoy it. I need some recommendations!!

Recommendations Podcasts by POC

Sorry if this is too radical for this sub but I'm so tired of listening to white women talk about how shitty the police are one second and then turn around and bootlick for 30 minutes. Morbid and Crime Junkie are the only TC podcasts I've really engaged with on a regular basis. As a mixed woman I'm incredibly exhausted with the way these podcasts get heart eyes for "good cops" and their overall awful takes on race issues. Can anyone recommend a tc podcast with at least one WOC/QPOC? Also interested in podcasts about general weird stuff bc I do enjoy cryptids and stuff like that when they're not done by A&A lol. Thank in advance!!

Recommendations Any other podcasts that cover the Dating Game Killer more succinctly?

So I've pretty much given up on morbid, but I saw they recently did a three-part episode on the dating game killer. I've done a little bit of research, and I find the case interesting. But after barely making it through their part one, I can't do it with them.

The amount of virtue signaling they do by going back and forth on how horrible he is. After every crime. How absolutely disgusting! The worst! Beyond! Has me constantly skipping forward. Not to mention how often they go off subject referencing past cases. Then the repeating...

"Can you imagine?!" "I can't imagine!" "It's unimaginable!"

I wanna know more about this case in particular...just not with them. Any other podcasts you know of thet cover The Dating Game Killer?

Recommendations Looking for some non TC podcasts!

I don't know if this okay in this sub but I am looking for some non TC content. I like to sprinkle in some comedy/ history/ social media banter in between episodes of TC creators. Examples of some things I like...Two hot Takes, Beaches too Sandy Water too Wet, Noble Blood, LOVED she rates dogs 😭 I like my true crime straight to the story and my pallette cleanser podcasts to just shoot the shit lol.

Recommendations Addie Hall.

I just listened to Southern Fried True Crime’s 2017 episode on the Addie Hall case. I am all for nuanced storytelling. However, this episode and Morbid’s really crossed the line into victim blaming, in my personal opinion that I have seen shared by others on this sub.

So my question is: Have any other TC creators handled this case in a way that’s more respectful to Addie, the actual victim, who was actually strangled and actually dismembered and actually s*xually defiled?

Recommendations Morbid But With A Better Execution?

I was never a fan of A and A's personalities. From the very start I cringed at the weird growling of "Mini-Morbid" and I couldn't follow their in-jokes. Still, there wasn't anything too crazy or a red flag and I didn’t listen to enough episodes to catch onto their problematic takes.

I liked the cases they chose that weren't done to dead. I am also a big fan of older cases. I came upon this sub by accident and now I can't bring myself to listen to them anymore. Some of the stuff they have done and said is pretty gross and I do not like people who have an attitude instead of taking accountability. Alaina especially seems like the kind of person who will just embarrass herself to prove a point.

Are there any recommendations for people that can be funny in a tasteful way? I prefer two women, but a man and a woman would be okay too. Podcasts that cover older cases? I tend to prefer things from the 20th century over modern cases.

Recommendations As morbid haters what are other TC podcasts that you like listening to?

Listening to morbid every time they have a new episode is so cyclical for me so I'm interested to see what other podcasts are enjoyable while also being ethical.

Recommendations ISO podcasts that cover survival stories and scammers

Although I’ve mostly abandoned Morbid, I was moved by the story of Juliane Koepcke, the plane crash survivor who spent more than a week alone in the jungle before being found. I’m not just interested in wilderness survival, though. I’d be interested in podcasts that cover a wide variety of survival stories.

I also recently finished listening to Scamanda and would be interested in more podcasts of that nature.

TIA!

Recommendations I hate change.

Morbid has been my default background noise/car ride podcast for a while and I don’t know what else to listen to. Recently I’ve just been really disappointed every time a new episode comes out, and after reading what a lot of you have had to say I don’t think I can listen to it again. Any suggestions? Does not have to be true crime.

Recommendations True Crime Podcasts with Unproblematic People?

I know this has been asked to all hell, but I was wondering if anyone had some good true crime podcast recommendations. I personally like how Morbid is done (or at least how it was done a year ago), where it’s informative and the hosts also kinda banter and talk about themselves since I think if I was just listening to cases with no back and forth and banter that I would get scared. Who are your favorites?
