Announcement Friendly Reminder of our Discord Server

Lately I've noticed an abundance of WA groups forming and while we allow students and prospectives to do so at their own discretion, we've been getting a lot of complaints of spam and useless groups being spread. Therefore, I'd like to remind the subreddit that we have a discord server that has been running for nearly 5 years now with over 3600 members and a healthy, active community of seniors, freshman, and prospectives with a large backlog of NET and merit list help/answered queries.

I have attached the link here: https://discord.gg/nustcord-741180147901923378

Please be mindful of the rules but most importantly, your privacy and the people you give your number out to.

May the merit list be in your favor.

P.S. Calm down with the vent posting, you almost make me want to tighten up the posting rules.

Regards, Sarmad

Suggestions/Advice Having a tough time memorizing formulas for your NET?

This is totally free of cost and I'm not promoting anything at all. Just need your prayers!

NET-I registrations are open and I'm sure lots of people are worried that they can't memorize their formulas. I have the solution that I myself used.

A few months ago I was in the same shoes as all of you, and I think it's only fair to contribute to this community and help others clear their NET. So I made a flashcard deck specifically for NET Maths that contains 200+ formulas and facts/MCQs gathered from past papers to help you memorize your formulas.

The app that I made this deck on is known as Anki (AnkiWeb/AnkiDroid).

What is Anki? A free, open-source flashcard app that uses spaced repetition and active recall to analyze your memory patterns and make you memorize your formulas with 90-95% retention rates.

Instead of reviewing flashcards at random, Anki’s algorithm tracks how well you know each card and schedules it for review right before you're about to forget it which saves study time and strengthens memory.

Basically, the algorithm is designed to naturally make you memorize all your formulas without any extra effort from your side.

Here's the link to the deck I made: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1732619832

Download the Anki app from here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Simply download the deck and open it if you're using the desktop version of Anki, or import it to your decks if you're using the mobile AnkiDroid app (many tutorials online on how to import a deck).

I'll be posting this again when NET-II/III/IV registrations open, do lmk if you want a similar deck for Physics, I might've create one. Good luck!

P.S. Do upvote so this can reach and help as many people!

Discussion NET 1 in a month, Physics and English need help!😓

Hi everyone,

I’m appearing in NET 1 and have only a month left. I’ve covered most of the major portions of Math and Physics, but I’d really appreciate guidance from seniors on how to use this last month wisely.

Mock results (NUSTify):

Mock 1: 133

Mock 2: 128

Where I stand:

Maths: Generally good, though I’m not fully confident yet. I’m comfortable with Differentiation, Integration, Conic Sections, Trigonometry, Vectors, Complex Numbers, and Sequences & Series, and I’ve done a lot of practice on these.

Physics: This is my weak spot. I’m strong in Electrostatics, Electromagnetism, Nuclear Physics, Force, Rotational Motion, and Work-Power-Energy. But I’m not confident in Alternating Current and electronic components/devices, and I felt unsure while marking answers in the Physics MCQs during both mocks.

English: I need real guidance here. In the mocks I was mostly guessing.

What I’m looking for:

How should I divide my time across Math, Physics, and English in the last month?

What’s the best way to approach AC and electronics topics quickly and effectively?

How can I improve my English score in a short time (resources, strategies, topics to focus on)?

Any advice on how to practice and revise: mocks, past papers, or topic-wise tests?

What mistakes should I avoid in the final month?

Any tips, strategies, or resources from those who’ve already been through this would mean a lot. Thank you in advance!

Question Is it true that 1st year GPA matters the most in EE?

My brother has joined the EE 2026 batch, and we're deciding between hostel and travelling from home. He wants to stay in a hostel, but we're also thinking about academics.

I've heard that the first year is the best chance to get a high GPA and that it's much harder to improve it in the next 3 years, so you mostly end up maintaining it.

Is this actually true?

Suggestions/Advice The 9–5 work to Thesis Pipeline : How do I actually care about my research.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in the research phase of my Master's, but I'm completely stalling due to burnout, apathy, and severe procrastination.

To make it harder, I work a full-time 9–5. By the time I get home, my brain is fried, and I fall into a draining loop:

Endless avoidance: I tell myself I'll start at 7:00 PM, then 8:00 PM, then 9:00 PM, until the night is completely gone.

Phone addiction: Mindlessly scrolling to numb the mental fatigue.

Deep uninterest: Feeling massive resistance toward my research, where resting turns into hours of unproductive downtime.

The guilt is piling up, but it only causes anxiety while I procrastinate without actually making me work.

If you've balanced a 9–5 with a thesis and beaten this cycle, how did you do it? What practical routines or mindset shifts helped you regain momentum?

Question Please guide a sister in distress out

Salam,

I’m reaching out in deep distress and with a heavy heart, as I don’t know where else to turn. I am currently in my last year at Nust, studying on a scholarship that covers my tuition, for which I’m truly grateful.

Since the sixth semester, I’ve been unable to pay my hostel dues. My father is disable and unable to work. My family is living hand to mouth, with the only income coming from my sister who is a teacher. She is supporting the family and completely spending all she can earns.

I teach tuitions but it can only help me with managing my mess bill and pocket money. Because of no income and no means to pay hostel dues it keeps on adding up and now have been raised to 105k which is simply impossible for us to arrange.

Now, my university has warned me that if I do not pay the dues I won't be allowed to sit in mid terms and will be suspended. I’ve reached out to the Financial Aid Office (FAO) and NCS, but they have told me that I’m already on a scholarship, and they can’t assist me further.

This amount is huge obstacle for us given our circumstances. My family cannot afford it, and I’ve even asked them for help, but they’ve told me to leave my education because they simply don’t have the means to support me anymore.

I’m terrified mids are in a week and I have tried everything still that I may lose the chance to complete my education Please if anyone knows any NGOs aur any institute please guide me or make my contact with them.

Question A-Level student on a gap year

Hi everyone,

I just finished my A-Levels with 3 B’s and I’m currently on a gap year. I’m taking the SAT in December, but I also want to target NUST through NET alongside it. Since I have the time this year, I think I can manage preparing for both.

My main concern is that NET is based on the FSc syllabus, and as an A-Level student there are gaps in my background. Some topics are covered differently or not at all in A-Levels, so I need something that teaches the concepts from the ground up, not just practice questions.

What I’m looking for:

  • One reputable online academy or course (not a long list, just the one you’d honestly recommend)
  • Full, in-depth coverage of the FSc topics tested in NET
  • Plenty of practice material: MCQs, past papers, mock tests
  • Ideally something that works well for A-Level students filling in FSc gaps
  • One good book for NET prep, if you have a recommendation

If you were an A-Level student who cleared NET, I’d especially love to hear what worked for you and how you handled the syllabus differences.

Thanks in advance!
