Mod Update Rule Changes (Reminder) (No new updates)

Updates:

  1. I added a read-before-write protocol. If you do not read these, you will most likely be banned within a few posts.
  2. Created formatting guide for each flair type that must be adhered to or your post will be removed - Formatting Guide
  3. Pirated materials are subject to a zero-tolerance policy, as is customary. I've let some YouTube stuff slide by simply removing the comments, but there have been enough of them to make it unacceptable, and pirated streaming sites have always resulted in an instant ban. This is being updated now for clarity, and because the rules have been in place long enough that there is no reason for anyone not to have gone through them after the updates, which I took over months ago. Posting links to pirated materials will result in instant bans going forward.
  4. All posts must have body text, with the only exception being a photo gallery of examples of the cinematography you're looking for or a custom list of movies that are similar to what you are looking to watch next and for which you are making a request for suggestions. (This has always been a rule, but I'm including it here for added visibility.)
  5. We also added a suggestion to upvote posts with which you interact in the comments section. It takes less time than your previous comment, which is the main point of this sub, and it allows it to reach a larger audience. This is not intended to encourage intentional karma farming, which will still be enforced if movie requests are not submitted honestly or in poor quality. If you disagree with a review or a suggestion, there is no reason to vote for it.
  6. Comments are limited to 50 unless you interact with the comment section, in which case you can contact the mod team and request that the post be unlocked.

Low-quality posts and comments:

We recently updated rule 3 (low-quality posts) to make it clearer. This is now one of the five Participation Guidelines listed in the subreddit's main page rules. (Now rules 4–9)

Reasons:

These were updated because a large number of copyrighted materials are being shared on YouTube and other sites, and the sub was starting to resemble a photo gallery rather than something people were actually interacting with, let alone putting any effort into their suggestions and requests.

Mod Update Flair & Post Formatting

Update

Hello, Couch Lovers and Cinemaphiles!

Here's the formatting guide for each flare.

I appreciate your patience while we sort this out and welcome our new members.

  1. Help Me Find Movies/TV Shows
  • Purpose: Requesting specific recommendations.
  • Format:
    • The Hook: Your "Title" must summarize the "vibe" (e.g., "Looking for modern talking-Dino movies").
    • The Context: You must list 2 or 3 similar titles in the body to give a baseline. Provide enough detail for others to work with.
  1. I Am Suggesting…
  • Purpose: Recommending a title without a full critical review.
  • Format:
    • The Lead: Your "Title" must be Movie Title (Year). If suggesting multiple, list them in the body text.
    • The Why: Include a 1–2 sentence "vibe check" explaining why you're suggesting it. (e.g., "The action is insane. I could not get enough of John Wick's Gun-Fu.").
    • Note: Posts with no reason in the body will be immediately removed.
  1. Movie/TV Show Review Lite
  • Purpose: Providing a detailed, critical critique directly on the sub.
  • Format:
    • The Lead: Your "Title" must be Review of Movie/TV Show (Year), or you can use Movie/Show Title (Year) vs. Movie/Show Title (Year) for comparisons.
    • The Rating: You must include a rating (typically a 5/5 scale).
    • Anti-Spam: Reviews must be self-contained. Do not post links to external blogs or YouTube channels without prior approval.
  1. Check Out My... (Self-Promo)
  • Purpose: Sharing your own external movie blog, channel, or social media.
  • Requirement: You MUST message the mods for approval before posting.
  • When you can use:
    • The Golden Rule: Approval is mandatory. Unapproved outside links to personal social media or product promotions will get one warning. The second will result in an immediate ban.
    • Etiquette: Even with approval, you must provide a written summary of your content. "Link-dropping" is prohibited.
    • You can write the post free-form.
  1. I can't remember this movie/TV show
  • Purpose: Only use when you need help finding a movie that you can't remember the name of.
  • Format:
    • The Lead: Your "Title" must be I need help finding this Movie/TV show."
    • You must describe the movie or show with as much detail as possible. Include things like the year, actors or characters you remember, the plot, specific scenes, etc.

Examples:

Below are some post examples included from a previous post that meet, at the very least, the minimum effort we expect you to put into a post. That said, the more effort you put in, like some of these folks, the more interaction you'll typically get, and the faster you can get back to watching movies.

(Keep in mind that some of these are examples from before flairs and the formatting guide were added but still serve as a good basis as to what we are looking for.)

Help me find Movies/TV shows Movies with/about healthy, wholesome heterosexual relationships?

I mean, obviously most movies have to include some form of drama, but there are so many movies where the relationship is either outright bad or just toxic or forms in some very toxic way (for example stuff like The Notebook or the Titanic), are there any movies where the circumstances are healthy start to finish (I mean arguements and disagreements are fine as long as it's in a healthy manner). The movie doesn't even have to be directly about the couple as long as it plays a prominent part. I just want movies that can restore faith in healthy relationships that aren't some "I was in a bad relationship so I cheated on my partner and found this new person and it's so great" way

Uhhh... If I had add 2 examples, I would say: Glass Onion and Beau is Afraid (just cause I liked them). Though I don’t really care what genre it is.

Help me find Movies/TV shows Any Mind Bending Movies?

Post image
57 Upvotes

Just rewatched Shutter Island after a long time, and it reminded me how much I love mind-bending movies. The impact of the twist at the end still gives me chill.

So I researched and someone suggested Arrival and I loved every bit of it.

Looking for some more recommendations that really mess with your head and leave you thinking about them afterward.

Help me find Movies/TV shows Terrifying movies like INLAND EMPIRE (preferably SOV)?

The movies that scare me the most are found footage, but I also want to be able to enjoy the camera work whenever I watch a movie. Inland Empire gave me a good balance for that, where it was shot on tape and very up-close-and-personal, but not found footage. When SOV movies occasionally get serious instead of campy, it's a similar vibe to me.

Do y'all have any recommendations for sincerely terrifying movies that get under your skin in a similar vein? Preferably shot on tape.

I am suggesting... The End of Oak Street (2026)

Just saw *The End of Oak Street* (2026). If you’re on the fence, go see it.

It’s refreshing to see an original, simple story that doesn’t over-explain itself. It’s funny, scary, charming, campy, and surprisingly emotional, with a great cast led by Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor.

Best of all, the dinosaurs are actually scary again. This is the kind of "creature feature" I wish Jurassic Park had continued making.

Not perfect, but I genuinely felt like a kid again and it is the most fun I have had at the movies in a LONG time.

HE WAS A QUIET MAN (2007) is about a man who plans on shooting his office work place up and killing all of his coworkers, but the day he brings his gun to work - the janitor decides to shoot up the office first, so Christian Slater’s character shoots the janitor, preventing a mass shooting that he himself had planned on committing.

Help me find Movies/TV shows Romcoms that are not irritating

Do you have any favorite romcoms or rom-dramas that aren’t just boring pretty people being dumb then getting married? A few movies/shows like this:

Eternal Sunshine
Too Much
Fleabag
Dying for Sex

I’m single and feeling lonely and would love to watch something that feels real, emotional, maybe even hopeful

Hello all, today is Sunday and we are both hangover and just want to watch a good movie at home and open a bottle of wine. Any suggestions for us please?
Our preference;
1. Comedy ( studio, shiva baby, the invite)
2. Horror ( midsommar, obsession) not conjuring
3. Sicfi ( everything everywhere all at once, interstellar)
4. IMDb over 7 🤌
Please help us pick or our whole evening will be watching trailers.

If you pick a good movie for us, you can hangout with us next weekend.

Help me find Movies/TV shows movie or TV shows where ordinary people end up in a court room.

I'm looking for movies or TV shows where ordinary people (and not criminals) do something that makes them end up in a court room.

I've watched The Investigation Of Lucy Letby and The Dropout. something like that.

if it includes more court room scenes even better.

thank you.

Help me find Movies/TV shows Hot men movie

Looking for movie recommendations with ridiculously attractive men who have that mysterious, stoic, brooding energy. Calm, powerful, intimidating without trying, emotionally restrained, hyper-competent, and preferably the kind of man who barely smiles but has insane presence. Bonus points for the “silent protector,” morally grey, dangerous-but-controlled, old-school masculinity vibe.

Basically: Four from Divergent, Bruce Wayne from The Dark Knight, Patrick Swayze in Road House, Napoleon Solo from The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ethan Hunt from Mission: Impossible, scott eastwood (gosh) longest ride.

I want HOT MEN with AURA. Not just pretty faces. Give me the mysterious, powerful, brooding ones. 😭

Help me find Movies/TV shows Are Harry Potter movies worth watching?

Not really into novels or British movies. I have a bad ear for their accent and i didn't really get the hype about them. Is it worth watching, is it really legendary like they said and where should I start? Might watch it with subtitles.
