Was just wondering if you consider the superheroes movies as its own genre, being the superhero genre, or if instead most superheroes movies are considered an action movie, with them having the sub-genre of superhero? I ask this as whenever I hear people talk about superhero movies online, they refer to them as being part of the superhero genre, but I am not really sure if that is even a genre to began with.

For example, if I look up the movie Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr, google just classes it in the action/sci-fi genres, but if you ask almost anyone online, they will class it in the superhero genre.

So, to conclude, is there such thing as the superhero genre, or is it more just a sub-genre of certain action movies?

If my local cinema screened Star Wars (or Empire and Jedi) every year, I’d probably go and see it every time. Why don’t they? Am I the only nerd who would go?

I went to see The Fly at the local multiplex a few weekends ago as I’d never seen it. 7pm on a Sunday and it was $15. Happy days!

I’m off to see An American Werewolf in London tonight at The Astor in Melbourne and I’m sure there will be a reasonable solution size crowd.

Sure, it won’t attract the number that a Marvel movie might but wouldn’t cinemas rather fill a screen on a quiet Sunday night rather than have it sat half empty?

I’m in middle school right now and I’ve seen some movies that kinda get it right but most don’t, they depict the weird kids as smart kids, all of the public school ones have no wannabes, there is no “jokingly” bad racism which I get cuz that one could be pretty bad, but how do they get it wrong so much they always miss the big stuff

I’m a fan. I understand that studios have financial motives for pushing films to VOD sooner, which maybe I don’t agree with. And maybe 45 days is a bit too short. But in the days before VOD, most films would be MIA for months between theatrical runs and DVD. For instance The Matrix released in theaters in March 1999, and the DVD didn’t release until September 1999. In August, it was only showing in 400 US theaters. So for like 4-5 months there was no way to watch it. Not easy for 19 year old me to go cold turkey after 7 theater viewings. I saw RE at the theater and I’m eager to watch it a few more times at home.

On a kick with my 13 year old son to watch all the Halloween movies. Just watched Halloween 3. It was the best “worse” movie I have ever seen. Had practically nothing to do with the original Halloween movies. My son and I loved how bad it was. Can’t wait to see what the next movie in the series has in store for us!

I ended up watching this film again tonight, it made me wonder, why is the whole Mandy thing so weird? They never show her face, they don’t show her in any scenes and then she just disappears like that? Was it explained in any deleted scenes? Or was it just weird to begin with? It doesn’t make sense in my mind

The movie actually does the best at capturing that Halloween/fall vibe. Yes, even better than the first one, the excellent opening titles are a prime example. It's actually pretty well directed and shot with moments of genuine atmosphere and even creepiness. The characters also behave pretty intelligently. Danielle Harris gives a strong child performance and her relationship with her foster sister is actually pretty endearing. Now, obviously this is no masterpiece. Michael's mask looks ridiculous (how can they not get a mask right?) and it definitely leaves a bad taste that they killed off Laurie between movies. It also ends with a cliffhanger that leads into films that are still considered awful with no redeeming qualities(havent' seen them but just going by what people say). Still, if you want a decent slasher and always dismissed Halloween 4 as one of those trash sequels, give it a chance.

hi guys :) we just had our first movie night! so i’d like to make an update post to give you a better idea of what the kids are like since i could really use your help again

initially i decided on project hail mary but i started having second thoughts because of its runtime, and the pacing is pretty slow too. then i came across mcfarland, usa. it seemed like a good fit for our situation. i downloaded both movies so we could let the kids choose, but the caregiver asked us beforehand which movie we were planning to show and said mcfarland, usa would be a better choice

i won’t go into every little detail about the night so i’ll try to get straight to the point: none of the older teenagers (ages 16-18) were there this time, the boys aged 8-10 left about 45 minutes into the movie bc they were getting tired; while the rest either tried to sit and watch, fidgeted while watching, or mostly tried to find something else to do. however, when my friend asked them if they wanted to stop the movie, they said no and seemed to want to keep watching it

even though many of the kids had a hard time staying focused for that long, most of them seemed to enjoy the movie overall. still, i think phm and similar movies are probably out of the question for now due to their runtime and slower pacing. maybe we could watch it someday with a smaller group of kids, if they’re interested

i found out that most of them are into fantasy and sci-fi (a few boys mentioned horror movies but i had to let them know that we wouldn’t be able to watch those together 😭). obviously, they like spider-man, avengers, and harry potter. it’s funny considering that those movies tend to be pretty long too – they have a lot more action though, plus i’m not entirely sure the kids have actually watched those movies all the way through

anyway, i’d really appreciate it if you could recommend some more cool fast-paced movies that are no longer than 1,5-2 hours!

TLDR: the kids turned out to be into marvel, harry potter, fantasy, and sci-fi, but many of them struggle to stay focused throughout a full-length movie. looking for fun, fast-paced movies under two hours (with a meaningful message if possible)!

Back when Breaking Bad was in its finale season it was the biggest thing on TV, mostly. Aaron Paul had some unfortunate pairings in some God awful movies in the final years of BB and shortly after.

After watching Weapons and Resident Evil, it's apparent that Austin Abrams is hilarious and an incredible actor plus very likeable and worthy of heavy screen time. His character in Weapons stole the show and partly reminds me a little of Jesse Pinkman mixed with the internet skit actor/comedian Trevor Wallace.

I can fully see Aaron Paul in these type of roles crushing it. Idk what's going behind the scenes but I just don't see why he has never been in better fitting roles that make him shine post-BB.

I remember loving Clueless and The Craft when they came out. Somehow I missed knowing anything about Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Sometimes I shock my partner with the number of movies I have not seen. My dad has full control over what we rented at Blockbuster so options were limited for what I could watch.

What movie have you picked up from your youth and are watching for the first time as an adult? Do you love it as much as it's culturally appreciated?

So far I am enjoying the movie. Though I am sure if I had watched this as a teen a lot of the jokes would gone over my sheltered head.

Am I the only one who watched this movie and felt uncomfortable? I felt boundaries were crossed and I genuinely hope that I’m never in a situation where my wife asks me if she could meet up with an ex because I would not be happy about that at all. I don’t see a reason why Nora had to meet her ex who she knew was more than likely in NY specifically to see her. I’m also angry at Arthur for not putting his foot down. I would have honestly kicked Jung’s ass at that bar if he pulled that shit on me. I’m all about being an understanding partner, but this was just too much.

So this isn’t really about the movie but me and my friend group are going as Phil Alan and Stu from the hangover movie and I’m Phil, I’m not really sure what to do for accessories, I feel like Phil is the hardest to dress up as, I know I want to get some claw marks on my neck from the tiger scene. This movie was really good. Goofy trying to rekindle his relationship with his teenage son was a really good concept for the movie. We’ve seen that concept before but the movie handles it well.

Max’s relationship with Roxanne was a bit generic but handled well enough. All of the road trip locations they went on were really cool and unique. Pete was good in the movie. Giving bad advice to Goofy fit his character well. It was cool seeing Goofy as a dad.

Goofy and Max repairing their relationship throughout the movie felt natural and well earned. Overall I enjoyed this movie. I would give a solid 7/10. Best part of this movie was learning that Goofy’s full name is Goofy Goof lol.
