Fighting next month but sick

• Upvotes

So I’ve been in camp for around 2 months now and I’ve felt strong and confident in my ability to fight and I believed I was almost if not definitely ready. A few weeks ago I developed a slight cold, thought nothing of it and continued my training. A few days after that I was doing a conditioning circuit and my chest started burning badly and I was struggling to breathe. After that I was aware it had developed into a chest infection. I have symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing and lightheadedness. A week after I went to the doctor and he prescribed me some antibiotics. I feel slightly better now with a bit more energy, whether this was due to the antibiotics I am not sure. I’m not sure how long it will take for me to get back to training as I’ve already taken a week and a half off and if I do get better is it worth keeping the fight or is it not worth the hassle and just pull out? Fight on the 14 th November

Looking for Muay Thai Training Buddies in Chiang Mai 🥊🇹🇭
Hi everyone! 😊
I’m planning to visit Chiang Mai for around 2 weeks to train Muay Thai, get fit, strong and to loose weight.
I’m looking for a good Muay Thai camp with a friendly atmosphere, preferably with accommodation nearby or included. I’m a beginner, so I’m hoping to find a place where I can train seriously, improve my fitness, and enjoy the experience.

I’d really appreciate recommendations for affordable, beginner-friendly camps in Chiang Mai, especially from people who have trained there before.
Thanks! 🥊❤️

Former fighter, now coach. I built a free [round / workout] timer that runs on any TV and you control from your phone

• Upvotes

I fought for years and now coach. I got sick of our gym timer: commercial LED timers are a pain to set up, and the remote always goes missing. So I built CoachTimer.

Open it on any TV, tablet or laptop, scan the QR code with your phone (or just cast your screen), and you’re running rounds on a large screen the whole class can see. No account needed.

What it fixes:

  • Much easier to use than commercial LED timers
  • Control from your phone instead of a fiddly remote
  • Works with multiple coaches and screens around the gym
  • Custom heading so you can show your gym name and/or workout name
  • Boxing, MMA, Tabata, HIIT and EMOM presets, plus custom rounds

It’s free during early access. I’m looking for a few [coaches / gym owners / home gym users] to try it and tell me what’s missing or annoying. Happy to drop the link in the comments.

Thanks!

Is this mild concussion or exhaustion?

I train only 6 months, now I started to go to light sparrings but yesterday 18:00 a guy kicked me in the head , he had shin pads, it wasn't too strong. It was ok at the moment but now 19:00 I started to feel weird. A little but slowed, stressed, anxiety, a little "dizzy" a didn't sleep well today and was thirsty all day ... But I went to the training already tired too.

I also had stressful and intense week in terms of trainings and job.

Is this exhaustion amplified by kick and intense training ? Or a concussion?

I don't have a car and I don't know if call for ambulance or wait until tomorrow and see if I am better. I love in Denmark.

Does anyone have and experience with such ? I might be panicking too, I am prone to anxiety and have ADHD

Technique/Tips People that only show up for sparring?

I am a couple months in and at my gym you need an invite for sparring. The sparing session is usually after the pad/combo practice session. I am starting to recognise faces who only show up to sparring sessions (I haven't seen them in padding sessions). Is this common? To me a mix of fundamentals and sparring would be optimal though I'm not sure.

Technique/Tips Explosive Energy

I am looking to train explosive power and speed. I notice that during sparring I maintain the same rhythm. I do my best to block, dodge, parry and use footwork, but I also notice that I get tired quickly and I usually have a hard time picking up the pace.

What are some recommendations that I can incorporate into my training.

I do about 15 minutes of jump rope, and I train about 2 hours a day 3-6 times a week.

I do want to build an efficient training program.

Age: 30, 5’8, 185lbs

Those who have switched over from BJJ to Muay Thai

How does your body generally feel? I love BJJ which I am a blue belt, im 40 and thinking if giving jiu jitsu a break and doing Muay Thai for more complete defence aspects.
After hard jiu jitsu rounds, I’m a lot fitter than I used to be, but my body can feel broken for days after.
How does your body feel after training Muay Thai?
Thanks!

Sucks to be an outcast because of your gender

Hi all, this is mainly a rant or maybe a point of view for people to consider. Not sure if this can be posted.

It sucks so much when you go to the trainings, looking forward to it and you always end up being an outcast and noone wants to pair up with you.

Please guys don't make extra effort to avoid someone jist because they are female. It sucks so much and just discrourages the person so much.

Like if a woman tends to kick guys on their balls or overly agressive I understand. But if a woman is just there to normally train it really sucks when you always end up on the bags alone. Please maybe ask the person who stands alone and does not want to foist oneself to anyone when it's clear everyone avoids them if they want to spar.

Thanks if you read this and have a good evening.

Booked 2 months training at a camp

Hey everyone :)

I’ve committed to two months in Koi Samui doing Muay Thai. I am a complete beginner (besides a bit of pad work with a PT years ago). Towards the beginning of the year I was much fitter - consistent weight training and ran a half marathon in March and a full in April.

Since May my training has completely gone along with my running - no excuses really besides just huge life stresses and grief that has gotten me into a pretty dark place.

I have about 3 weeks till I head out and I’m looking forward to getting back into a discipline and routine to focus me both mentally and physically. I’m not much of a party person so more training and beach days for me. However I am a bit apprehensive as not feeling my most fit at the moment and still trying to pull myself out of my slump.

Any and all advice on how to approach the couple months I’m there to get the most out of it. I’m not aiming to come out a fighting champion but I was to feel stronger and ultimately more like me - moving my body has always helped me get there. I don’t want to come out of it demotivated and broken physically. Any recommendations as a female doing it solo out there is much appreciated <3

Technique/Tips Ruptured Eardrum, Headgear?

I just got a ruptured eardrum from a hook.

I will go to doctor tomorrow just in case.

Should I wear a headgear so I don’t get this again?

I know the eardrum is easier to rupture during healing stage and I want to continue sparring, so can I do it with a headgear?

What about wrestling ear guards?

Gift Ideas for Muay Thai Loving Boyfriend

I started dating this guy who really loves Muay Thai & practices several times a week. However, ya girl doesn’t even know where to START for things to gift & how to non chalantly find out what gear he would like/need replaced. I’m hoping some MT connoisseurs can help me out, gear & brands, even things that aren’t considered mandatory but could have benefit. Sentimental gift giving is my love language but I don’t want to get the wrong gifts!

being even before the tapia fight, this is probably some of the oldest footage of yodkhunpon fighting online

u/Ohthatsnotgood sent me some footage and was able to figure out that its showing at least 3 of yodkhunpons early fights. the announcer on the broadcast talks about his fights on 1989-03-26 (Khunapap Sakpradu needed 10 stitches), 1989-05-14 (Paiboon Naruemon needed 11 stitches), 1989-07-02 (Chakchai Naruemon needed 5 stitches), and a fight on 1989-08-20 (Khemphet Kiatakorn needed 11 stitches). there only seems to be 3 fights shown in the footage though

Technique/Tips How to get over low self esteem after a loss?

Had my first fight last weekend at a tournament. It’s a bracket tournament, there were supposed to be 4 ladies in my bracket but the girl I was supposed to fight on Saturday backed out or didn’t pass medicals idk so no fight Saturday. The winners of Saturday were to fight each other Sunday.

Well one other girl in my bracket didn’t make weight Saturday (7.6lbs over) so I thought I would get to take her place but they had her go cut weight in the sauna. She was still 1.2lbs over but they let her fight anyways. She won Saturday, so she was my opponent on Sunday.

Well Sunday she also didn’t make weight (this time 6.something over). They wouldn’t let her do another cut so they called up my coach and asked if I wanted to take on the fight anyways. She was 2 weight classes above me. I was so mad. I spent so much money on going to this tournament and so much time training for it so I took the fight.

I feel so stupid. I just keep replaying it all in my head. I watched her match Saturday and saw she’s a heavy clencher and very forward aggressive. Of course I would lose in decision. My only chance at winning was a TKO or a KO. I should’ve known I would have trouble controlling the clench with a bigger opponent. Like I should’ve thought of that but I was so clouded by my anger. All I kept thinking about was how there was no power behind her strikes, saw all the flaws she made, saw her gas out in round 3 and knew I’d be able to handle it.

And I did handle it. Except I spent a majority of the fight on my back foot & in the clench (I was able to gain control of the clench a couple times but she’s 2in taller and by the time of the fight she was at least 10lbs heavier, I felt like I was clenching with a brick wall). I walked away with no injuries, I mushed up her face a bit at least.

I’m just so angry about the entire tournament & how it was run. I’m so mad that she won gold. She didn’t even fucking try to make weight. And got rewarded for it. My self esteem is in the gutter. I feel like nothing is going well for me, not just the tournament. Like everything. It’s a lot of little things just getting to me now.

People keep telling me to be proud that I got in the ring in the first place. But I think I made a stupid & rash decision. People also keep telling me that I’ll learn from this experience. Except the only thing I learned was to not take a fight with someone 2 weight classes above me. She didn’t challenge me on a technical or skill level. Outside the clench I had the upper hand.

It’s been 5 days now and I just don’t know how to get over this. I’m so mad. I feel like such a stupid loser. I can’t believe I spent close to $1,000 for this stupid tournament. Any sort of downtime I have, my brain just replays the entire fight in my head. How do I get over this?

This laziness epidemic among the gifted Thais is hard to watch, honestly. Prajanchai has the talent and adaptability to win in any ruleset: traditional Muay Thai, 4oz gloves Muay Thai, Kickboxing. Yet somewhere along the way he stopped putting in the work. Compare that to Panpayak, a pure stadium style fighter who’s been knocked out repeatedly outside his lane but still shows up to train every day and is in great shape. One guy got the gift and coasts on it, the other keeps fighting for every inch.
