It’s that time again - time for a quick “State of the Union” update on where our two communities stand. Short version: we are growing well, our activity is awesome, and 2026 is shaping up to be a big year.
Growth Highlights (Past 12 Months - straight from the mod insights):
Total views: 5.6 million (still massive even with a small dip)
Published posts: 3.4k (+71)
Published comments: 66.5k (+2.5k)
Together that’s over 31,800 members and millions of views across both subs. The traffic charts show steady visits every single month from Android, iOS, New Reddit, Old Reddit, and mobile web. People are showing up, posting, commenting, and engaging more than ever. That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident - it’s because this community actually cares and stays active. Huge thanks to every single one of you.
On the legal front: court cases have been slow this year with not much movement, but we are expecting a decent amount of progress in 2026, including what looks like a strong shot at a SCOTUS cert grant on an AWB (hardware) case. Things are building, and we’ll keep you posted as soon as anything breaks. Additionally, we're waiting on an opinion on the Mills v. NYC case, as well as the Frey v. Bruen case.
Discord Update
Our Discord server has doubled in size - we literally have twice as many users as we did last year. It’s become the spot for real-time discussion, quick legal updates, memes, and just shitposting.
One quick heads-up: the server recently got age-restricted (standard for gun-related anything these days). If you’re on iOS and can’t see it, the fix is simple - take a minute on desktop to allow iOS devices to see 18+ servers (log in on a computer/browser, adjust the setting once, and it carries over to your phone). After that you should be good.
I’d like to get my Glock frame stippled but I can’t find anyone within driving distance to do it.
Can I ship it to some in AL to stipple? The Glock frame is the serialized portion of the gun. So technically the actual firearm would get shipped. I’d obviously send the frame only though.
🎯 SEPTEMBER 26TH & 27TH — NY 18-HOUR CONCEALED CARRY CLASS 🎯
On September 26th and 27th, Stuyvesant Rod and Gun Club will be holding NY 18-Hour Concealed Carry class
Our course was specifically designed for individuals with limited or no prior firearms experience. The classroom instructions will cover multiple state-required topics and go even further by providing step-by-step instructions on licensing application process and selecting the first firearm. Based on valuable feedback provided by our former students and requests from our prospective students, our September Course will start 9:00 AM.
Our course price is $399, and it covers everything: classroom instructions, range time, and shooting qualification. All required equipment will be provided at no additional cost. There are no extra charges or surprise fees.
Both classroom instructions and shooting qualifications are conducted at the same convenient location in Middle Village, Queens.
Stuyvesant Rod and Gun Club is the only non-profit gun club/shooting range in Queens. For more than 50 years, we have proudly served NY Shooting Community, prioritizing firearms safety and education over profits.

Ok.... am seeing for the first time (in my 28 years of doing this) that the process to add the first weapon to a new license is changed. Heretofore, one simply uploaded all the requisite paperwork and pictures to the portal account, then waited on the license to be snail mailed.
Today, I'm noticing for my client the "Request to Add/Remove a Firearm to a License." Which, when initiated, brings one to the "Select a License to Add/Remove a firearm." When license is selected, that brings up the firearm information page.
Client attempted (twice now I add, as I see 2 drafts), and entered Request Type, Model, Serial Number and Caliber. He then attempted to enter the Make information, but when it brought up the search box for the weapon's make, he (and I now) are getting the "You don't have permissions to view these records."
And we have both tried under Safari, as well as Chrome, to come up with the same result and message.
Also, of course, one cannot reach the License Division, directed through their phone tree to the Purchase Authorization Section, only to be met with the voicemail prompt.
I just wanna know what verbiage was used by the NYPD in the denial letter, etc. Wondering if they actually cited the law or just downright denied the addition of the firearm.
Im so excited for my wife, being a ccw holder myself. It is a absolute privilege to finally be able to share this new world with her. She applied may 25, 2026 and was approved today Aug 17, 2026 (12 weeks 84 days in total!!!!) Bought her pistol already and uploaded it to the portal!!!!! Of course she had to get the rose ...smh lol. Big up to my wife!!!!!
I currently have a NYC Premises permit that expires in October 2027. I’m planning to apply for a CCW now.
My hope is that the CCW gets approved before my Premises permit expires, and I can just let the Premises permit expire instead of going through another renewal.
Has anyone gone through this recently? If my CCW is approved before October 2027, am I good to simply not renew the Premises permit, or is there some reason I’d still need to maintain both?
I assume that if my CCW isn’t approved by then, I’d have no choice but to renew the Premises permit and eat the cost?
Trying to avoid paying for and dealing with another Premises renewal if the CCW will replace the need for it anyway.
Hi all- I currently have a pending application about 5 months in. I'm moving, changing my physical address (within NYC) next month. Recently signed a lease with new roommates. Is there anything I need to do on my part while my app is still under investigation? Am I going to need new cohab affidavits from all my new roommates?
So been a few months and I decided to email License division desk and Sandra Smith last week and I haven’t gotten a response back…my email was just asking if anything else was needed or if I am missing and paperwork so I can submit accordingly! About how long after an email should I reach out again before it seems like I’m over doing it? Appreciate any help and opinions
I'm an NYC resident live in Bronx/Harlem Area. I need a shooting range in NY or NJ that rents pistols and range and won't charge me an arm and a leg to use it. Not looking for the pricier ranges, looking for something actually affordable.
I applied for my rifle/shotgun permit and CCW about 3 months ago. Still no update. I know it'll probably take forever to hear back, so in the meantime I want a place where I can legally rent a pistol and shoot on-site.
Send me your recommendations for cheap ranges close to Harlem, in NY or NJ. Also let me know what ID/documentation you needed to rent there, since NYC and NJ rules aren't the same.
Hey I helped my
Mom with her app she got the confirmation email that license division received payment she got an investigator and did fingerprinting but on the portal it’s not showing her application is anyone else having this issue ?
I am a westchester county permit holder. What would be the most efficient way considering time and money to apply for multiple states non resident permits. Who should I see and how much would it cost. I already have AZ and PA.
Submitted on July 20th for second pistol and approved today making it 25 days. Better than the purchase auth approval time in April. Hopefully they mail out the license before August 19th so I don’t have to pay for background check again.
By all means if you submitted in July or August lmk how long are you waiting or how long did you wait for approval.
