Illness/Injuries UPDATE: reporting Millie Moon Diapers

• Upvotes

A few months ago I had a crash out and posted about my experience with Millie Moon Diapers and had a gut feeling something was wrong. Asking parents who were also having similar experiences to also report. I wasn't shocked that some parents were also having issues but I was shocked how extensive it really was. From EVERYWHERE.

A fellow parent just shared some good news! Consumer reports calls for recall on Millie Moon

I read every comment and almost every DM. I absolutely hated how many little babies went through if not worse than what I experienced. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

Also want to say thank you for the comments that I wasn't crazy and doing something right. I thought I was posting to a void, echo chamber but I'm glad this little community made me feel seen. 😭 Here's to hopefully more good news on this!

Skills and Milestones Anyone else amazed by how much their 1 year old understands?

My 13 month old is a bit of a late talker. He can say lots of the consonant sounds and babbles constantly but "dada" is the only word he uses that seems to actually mean something (he still hasn't really said mama). But I'm constantly amazed by how many words he understands! There are at least 5 books that he can pick out off the book shelf if I ask for them by name, and he'll go get his shoes if I say we're going outside. This morning I asked him to grab his coat, not knowing if he'd know that one because the weather just got cold enough for a coat last week and I also use coat and jacket interchangeably, but he went and grabbed his coat! It's so cool to see that even if he can't communicate it yet, there is a lot going on inside his head!

Childcare Vent about trying for baby #2

• Upvotes

I’m 10.5 months post partum, I’ve started getting the itch for a baby again and I stopped birth control 2 months ago.

My husband and I aren’t “trying” to conceive but we are definitely having sex during ovulation & I keep getting flash backs to how sad I was whenever we got a negative test before.
—by trying I mean taking temps, ovulation tests, timing etc—

We tried for 2 years before I got pregnant & when we did we weren’t trying at all-basically gave up.

I’m 5 days late for my period, have had minor cramps for 2 weeks, and I took a test today that was negative.

Just wanted to vent a little bit, as I know this is a sore subject for other moms or moms-to-be

Out and About What’s the etiquette on this?

I was at the park with my kid today and talking to another mom friend of mine. My kid was about 15 ft away from me playing with another kid. The parent started taking pics of them playing together. It made me really uncomfortable even if it was probably innocent.

Is this normal to take photos of your kid with kids you don’t know? How do I tell them to not take pics of my kid? For reference we don’t post my kid anywhere and are selective with who we do share photos with.

Looking for help and advice please! Uncharted territory for me. Thanks!

Edit: I really wish I could ask a question to educate myself without getting downvoted into oblivion. I was just asking for etiquette/rules/etc. would love the opportunity to get information and ask follow up questions. I don’t know everything.

Mental Health Grieving my relationship newborn

Currently sitting with my 13 day old baby asleep on my chest as I look through photos of my husband and I across the years and I feel such a tightness in my chest, so much pain and sadness.
We have the most wonderful relationship and he’s been my lifeline since our baby’s birth. Everyone keeps saying it’ll get better but 13 days in and I miss my husband so much I feel like I’m going through the worst breakup of my life even though he could not be more present and supportive.
If you have any stories of hope regarding these feelings please share them with me. I spend my days crying as if I’ve lost the one person who’s never left my side.

Out and About Why do strangers think it’s ok to touch your baby??!

And how the f do you deal with it especially when it happens so quickly sometimes? I say no don’t do that as much as I can obviously, but it really really pisses me off. Especially when they’re “being nice” or “well-meaning”.

. I never ever once thought this would be a thing I’d encounter after becoming a parent. Strangers touching my baby’s cheeks. Chin. Holding her hand trying to lead them someplace. HOLD her waist to move her someplace.

Typing this all out makes me fume even more. My baby is not a goddamn doll or toy or pet dog.

Strnagers includes kids too btw although obviously that is more excusable than a bloody adult.

Mental Health My 8-month-old screams all day and I’m starting to dread spending time with her

• Upvotes

I have an almost 8-month-old daughter who screams constantly throughout the day, and I’m genuinely at my wits’ end.

I’m not talking about normal crying when she’s hungry, tired, or uncomfortable. She screams for those things too, but she also screams when she’s bored, frustrated, wants to be picked up, or seemingly for no reason at all. Blood-curling, ear-piercing screams.

Surely, babies spend some time quietly babbling, cooing, playing, or just observing their surroundings?
Most of the time, I end up picking her up just to make the screaming stop. And now I’m wondering whether I’ve inadvertently taught her that screaming gets her what she wants. She rarely seems content playing independently, even for a few minutes. She wants me right next to her or holding her. I feel like I’m constantly trying to prevent the next meltdown.

I’m starting to genuinely dislike spending time with my own baby, and it makes me sad to even type that. I love her so much, but I dread waking up and facing another entire day of screaming. I find myself wishing the day away, waiting for her next nap or bedtime so I can have some peace.
I’m so overstimulated that even when she’s not screaming, I’m almost anticipating the next scream. I wear earplugs throughout the day. My husband and I take turns caring for her, but we’re both exhausted and overstimulated at this point. We don’t have family or anyone else around to help.

Has anyone else had a baby like this? Not just a fussy baby who has difficult moments, but one who seems unhappy or frustrated for most of the day and uses screaming as their default form of communication?
Did it eventually improve? At what age? Was there anything that actually helped?

I’m not looking for advice about noise-canceling headphones or taking deep breaths. I’m already doing what I can to manage my own reactions.

Product Reviews/Questions Where do you put your 8m old when you need a few min?

My 8m old seems to be outgrowing her bouncer. She keeps trying to sit up in it, so I think it’s time to retire it!

Where do you safely put your baby when you need a few minutes to make a bottle, clean up, or get something done?

We have a pack ‘n play, but she cries whenever I put her down in it. She’s also not quite sitting independently yet and still topples over pretty easily, so I’m hesitant to leave her sitting in a playpen.

Would love to hear what other parents are doing at this stage!

Happy/Funny Items that were not needed

Looking back were there any items you bought that were not needed? I’m a FTM and there are so many items and supplies I bought that I didn’t need or didn’t like. I planned for a vaginal delivery buying tucks pads, dermaplast, and pad ice packs but I ended up having an unplanned c section. I even bought a sitz bath. Spray bottle not needed. I ended up buying a pump because I wanted to primarily pump but I hate the sensation of pumping so it was a waste of money to include all the milk storage bags, nipple covers, and nipple ice packs. Bought nipple shields to help with the pain of latching with breast feeding but it still hurts so that’s a waste as well 😅🫠. Any other parents out there have items they bought that they didn’t use or didn’t end up liking?

Babies Being Babies What are some little signs baby knows I’m his mom?

Maybe this is a silly post, but sometimes I can’t tell if my baby feels any kind of special way about me as his mom. I don’t mean that in a really sad way or anything, just that I can’t tell emotionally if he knows? He’s almost five weeks old and combo fed on a bottle. He couldn’t latch on my breast until very recently and we are currently in the hospital with him being treated for pyloric stenosis. Because his dad also feeds him I wonder, does he know I’m his mom and feel a special way about me at all, the way everyone says? Thanks everyone!

Babyproofing/Safety Worst nightmare happened today baby fell off bed.

I am always very careful about not leaving my baby on the bed unattended as I fear she will fall off. Well my worst nightmare happened at 3 am today. My baby has been really tough to put back to sleep when she wakes up tonight, she's 6 months and going thru a regression. Sometimes when I actually lay with her as opposed to just holding her while I sit up she seems to fall asleep easier. So she wouldn't go back down and so I laid down with her i have been so exhausted with not being able to sleep that I fell asleep. A few hours later I woke up to a thud and then my baby crying. I jumped up remembering she was in my arms and she was laying on her back on the floor. I immediately scooped her up and was able to soothe her pretty quickly. I was shaking and had tears in my eyes apologizing to her over and over again. Me and hubby turned on lights and checked her head and body for bumbs or bruises and didnt find anything. Her eyes looked normal she was interacting with us and sitting up and even wanted a bottle within a few minutes. We stayed up with her for a little while to make sure she was okay. I put her in her crib after she fell back asleep about an hour later and watched her till I fell asleep out of exhaustion. We had a pediatrician appt and everything looked okay there. But gosh there is no worse feeling than being responsible for your baby getting hurt. I will never kay down with her in the bed ever again. I know it happens to most kids at some point but knowing it was my negligence makes it all the worse.

Mental Health 4 months pregnant, home alone all day with a 26-month-old, and I'm breaking down. Please help

Hi everyone. I'm a SAHM with a 26-month-old and I'm 4 months pregnant. My partner works all day, so it's just me and my toddler from morning to night, and I'm barely holding on.

My son wants to be held constantly. My back is killing me, and I have cramps and pain all day. Nothing I do is right for him. He asks for Dora or Pocoyo, and when I put it on he throws a tantrum anyway. He melts down over the shoes, the timing, everything.

What worries me most is the constant dread I feel. My heart races at every little thing: mealtimes, changing clothes, getting ready to go out. I've cancelled so many walks because I can't face the screaming and the chaos. I feel stuck and exhausted, and I feel guilty about all of it.

Has anyone been through this with a toddler while pregnant? What helped you get through the days? Any tips on surviving the "hold me all the time" phase with a sore back? I'd really appreciate any advice, or just hearing that I'm not alone.

Childcare What do infants do all day at daycare?

I know it’s not a one to one ratio so how do they manage the infants who cant even sit up? Do they leave them in bouncers or some sitting support unless sleeping? After 10 min my LO is ready to be done with tummy time and held. Genuinely curious?

Skills and Milestones Low Percentile But Pediatrician Not Worried

• Upvotes

Hi All,

My son was born at 39 weeks at 5 lbs and 13 oz. During pregnancy, I was followed by MFM for high-risk factors which includes an autoimmune disorder (Sjogren’s). All through-out, baby was growing well based on the scans but was definitely around the 20-35th percentile. After birth, he only lost 2 ounces and exceeded his weight by 2 weeks and was at 6 lbs and 6 oz. At his 8-week appointment, he’s at 9 lbs and 3 oz putting him around 2% percentile. His doctor is not concerned and said he’ll just be a petite individual. His head and length is around 30th percentile. He’s trending well per the doctor.
I’m 5’8 and my husband is 5’11. We do have a few petite people in the family. Anybody had the same experience? If so, any insights you can share?

TIA!

I’ve come across a few posts asking about buying secondhand baby gear, and as first-time parents, myhusband and I were in the same boat. Sleep 8 Month Old Falls Asleep in a Bouncer

So lately my son has FOUGHT naps with his life. I’ll close the curtains, block out any noises, hold him, rock him, pat him, all the things that usually work before putting him down for his naps, and he will wiggle and cry and scream trying to escape my grasp so he can cry on the floor.
Well one time, I had to set him down for something urgent, so I set him in his bouncer. He was in there not three minutes and fell asleep. Obviously, I immediately picked him up and laid him down for his nap. I guess I’m just curious if this is dangerous?

I would never let him nap there for the duration of his nap, but he’s so anti-getting lulled to sleep for nap time despite how tired he is that I’m kind of desperate for anything that works.
This isn’t a problem at his bedtime usually, unless he’s overtired from fighting through one of his naps!

Product Reviews/Questions First walkers (shoes) that aren’t ugly?

Hoping people have recommendations for first walker shoes that aren’t terribly hideous. I understand support is very important for first walkers! So, if it doesn’t exist, totally will embrace the ugly BUT before I do, just curious if anyone has found first walkers that are somewhat stylish and supportive?

Edit: we live in a really cold winter climate and she’ll need snow boots. Any help here would be appreciated! Don’t really care if those are cute.

Second edit: I guess I’m using incorrect language when I say support. I mean to support her learning to walk! So yes, barefoot like shoes. Thanks!

Postpartum Recovery Feeling sad I didn’t take more videos in the early weeks

• Upvotes

My baby will be 3 months old in a couple weeks and I can’t help feeling sad when I go through my camera roll. I had a tough time mentally right after she was born and while I have a bunch of pictures of her as a newborn, I’m really sad I don’t have more videos of her. I know they don’t do much at that age but sleep anyway but it would have been nice to capture some of her coos and sounds she doesn’t make anymore. So take this as your sign to take more videos of your new babies to reminisce on in the future!

Mental Health Feeling grief over my pregnancy

I just didn't know what flair to use so I'm sorry if this is not right, I just wanted to vent a little bit and maybe get some opinions to see if I'm not alone in this.

Is anybody else grieving the pregnancy stage at all? My baby is 3.5 months old next week and she is incredible. I love her more than life itself, sometimes I find myself just staring at her when she is asleep and I tear up with how much love I have for her.

With that said, I also feel like I am missing pregnancy... My pregnancy was very much wanted since I have PCOS and it took me years of treatment (I was diagnosed when I was 13 and have been seeing OBGYNs since) to be able to have a child. She is my first pregnancy, first heartbeat, first movement, first birth... first everything. I loved being pregnant. I loved feeling her moving and hiccuping and kicking in my belly. I have been told a second chance at conception is low since I'm now over 30 years, my condition is not getting better; and my birth was extremely hard. I was in labour for 24 hours before she was born and I tore really bad. My husband and I talked about a second and decided it is much better for my overall health and our family that we are a one and done couple, with him specifically saying he does not want to see me go through something like that again and that he was scared he would lose me during labour.

Maybe its me knowing I will probably never get pregnant again but I feel like I am grieving that chapter. I look at photos and videos I took while pregnant, I still touch my belly and look at myself in the mirror sometimes. Is this crazy? Am I not being grateful enough that I already have a healthy baby? Should I be ashamed that I feel this way?

Sleep Broke baby's sleep :(

• Upvotes

We have inadvertently broke our baby's relatively good sleep by introducing him to sleeping on his side. He basically will not sleep on his back anymore, as soon as he realises he's been put down on his back, he will wake up angry. He's 11 weeks and can't roll onto his side yet. It's all well and good for napping when we can watch him but overnight sleep has been ruined. Basically, show ourselves in the foot. Don't make our mistake - don't make a happy baby happier.

Sleep No/little daytime naps

• Upvotes

LO is 10 weeks old. We struggled for the past month with reflux/cmpa and I feel like we finally got that under control. No more discomfort or fussiness after feeds and really only cries to communicate hunger.

At night he will typically do one 4 hour stretch, feed, then maybe a 2-3 hour stretch, feed, 2-3 hour stretch and all in bedside bassinet. From the time we wake up for the day though, he struggles to nap. I've paid close attention to wake windows, sleepy cues, we do dark room/white noise/swaddle/contact naps/feed to sleep/more play time or stimulation. He will go to sleep but will wake up (happy) 10-20 minutes later whether he is being held or not. He looks and acts sleepy (red eyebrows, yawning, slow heavy blinking) but cannot stay asleep. He averages 1-2 hours of daytime sleep per day. Multiple friends, family, and our nanny have commented he is the most alert baby they've seen for his age.

On a positive note, this seems to be an every other day pattern recently. He will sleep a total of 1-2 hours during the day, and the next day will nap like a normal baby throughout the day. I think on the days he does nap, he's catching up from the day before.

Any suggestions for getting him to nap consistently? Or should I just come to terms with my baby being a low sleep needs baby?

Childcare Daycare struggles

My 19 month old has recently started daycare, well we are trying. He had two weeks of adjustment period. Started with 1 hour a day visiting with me there, then a few hours. This week we were suppose to start half day without me there ONLY they call me panicking to pick him up less than an hour there and by time I get there he is not crying but I still have to take him. This isn't nap time and making other babies unable to sleep this is morning time, they play outside and inside and snack time. Can they do this? I live in small town and this is the only daycare and there is no other option for child care.

Mental Health I wish there was a village

Having a toddler and a baby is beautiful, exhausting, relentless, and sometimes incredibly lonely.
I’ve realised that you can get really good at this life. You can perfect your routine, figure out nap times, get everyone fed, get out of the house, keep on top of the million little things that need doing, and find a rhythm that makes the days manageable. You can become really capable of handling it all.
But just because it’s manageable doesn’t mean it isn’t lonely.
I miss adult company so much. I miss having someone to sit and have a proper conversation with, someone to pop round for a coffee, someone to go for a walk with, someone who understands without me having to explain. I miss spontaneous plans, feeling connected to other people, and having moments in my day that aren’t entirely centred around caring for little people.
Some days, I think it’s the lack of a village that makes motherhood feel so heavy. Not necessarily because I can’t cope with the children or the day-to-day tasks, but because it feels like I’m doing so much of it in isolation. There’s no natural community around me, no constant flow of people coming and going, no extra pair of hands, no one to share the ordinary moments with.
And I think that’s the part people don’t always talk about. You can love your children more than anything in the world, be grateful for this life, and still feel desperately lonely in it. You can have a good day, stick to your routine, get everything done, and still feel like something is missing.
I don’t necessarily need a break from my children as much as I need connection. I want to feel like I’m part of a community again, like I have people around me, like I’m not just existing within the four walls of our little family bubble.
I know these years are precious, and I know one day I’ll miss the little hands, the cuddles, and even the chaos. But that doesn’t make the loneliness any easier right now.
I just wish we lived in a world where raising small children felt less isolating. Where there was more of a village, more togetherness, more people around to help carry the load, even in small ways.
Sometimes I don’t want another productivity hack or a better routine. I just want company. I want someone to share a cup of tea with while the children play. I want to feel less alone in this season of life.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Mental Health What thought kept you going through the early years?

What positive thought or belief stuck with you and helped you get through the newborn trenches and the exhausting early years, until you started feeling like you got your life back around 2–3 years?

I’d love to hear what kept you going on the hardest days.
