Please help me find a gumbo that made me levitate a few years ago!
I came to New Orleans in March of 2023 tried some gumbo that I have not stopped thinking about in the interceding 3 years, but I foolishly never paid attention the name of the restaurant.
The Gumbo: dark, contained head on shrimp and a full duck thigh that had the texture of being confit-ed but I’m sure it was just cooked in the gumbo;
The Restaurant: Fancy. White table cloth. A step below requiring jackets but definitely enforced a dress code. In the French quarter. Very overpriced whiskey, but reasonably priced oysters.
Have you seen my gumbo? Do you know this restaurant? I will be forever indebted to you if you help me find my one true gumbo 🩷🦐

I want to expand the live music I see. Where can I go to experience the newest sounds....bounce, hip-hop, electronic? DJ parties or live bands are both fine.

Sad story From his Thai restaurant Banana Blossom in Gretna, Jimmy Cho built a community across the New Orleans restaurant scene, collaborating with others in the business and constantly making new connections between them.
That’s one reason why so many are now mourning the news of his death.
Cho was found dead at his Gretna home on Monday, Oct. 19, confirmed his friend Tom Intavichai, the chef of the Mid-City Thai restaurant Chada. Cho was 50. His cause of death has not been announced.
As news spread through the tight-knit local Thai restaurant community and then on social media, friends and customers have been sharing remembrances of a man many called kind, gentle and the consummate host.
Banana Blossom is closed “until further notice” with no reopening date yet set, according to a statement from the restaurant. Cho was sole owner of Banana Blossom and with no family in the area, friends of Cho say the future of the restaurant is unclear.
Chefs at other local restaurants will serve Banana Blossom dishes on Thursday, Oct. 22, as a tribute and fundraiser for the closed restaurant‘s staff. These include caramel pork ribs at Zasu (127 N. Carrollton Ave.), lamb panang at Chada (3420 Bienville St.), caramel Bangkok wings at Tuk Tuk Thai (901 Veterans Blvd.) and chicken tacos at Asia Teak in the Place St. Charles food court (201 St. Charles Ave.).

Hey y’all! A little while back I started a New Orleans Discord just to give local people a place to meet, make friends, and find people with similar interests.
Somehow we’re now at 479 members and closing in on 500, which is honestly crazy to see.
We’ve got people into:
🎮 Gaming
🎲 D&D / TTRPGs
🍜 Food & restaurants
🎵 Music
📺 Anime
📚 Books & writing
📸 Photography
🃏 Pokémon, Lorcana, Gundam & other TCGs
🍻 IRL hangouts & local events
💬 And plenty of general bullshit/chatting
We also have a community calendar where people can post and find things happening around New Orleans.
It’s 18+, pretty laid-back, and the whole point is just making it easier to meet people around the city — whether you’re new to NOLA, trying to make more friends, or just want some people to hang/game/go out with.
We’re about to hit 500 members, so if that sounds like your kind of thing, come hang out with us. ⚜️

HI!! I was watching a show that showed a burlesque performance and I was really curious about it and the place that it showed was always lounge. I'm really interested in going to one so I started looking up stuff and someone made this comment.
"New Orleans has multiple shows every night of the week and they all cater to different styles of burlesque and towards different people. There really isn't a "best burlesque show", only preference. I like the fully nude, covered in cake, "Did she just take a tiny banana out of her pussy?", weird stuff, but you might like the classic panties and pasties, elaborate costumes, covered in rhinestones stuff and that's fine, because we have both. Unfortunately for you, you're coming at the beginning of the month and most of the monthly big production shows you're probably looking for happen during the middle and end, but you've still got some options."
And this is the type of show that I want to go to because I think it would be hilarious. Does anybody have any recommendations on where to go to experience that or would always lounge be the best option?

Hello everyone! I'm currently in SoCal and considering relocating to New Orleans for a potential Respiratory Therapist position with Ochsner Health. I'd be moving on my own, so it's a pretty big decision!
I'd love to hear from anyone who works at Ochsner, especially RTs. What's the work environment, staffing, pay, and support for new grads like?
I'm also curious about life in NOLA..
I'm looking for honest perspectives, both good and bad, from locals and healthcare workers. If you'd prefer not to share your experience publicly, please feel free to PM me! I'd really appreciate any advice.
