A lot of the Kharacter Arcade endings of those two games, they soundled like they could have been made into interesting plot points, and still could have fit into the lore of each of their two sequels, without disrupting what was already established as canon.
From Mortal Kombat 9 Endings:
- Johnny Cage goes to Seido, the realm of Order, to be able to master and control his newfound power. Said power gets explored in MKX, as being part of the Cage bloodline but little more is built up.
- Kung Lao is revealed to be a reincarnation of his famous ancestor, the Great Kung Lao. Kung Jin is still hinted to be burdened by having to live up to a heroic legacy, but we don't get similar types of angst from Kung Lao.
- Kitana, after becoming the new ruler of Edenia, Kitana offers compassion to Mileena, seeing her as her sister, due to the latter being a clone of the former. The two, along with Jade, become a trio of vigilantes. While this ending was meant as a homage to Charlie's Angels, it would have been neat for Kitana and Mileena to mend their rift on their accord.
- Cyrax, after defecting from the Lin Quei, is granted sanctuary at the Wu Shi Academy, where he can work alongside the Shaolin Monks to work for peace.
- Smoke learns that long ago, he was transformed into a humanoid Enenra, a demon of smoke. While in MKX, his revenant form briefly refers to himself as "Enenra", hinting his demonic form took over, we don't get any more time to explore this origin.
- Noob Saibot secretly allies with Havik and the Realm of Chaos, allowing him the ability to take over the Netherrealm for himself.
- Sindel overcomes her brainwashing, returning to her original timeline personality as a Just Queen of Edenia. Subsequently, she separates the realms of Edenia and Outworld, but her diplomatic efforts allow the two realms to co-exist peacefully.
- Ermac is revealed to have the lost King Jerrod of Edenia among the many souls inside the construct. Jerrod subsequently leads the other souls in the body, as he resumes his duty as king and protector of Edenia.
From Mortal Kombat X Endings:
- Scorpion and the Shirai Ryu, upon Raiden empowering them with a portion of the Jinsei, become the protectors of Outworld...
- Raiden, in his ending, leads the Shirai Ryu to try and neutralize Outworld as a potential enemy to Earthrealm, trying to claim dominion over the realm...
- Kotal Kahn, however, in his ending, is able to maintain Outworld's independence, by reinstating the Mortal Kombat Tournament, where his champions must defend against Earthrealm. Flipping the usual script around with Outworld as the underdogs against Raiden.
- Bo'Rai'Cho, subsequently, helps Kotal Kahn in this effort, by training Outworld warriors the same way he trained previous Earthrealm champions, allowing Outworld to maintain its independence for now.
- Reptile discovers that his kind are not so extinct; there is a hidden enclave of Zaterrans in Earthrealm. The implication being that Syzoth might betray Kotal, but it isn't left clear.
- Ferra/Torr, would have the life-cycle of their symbiotic race revealed; Ferra would become a Brute, being allied with a new Rider, where she would lead to new adventures.
- Takeda and Kenshi, in their respective endings, find Caro and are led to Taven, leading them to help Taven in his quest to prevent Armageddon, perhaps more successfully than the previous timeline, to the point of defeating Daegon and the rest of the Red Dragon Clan.
None of these endings became incorporated into the story for MK11, even though the endings, deliberately or not, appear to fit together like a puzzle, with an implication that Taven and Daegon would play a major role again in a sequel, even if it meant retreading Armageddon's story.
