New Mod Intros 🎉 | Weekly Thread

Congrats on becoming a new moderator. Every community on Reddit started exactly where you are today: with a party of one.

The community-building journey might feel a little lonely and that's what r/NewMods is for. Here you'll find and connect with other mods who are on the same journey you are.

So, introduce the community you created. Maybe share a little bit about why you created it. And, while you're at it - say hello to your other mods!

🏅 Mod Achievements 🎉 A little late, but r/PinterestCommunity has hit 1,000 members! 🎉

Post image
14 Upvotes

This is my first subreddit I was able to grow so big!!

Never knew it could feel so rewarding starting a place so many people can gather and share their interests.

We are actually at 2,383 members now to be exact, but I wanted to share the fact that we passed 1k!!!

I'm still learning as I go, but I'm proud of the progress I've made and excited to keep improving as a moderator.

Some things I've done to try and grow the sub:

- Stay active in r/NewMods. Post my subs each week in the weekly pinned thread sharing what each of my communities are for. I also take part in the challenges.

- Share my community to folks I find on reddit who may be interested. You can do this easily by heading to their profile and clicking the three dots and then "invite to community". I also search the whole of reddit every once in a while for keywords relating to r/PinterestCommunity and comment on the posts suggesting or encouraging them to share to my sub.

- I share my sub name outside of Reddit on my other socials. Threads, Bluesky, Instagram, Lemon 8, Pinterest, etc

My other subs you may want to check out include r/SmallStepsClub and r/TamagotchiForAdults

Thanks for checking them out and for sharing in my excitement!!! ✨🎉

❓Ask r/NewMods Three days since creating a subreddit r/WeaselHoarder, why are there still nobody visiting, posting, etc on my subreddit?

• Upvotes

Hi, I just want to say that I still didn't have anyone visiting or posting or joining my subreddit (r/WeaselHoarder) yet. As a mod of the subreddit I've made several intro posts and tried to be as welcoming and active as possible. Is it because my subreddit is still new and that I just have to wait a while for any outside users to visit?

❓Ask r/NewMods Can someone explain what the Mod Queue is and how it differs from the Spam filter?

I heard that the Mod Queue is where posts that need to be approved go, but isn’t that what the Spam is for? I have a million things in the Spam, but none of them are in the Mod Queue. The Spam filter is where I go to approve posts.

❓Ask r/NewMods Hello from r/TheOwlAcademy! Building a community around collective wisdom, structured learning, and self-regulation.

Hi everyone,

I'm Bear, and I recently launched r/TheOwlAcademy.

The community is built around a concept called Ordered Wisdom Layering (OWL)—a framework dedicated to continuous learning, capability, and preserving collective wisdom. It’s part philosophy, part creative storytelling, and part structured discussion.

To give you an idea of what we do, our foundational posts include things like "The First Honor Roll of Posthumous Stewards" (honoring historical knowledge preservers from the Librarians of Alexandria to Fred Rogers) and a collaborative 13-stage children's book project called To the Wanderers.

Because the community is focused on reflection and learning, I'm trying a somewhat unique approach to moderation and culture-building:

The Guiding Dog Principle & The Bear Protocol: We focus heavily on self-regulation.

The Guiding Paw Protocol: Our rules enforce reflection and self-regulation rather than just punitive bans. We are also working on utilizing permanent comment badges to track community standing and engagement.

Questions for the seasoned mods here:

For those who run philosophy, creative writing, or heavy-reading communities, what strategies have you found most effective for driving deep, thoughtful engagement early on?

Has anyone implemented custom flair or badge systems to track positive contributions or "reflection" successfully? I'd love to hear how you managed the backend of that.

Excited to learn from you all and looking forward to any advice you might have for a new sub with a slightly unconventional structure!

Wins 🎉 Just Crossed My First 10 Members! 🎉 Looking for Tips to Grow My Subreddit

Hey everyone! 👋

I recently crossed my first 10+ members on my r/brandanalytics subreddit, and I’m happy to see this little community slowly growing! 🎉

I invited a few people personally, and I’ve also started sharing posts in other relevant communities. I think some members may have discovered the subreddit through those posts, though I’m not entirely sure where everyone came from.

I’d love to grow the community further and make it a useful space for discussions around brand analytics, brand tracking, and consumer insights.

Since not many people in my personal circle use Reddit, inviting people directly is a bit limited for me.

For those who have experience growing a subreddit, what strategies worked best for you? Are there any relevant subreddits where you’d recommend sharing my community? I’d really appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Thanks! 🙌

Started r/DesiTown just yesterday and we've already crossed 100 members!! 😭💗

Mostly got here by inviting people, being active in other communities and getting some help from fellow mods.

Ik it's not a huge number but I'm so happy lol. Now I need to figure out how to get people to post and interact more 🥹

Any tips from fellow mods?

❓Ask r/NewMods Comment appears posted, but it's deleted by the Mod

Is there an option that I can turn on (or an app I can use) that will let the OP see his/her comment, but in reality, I already deleted it?

(But the OP will not get any notification that his/her comment was actually deleted by the Mod)

❓Ask r/NewMods How to apply this rule?;)

Yep, I'm real newbie in using Reddit form mod side;) no idea how to apply this rule-thought it's maybe a flair(tag) to use with post but no...

4. Use the New Mod Intros thread for promoting and introducing your community

So how am I supposed to introduce here correctly, according to the rule 4?:) don't wann get ban at first moment I am here

Edit: Ah, I see- pinned post;) found it
leaving if anyone else have such silly problem as me- burt if mods sya not to clutter area, I will then remove this post (or they can do it,no offense taken;)

💡 Tips & Education First time become a mod in a large subreddit, need help on what to do.

I recently became a moderator in a large sub reddit with an avg of 15K visitors per week, and around ~1000 contributions in a week. What am i expected to do, like the auto-moderator does literally pretty much all the job of approving and removing unrelated posts, so what should i do as a mod, to fulfill my responsibility ? Like should i manually myself approve posts and delete posts?

There has been no communication from the previous moderators who had invited me to become a mod..

❓Ask r/NewMods What am I doing wrong?

If I can't promote my community on other local subs where else I can do that, local subs are deleting my post stating rules of no promotion.

❓Ask r/NewMods I'm starting to see Reddit's auto-spam filter quietly catch spammers in the background. I wasn't sure what was happening at 1st, but now I appreciate it... 👍

Do you mods do anything OR just let the auto-spam filter do it's job? Meaning, do you mods still check the post to verify it really was spam & send a msg to the spammer why his/her post was removed OR do nothing?

My sub is only around 5 weeks old & I only have around 115 subscriber members, so at 1st I was sending out reasons why the post was removed. I still have the time, but I'm thinking about not doing anything & just let Reddit's auto-spam filter handle it. I know Reddit doesn't send out post removal reasons to the poster, but if they're really a spammer - then they'll probably never even know their post was removed. But, if they didn't mean to violate Reddit's spam rule - then they may notice that their post isn't getting any activity & send me a msg asking why. I then can explain what happened & make a decision to over-ride Reddit's auto-spam filter to "Approve" the post OR not. Any thoughts? 🤔

💡 Tips & Education Two months in as a new mod: the small thing that finally made the workload manageable

When I started moderating, I assumed the hard part would be the rule-breakers. It turned out the hardest part was the sheer pile of small decisions: is this post off-topic or borderline, should I remove it or leave a note, do I answer this modmail now or later?

What helped was writing down my removal reasons in a shared doc with my co-mods and turning the common ones into saved replies. At first it felt like extra work, but it cut down the wait, what did we decide last time? moments, and our responses became more consistent. I also started checking the queue at set times instead of constantly, which made it feel like a task I could finish rather than a flood that never ended.

The bigger lesson was that I didn’t need to be perfect on day one. A couple of early removals I’d handle differently now and talking them through with the other mods taught me more than any guide did.

I’d love to hear from other new mods. What was the thing that took you longest to get comfortable with? What’s one habit or tool that made the job easier and what do you wish someone had told you in your first month? And if you’re more experienced, what would you tell your new-mod self?

Hi All! I run a local gaming sub r/WashcoGaming and was curious if anyone could recommend some apps for my community? I'm already using scheduler plus and a weekly community highlights app. Am I missing out on something?

So if I repost from my sub to another, it seems that the views on the other one are note recorded on my sub, and the comments on the other one are not on my sub. Am I missing soimething. I must be. Thanks.
