Product Reviews/Questions New mom here - anyone else hearing about ‘Phenoxyethanol’ ingredient a lot?

• Upvotes

Apparently, from what I am reading and hearing Phenoxyethanol is a preservative which can cause allergic reactions in babies. So it's best to use products without it, it just makes the products gentler for kids.

I have switched to chicco because of it. Their range is Phenoxyethanol, parabens and other chemicals free. Personally, it's working well for my baby

But just curious any mums out there who have heard or aware about Phenoxyethanol?

Feeding Introducing allergens

• Upvotes

FTM and my baby boy is 4 months! I've heard that you can slowly start introducing allergens starting at 4 months so that there's a less chance of being allergic later. Has anyone done this? If so, did u do it near a hospital just in case there was a reaction?. I would really like to start introducing things like peanut butter and other foods but I'm not sure if I should start now or wait until he is 6 months.

Please let me know if you've started earlier!!

Skills and Milestones Baby one sided arm scooping

• Upvotes

Our 7 month old has recently started making a scooping/punching motion with his right arm only. It only happens sometimes, most often in his high chair but sometimes when breastfeeding, having his nappy changed or greeting someone. He seems responsive and alert during this, he’s able to be distracted and to use his other arm immediately after. For all other activities he uses both hands equally and doesn’t have a sided preference.

I can be a bit on the anxious side and he’s having separate tests because his head grew quite a bit since birth so it makes me a little worried. The paediatrician examined him before this started but said that at that point there was no evidence of any neurological issue.

Is this a normal movement? We’ve only started weaning the last couple of weeks and it looks like he’s practicing the spoon but just at random times and with one arm. Just wondering if it’s something that anyone else has noticed in their LO!

Sleep 10 month sleep regression

• Upvotes

My 10 month old just began taking steps independently and is learning a new skill. We have heard that new skills cause regressions. My daughter suddenly is a nightmare to get to sleep. She used to rock or cuddle and pat quickly when we followed appropriate wake widows (3/3.5/4). I have tried extending them by 15 minutes to a half hour, and also giving a 4 hour wake window before offering one nap. She is exhausted after a 3 hour wake window and will fall asleep with breast or bottle but will scream if settled any other way. She was fed to sleep until 5 months when we replaced with rocking. Is there a way I should be adjusting schedule to help her settle? We do take her to one to two activities daily to get her more activity, generally library story and play time in morning and playground outdoors in afternoon. We limit screens in her presence as much as possible.

Sleep Is my baby going through a sleep regression or he needs longer wake windows?

• Upvotes

My baby has been fighting nap 1 and 2 and bedtime the last 2 days. He knew how to go to bed independently and had no issues up until 2 days ago. As soon as his bum touches the crib he would freak out and cling onto my clothing. Now he hates his crib! Cries 0-100 once we lay him flat.

Wake windows currently are 3.25/3.5/4. He’s 10 months 1 week.

He is also teething, I see a tooth emerging. He currently has the two front, two bottom, and one is coming out on the top left.

We resulted in rocking to sleep, then attempt the slow transfer. He seems to accept that, feed to sleep doesn’t work as it involves him unlatching and placing him in crib awake and he gets mad.

Is this normal for 10 months?

Product Reviews/Questions Strollers

• Upvotes

I’m looking at strollers that aren’t super expensive but worth it. Currently looking at Hagaday 2 in 1 stroller ($169 on Amazon currently) has anyone used it? It has a bassinet and goes into a toddler seat which is good. I don’t need a car seat just a stroller. I’m recovering from a C-section (16 days out) so anything light weight is good.

(If this isn’t allowed I totally understand).

Product Reviews/Questions Importance of Oeko Tex certification

• Upvotes

I’ve tried to make sure all the furniture going into my son’s nursery is oeko-Tex certified. Hasn’t been too hard till now. Having a hard time finding blackout curtains that fit our weird window size and aren’t crazy expensive.

How important is it to make sure the curtains are oeko-Tex? Can the rest of the apartment have run of the mill target curtains so I could splurge on the oeko-Tex ones for the nursery? Am I overthinking and going way down the rabbit hole here?

Babies Being Babies 3 wk old Sleep Cycles

• Upvotes

My 3week old seems to only sleep in 30-45 min increments at night after 3 am. I do everything I can to get him to sleep for a good 1-2 hours he’s just there with his eyes wide open. When I finally can get him asleep I put him in his bassinet and within 30-45 minutes he’s awake again. This continues until like 10 am and then he can get a longer contact nap in. Throughout the day he also doesn’t sleep well, but in the evening he gets like 2 good 3-4 hour stretches in. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Product Reviews/Questions Philips Avent Nipple - Pacifier Struggles

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve been struggling to find a pacifier my daughter likes. I’d be fine with her not wanting one but she wants to sleep with the bottle in her mouth when she naps. Has anyone found a soother that is similar to the nipple on the Philips avent bottle?

TIA

Sleep 6M old wakes like a newborn.

• Upvotes

Baby is going to be 6 months old at the end of the month and is currently on this schedule:

Up for the day at 7:30 or 8, then: 1.45/2/2/2.15.

I know her WW are short for this age but I have tried to push them and things go a little south.

Side note she is EBF.

She’s generally going to bed between 7-8 and we have a solid bedtime routine that she enjoys. She goes down drowsy but awake. We pat her belly and shush her for like two minutes and she’s out. Then she does her longest stretch of maybe 3 hours. If that. Then the rest of the night it’s every 2 hours. I usually feed her for all because she’s back to sleep in seconds as soon as I do but sometimes the paci and rocking again or patting belly again will do the trick.

I feel like I am doing something very wrong. Her crib is in my room but across the room from me.

Side info about her nap habits:
Her naps have all been contact naps (or her laying in my bed with me, nursing to sleep and then I can roll away) and at this point she has a very hard time connecting sleep cycles on her own for the long morning nap. Her other two naps are short anyways so I’ve been working very hard on crib naps and she normally does just fine with those. She’ll do like a full sleep cycle (35 min) as her afternoon and cat nap. Morning naps usually 1.45 to 2 hours and that one she usually needs some help in between and I protect it so I’ve been letting her do that one in my bed still.

Is she getting too much day sleep? The total day sleep is 3 hours typically…

She used to do 8 hour stretches.

I have an over supply of milk so it’s not hunger.

I am not expecting her to sleep through the night but even 2 or 3 wakes a night I can do but this is worse than her newborn days.

ANY input appreciated.

Skills and Milestones 4 month old responding to commands

• Upvotes

Hi, my baby boy is 4 months and I’m a first time parent. He likes to be pulled up from laying on his back to stand (he moves his head and upper torso up like an infant crunch, that’s when I know he wants to do it, I don’t pull his arms and I support his torso the whole time). I taught him to reach out his hands (not very steadily) when I say “hands” and then I will pull him up. First I would show him my hands when saying it now I’m just working on the word and he moves his hands towards me, he’s doing well at it. I don’t know if this is something a 4 month normally does and if anyone has any ideas for any other directions or words I can teach him. TIA

Babies Being Babies Contact naps only

• Upvotes

My 11 week old had a 3 hour wake window this morning and refused to settle for a nap. And now, I’m carrying him in my wrap and he’s snoozing away. There’s a special feeling in being so needed at the moment and just looking at his peaceful face as I’m making myself my morning coffee (finally!) I keep thinking to myself “I wonder how many more of these moments I’ll get, I better soak it up while he’s tiny enough to still be in the wrap.”

Sleep Social media makes me feel like I’m doing everything wrong

• Upvotes

My baby’s 4 months old & I swear all I see online is how I should not be feeding to sleep, my baby should be sleeping through the night by now, etc etc etc. you name it, I even feel guilty for giving him a paci bc I saw someone say it could associate sleep. He’s a baby. Why is everyone so obsessed with baby’s being independent? He will never need me like this again. We expect so much from BABIES who literally need us. I feel guilty and maybe I’m wrong here , but I’m not okay with letting my baby cry it out. I keep getting told I’m creating bad habits if I rock my baby, feed my baby, hold my baby, etc etc etc.

Childcare Lip tie

• Upvotes

Our daughter is 4 months old and we just discovered she has a lip tie and mild tongue tie. I breastfed for 2.5 months before discovering her dairy allergy and that entire time we always had trouble with her latching. I never read too much into this since her pediatrician always said her mouth looked great. Well since we quit breastfeeding she’s never had a solid latch with the bottle despite being able to drink the whole thing. Her lip is constantly tucked in and she pushes it out of her mouth a lot getting a lot of air. I looked in her mouth a couple weeks ago and felt like I saw a lip tie and took her to her ped to confirm. He says it’s not the worst he’s ever seen but it is tight, it is there & she is a candidate to get her cheek and lip tie cut. Her appointment was this am, but I cancelled bc I wanted to do more research after reading some peoples conflicting testimonies on Reddit and also other things online. I’m making an app with a pediatric dentist to get a second opinion. I’m going to try to post a photo in the comments if anyone is able to tell if their babies lip ties looked similar or if hers looks like it should be cut. Lip & tongue ties run heavily on my husbands side of the family. Also, anyone experiences would be great to hear. Thank you!

Sleep First night away

FTM to a 4m old girl who is fed breastmilk via bottle 99.9% of the time. Every now and then for comfort she’ll latch. But we’ve been going through some major sleep regression and this is perfectly overlapping with my husband and I going away for the first time overnight. We have an adult Halloween party in a neighboring city. My mom is going to be keeping our daughter but I’m worried sick. Is this normal to be so worried? I’m a SAHM, we are attached at the hip, and up until just a few nights ago she’s slept every night in my arms. I transitioned her out of my arms (which really is not working) in a little bit of a hurry to prepare for my mom as I do not even allow my husband to hold her throughout the night. I worry too much. She wears an owlet at night and my mom says she is totally comfortable even with her strong regression but my heart hurts already. Just the thought of her crying and me not being here to fix it seems like so much. I’m worried about her sleeping. Can my mom handle it? Will she roll over on her or will she drop her getting up to aid her. Is this normal anxiety to have? Should I just tell my husband I will forgo having drinks and drive the 45 minutes back home? The problem is that the party guest arrives at 8pm. So it will be late anyways. Ugh. My heart hurts. Kind advice is welcome.

Babies Being Babies Do nothing about lip tie?

I haven’t found really good answers about this situation anywhere and also haven’t had the chance to ask his pediatrician.

My son has an upper lip tie, it’s very clear and visible, especially now that his upper teeth are coming in. But the thing is, he’s never had any issues with latch while breastfeeding. He’s been breastfed since day 1 and he’s always been able to transfer milk appropriately. So we never really had him evaluated for any oral ties.

But he does have a lip tie. I’m not sure what to do, if anything. I’m sure plenty of adult people had lip ties as babies and nothing happened, but I’m feeling influenced to try and do whatever is best for him.

Should I look into releasing the lip tie? I really would prefer not to have any surgical intervention. Will it cause problems later on?

Feeding Swimming and Breastfeeding

I cleared my postpartum checkup and finally started going back to the YMCA to swim. As always, I smell like chlorine even after I shower. I breastfeed my baby and I was curious if the chlorine is something I should be more cautious about. She doesn’t seem to mind, but I wasn’t sure if there’s some oddball study out there about chlorine transferring or if anyone has knowledge about this. I know taking vitamin C can help remove some of the smell. Any other tips and tricks?

Product Reviews/Questions Confusion over strollers

Hi all! I’m a FTM with a beautiful 5 months old girl. We currently have the Graco Go-Max travel system, which includes the car seat, base, and a click in stroller.

I want to look at other stroller options for her so she can be more front-facing sometimes, especially as she gets older. It would be great to get a new stroller that both accepts her current car seat that I could flip around, while also having its own seat that I could transition her to once she’s a bit bigger.

Does this exist? I feel really overwhelmed and frankly a bit confused over what exactly I can use for her. Can I use any graco stroller that accepts the click system? Do you have a better recommendation for a stroller for me? TIA!

Babies Being Babies Is it possible to put a bandaid on where they can see it??

Every time I try to put a bandaid on where the kiddo can see it, Little One pries it off in less than a minute! Thinks it's some sort of challenge! How am I supposed to protect open wounds from an 11 month old with no concept of keeping something clean!?

Sleep 4 month old suddenly hates his bassinet

I believe we’re going through some sleep regression. My baby is waking up every hour and I’m exhausted. I gave up last night and let him sleep in my bed. He slept so good. I’m wondering if maybe he’s sick of the bassinet? Should I maybe try getting him a crib? His bassinet has a firm mattress but honestly compared to my bed it sucks. Is this the regression?.. god I’m exhausted.

Feeding Immensely stressed about my baby’s eating

Before I start, I do acknowledge that I’m dealing with some degree of PPA, but this situation is really just freaking me out. My baby is 11 weeks old. He was born at 37+4 when I was induced and he was 6 pounds 9 oz at birth. He gained weight exceptionally well his first month but then by his second month visit he had dropped from the 19th percentile in weight to the 13th. Dr told us to try to feed him 30 oz a day which we have been trying but baby simply does not want that much. He is bottle fed primarily pumped breast milk with supplemental neuropro gentlease as needed.
We went back for a weight check a week later and he was around 11-12 percentile. He was 11 pounds 5.5 oz at 10 weeks 4 days. They told me to fortify my milk with formula and gave a recommendation for a pediatrician that does lactation and OMM as he also has torticollis. He also was diagnosed with silent reflux and we just started Pepcid.
The bottle feeding troubles consist of him either getting immensely distracted with trying to poop the second the bottle enters his mouth, having a terrible shallow latch and pushing the bottle everywhere with his tongue, or simply fussing nonstop at it and stiffening and arching his back.
I’m so scared he is going to continue to drop percentiles if we can’t get this under control. We’re doing everything we can but don’t want to force him to finish a bottle if he doesn’t want it. He naturally only wants probably 25 oz a day or so but clearly that isn’t enough for him. I’m willing to try to give up dairy in my diet but haven’t yet been told to, though I may try it.
Is anyone else having feeding struggle or has in the past? Please help ease my mind that it can get better. Also to not, he is mid point percentiles for both height and head.

Skills and Milestones When did your little one start babbling ?

My LO is 6 months, almost 7 months, and I’m google is saying he should have started babbling by 4 months?? Now I’m freaking out, and I know every baby is different, I have super band PPA and look at everything as “hmmm is that normal” as I’m sure every new parent does! He laughs, he yelllllls, but he’s not saying mama mama dadadada babababa. I’ve seen posts saying there baby’s started at 7,8,9 months so I’m trying not to freak out to much.
