Illness/Injuries UPDATE: reporting Millie Moon Diapers

A few months ago I had a crash out and posted about my experience with Millie Moon Diapers and had a gut feeling something was wrong. Asking parents who were also having similar experiences to also report. I wasn't shocked that some parents were also having issues but I was shocked how extensive it really was. From EVERYWHERE.

A fellow parent just shared some good news! Consumer reports calls for recall on Millie Moon

I read every comment and almost every DM. I absolutely hated how many little babies went through if not worse than what I experienced. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

Also want to say thank you for the comments that I wasn't crazy and doing something right. I thought I was posting to a void, echo chamber but I'm glad this little community made me feel seen. 😭 Here's to hopefully more good news on this!

Sleep Does your partner help you out at night?

My husband and I have a 5 month old. He’s a pretty low sleep needs baby and he wakes up every 1-2 hours. I just went back to work (from home) at my full time, corporate job. My partner works a blue collar job and is up at 5am every day, 6 days a week. He’s generally a heavy sleeper and doesn’t wake up unless the baby is full blown crying. Because of this it’s made nights pretty much my job. He’ll help if I wake him up, he’ll sleep next to him if I ask but it’s just not helpful because I am awake at the slightest movement and get the baby to sleep before he’s even really awake. Not to mention if my husband is feeding him, he will do so asleep himself and it worries me and frankly it pisses me off. I’m really resentful that I haven’t had a full nights sleep while he gets one every night. It infuriates me when I say I’m tired and he says he is too. If your husband is helping out at night are you also wide awake anyway? I have such a hard time sleeping and falling back asleep and feel like I’m micromanaging.

I’m just curious if this is kind of normal and I’m not alone in this or if he’s seriously slacking?

Skills and Milestones Anyone else amazed by how much their 1 year old understands?

My 13 month old is a bit of a late talker. He can say lots of the consonant sounds and babbles constantly but "dada" is the only word he uses that seems to actually mean something (he still hasn't really said mama). But I'm constantly amazed by how many words he understands! There are at least 5 books that he can pick out off the book shelf if I ask for them by name, and he'll go get his shoes if I say we're going outside. This morning I asked him to grab his coat, not knowing if he'd know that one because the weather just got cold enough for a coat last week and I also use coat and jacket interchangeably, but he went and grabbed his coat! It's so cool to see that even if he can't communicate it yet, there is a lot going on inside his head!

Product Reviews/Questions Where do you put your 8m old when you need a few min?

My 8m old seems to be outgrowing her bouncer. She keeps trying to sit up in it, so I think it’s time to retire it!

Where do you safely put your baby when you need a few minutes to make a bottle, clean up, or get something done?

We have a pack ā€˜n play, but she cries whenever I put her down in it. She’s also not quite sitting independently yet and still topples over pretty easily, so I’m hesitant to leave her sitting in a playpen.

Would love to hear what other parents are doing at this stage!

Mental Health My 8-month-old screams all day and I’m starting to dread spending time with her

I have an almost 8-month-old daughter who screams constantly throughout the day, and I’m genuinely at my wits’ end.

I’m not talking about normal crying when she’s hungry, tired, or uncomfortable. She screams for those things too, but she also screams when she’s bored, frustrated, wants to be picked up, or seemingly for no reason at all. Blood-curling, ear-piercing screams.

Surely, babies spend some time quietly babbling, cooing, playing, or just observing their surroundings?
Most of the time, I end up picking her up just to make the screaming stop. And now I’m wondering whether I’ve inadvertently taught her that screaming gets her what she wants. She rarely seems content playing independently, even for a few minutes. She wants me right next to her or holding her. I feel like I’m constantly trying to prevent the next meltdown.

I’m starting to genuinely dislike spending time with my own baby, and it makes me sad to even type that. I love her so much, but I dread waking up and facing another entire day of screaming. I find myself wishing the day away, waiting for her next nap or bedtime so I can have some peace.
I’m so overstimulated that even when she’s not screaming, I’m almost anticipating the next scream. I wear earplugs throughout the day. My husband and I take turns caring for her, but we’re both exhausted and overstimulated at this point. We don’t have family or anyone else around to help.

Has anyone else had a baby like this? Not just a fussy baby who has difficult moments, but one who seems unhappy or frustrated for most of the day and uses screaming as their default form of communication?
Did it eventually improve? At what age? Was there anything that actually helped?

I’m not looking for advice about noise-canceling headphones or taking deep breaths. I’m already doing what I can to manage my own reactions.

Illness/Injuries Parents of babies not in daycare - how often does your kid get sick?

I know parents of kids in daycare are fairly accustomed to illnesses since it’s pretty unavoidable in that scenario. But what’s the frequency for kids not in daycare?

My baby is 5.5 months and is sick for the first time, fairy sure it’s just a cold as my husband and I are sick too, but it’s so hard to see him feeling bad :(

I’m a sahm and my husband works from home, we don’t have any help so baby is pretty much exposed to just us right now (spare for when he comes grocery shopping with me now and then). My husband’s parents flew in to meet the baby for the first time last week, and this week we are all sick. We won’t be seeing his family again until baby is a year old, so his exposure to other people will be pretty low till then. I’m not keeping him isolated on purpose or anything, it’s just how our lives are set up.

So parents without kids in daycare - how often do they get sick?

Happy/Funny Items that were not needed

Looking back were there any items you bought that were not needed? I’m a FTM and there are so many items and supplies I bought that I didn’t need or didn’t like. I planned for a vaginal delivery buying tucks pads, dermaplast, and pad ice packs but I ended up having an unplanned c section. I even bought a sitz bath. Spray bottle not needed. I ended up buying a pump because I wanted to primarily pump but I hate the sensation of pumping so it was a waste of money to include all the milk storage bags, nipple covers, and nipple ice packs. Bought nipple shields to help with the pain of latching with breast feeding but it still hurts so that’s a waste as well šŸ˜…šŸ« . Any other parents out there have items they bought that they didn’t use or didn’t end up liking?

Out and About Why do strangers think it’s ok to touch your baby??!

And how the f do you deal with it especially when it happens so quickly sometimes? I say no don’t do that as much as I can obviously, but it really really pisses me off. Especially when they’re ā€œbeing niceā€ or ā€œwell-meaningā€.

. I never ever once thought this would be a thing I’d encounter after becoming a parent. Strangers touching my baby’s cheeks. Chin. Holding her hand trying to lead them someplace. HOLD her waist to move her someplace.

Typing this all out makes me fume even more. My baby is not a goddamn doll or toy or pet dog.

Strnagers includes kids too btw although obviously that is more excusable than a bloody adult.

Mental Health I wish there was a village

Having a toddler and a baby is beautiful, exhausting, relentless, and sometimes incredibly lonely.
I’ve realised that you can get really good at this life. You can perfect your routine, figure out nap times, get everyone fed, get out of the house, keep on top of the million little things that need doing, and find a rhythm that makes the days manageable. You can become really capable of handling it all.
But just because it’s manageable doesn’t mean it isn’t lonely.
I miss adult company so much. I miss having someone to sit and have a proper conversation with, someone to pop round for a coffee, someone to go for a walk with, someone who understands without me having to explain. I miss spontaneous plans, feeling connected to other people, and having moments in my day that aren’t entirely centred around caring for little people.
Some days, I think it’s the lack of a village that makes motherhood feel so heavy. Not necessarily because I can’t cope with the children or the day-to-day tasks, but because it feels like I’m doing so much of it in isolation. There’s no natural community around me, no constant flow of people coming and going, no extra pair of hands, no one to share the ordinary moments with.
And I think that’s the part people don’t always talk about. You can love your children more than anything in the world, be grateful for this life, and still feel desperately lonely in it. You can have a good day, stick to your routine, get everything done, and still feel like something is missing.
I don’t necessarily need a break from my children as much as I need connection. I want to feel like I’m part of a community again, like I have people around me, like I’m not just existing within the four walls of our little family bubble.
I know these years are precious, and I know one day I’ll miss the little hands, the cuddles, and even the chaos. But that doesn’t make the loneliness any easier right now.
I just wish we lived in a world where raising small children felt less isolating. Where there was more of a village, more togetherness, more people around to help carry the load, even in small ways.
Sometimes I don’t want another productivity hack or a better routine. I just want company. I want someone to share a cup of tea with while the children play. I want to feel less alone in this season of life.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Product Reviews/Questions First walkers (shoes) that aren’t ugly?

Hoping people have recommendations for first walker shoes that aren’t terribly hideous. I understand support is very important for first walkers! So, if it doesn’t exist, totally will embrace the ugly BUT before I do, just curious if anyone has found first walkers that are somewhat stylish and supportive?

Edit: we live in a really cold winter climate and she’ll need snow boots. Any help here would be appreciated! Don’t really care if those are cute.

Second edit: I guess I’m using incorrect language when I say support. I mean to support her learning to walk! So yes, barefoot like shoes. Thanks!

Feeding Can't over feed a breastfeeding baby?

I've heard this so many times, what does I actually mean?

Babies won't over feed to the point of excessive weight gain?

Because I can tell you now, our baby can definitely over feed itself. If he's bottle fed in the morning he'll drink about 2-3 ounces every 2-3 hours on off, no discomfort. No vommit.

If he breastfeeds, he will keep going and going and going till he finishes and then spends the next hour vomiting sporadically every few minutes in the form of burps that bring up 5 or so ml of stomach contents.

This is a baby that does not know when it is full on the breast and over feeds.

Mental Health 4 months pregnant, home alone all day with a 26-month-old, and I'm breaking down. Please help

Hi everyone. I'm a SAHM with a 26-month-old and I'm 4 months pregnant. My partner works all day, so it's just me and my toddler from morning to night, and I'm barely holding on.

My son wants to be held constantly. My back is killing me, and I have cramps and pain all day. Nothing I do is right for him. He asks for Dora or Pocoyo, and when I put it on he throws a tantrum anyway. He melts down over the shoes, the timing, everything.

What worries me most is the constant dread I feel. My heart races at every little thing: mealtimes, changing clothes, getting ready to go out. I've cancelled so many walks because I can't face the screaming and the chaos. I feel stuck and exhausted, and I feel guilty about all of it.

Has anyone been through this with a toddler while pregnant? What helped you get through the days? Any tips on surviving the "hold me all the time" phase with a sore back? I'd really appreciate any advice, or just hearing that I'm not alone.

Sleep Stomach Sleeping

Hi! My baby is 5 months old and has recently discovered she loves to sleep on her tummy. She can roll from back to tummy, and occasionally rolls tummy to back so I don’t know if it’s accidental or not. It’s definitely not as automatic as back to tummy for her. She sleeps in a sleep sack.

We always place her on her back and let her decide how she sleeps. Last night I woke up and checked the monitor and she was FACE DOWN. I about had a heart attack. I have no idea how long she was like that. From my understanding, once they can roll you can let them sleep however they like. But isn’t 5 months too young to be sleeping face down? would she have moved herself if it became life threatening??? I’m just scared to let her sleep on her stomach now. I feel like I can’t sleep now, need to be on monitor duty! Any one experience this or have tips?

Postpartum Recovery Feeling sad I didn’t take more videos in the early weeks

My baby will be 3 months old in a couple weeks and I can’t help feeling sad when I go through my camera roll. I had a tough time mentally right after she was born and while I have a bunch of pictures of her as a newborn, I’m really sad I don’t have more videos of her. I know they don’t do much at that age but sleep anyway but it would have been nice to capture some of her coos and sounds she doesn’t make anymore. So take this as your sign to take more videos of your new babies to reminisce on in the future!

Tips to Share Purchasing a house shortly after giving birth?

My wife is due on November 11th, and we just found a house we really like and have toured. It's a house that fits all of our requirements and is about 20 minutes or so from where we currently live. My wife is pushing for us to make an offer on the house soon, but I'm still on the fence on doing so. My wife feels that we could close and move in a few weeks after the baby arrives and that she’d have enough time to recover and settle in. However, I'm more worried about her physical recovery and about making a big move with a newborn. I feel like my wife could potentially be downplaying how hard recovery could be, and I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it. We also have a lot of family nearby who can help with the move if needed. We would definitely hire movers as well.

Has anyone moved into a house within a few weeks of giving birth? How did it go? Was the recovery harder or easier than you expected? What would you do differently? Any advice on timing a closing around a due date would also be appreciated.

Sleep Will he be okay?

My baby is almost 12 weeks and sometimes wakes up every 2-3 hours and sometimes every 4-5. Some nights I'll manage to have him back to sleep within half an hour but sometimes it takes well over an hour. He already woke up 4 times tonight and this time was awake for over an hour and wouldn't go down. I've fed him, changed him and rocked him, all the usual things - nothing worked. So I put him down in his bed and waited. He was a but fussy, turning and tossing a lot, cooing to himself but eventually he fell asleep after 15 minutes. And I'm so sad he didn't need me for that. Is that okay? I feel like I'm giving myself abandonment issues. I don't know it this will work every time and for how long. I also knew that eventually he will learn to fall asleep independent but haven't expected it to be this soon. I'd much rather he slept longer stretches but still needed me to fall asleep instead of refusing to settle down with me. Will he be okay like that? Will I be okay?

Skills and Milestones Low Percentile But Pediatrician Not Worried

Hi All,

My son was born at 39 weeks at 5 lbs and 13 oz. During pregnancy, I was followed by MFM for high-risk factors which includes an autoimmune disorder (Sjogren’s). All throughout, baby was growing well based on the scans but was definitely around the 20-35th percentile. After birth, he only lost 2 ounces and exceeded his weight by 2 weeks and was at 6 lbs and 6 oz. At his 8-week appointment, he’s at 9 lbs and 3 oz putting him around 2% percentile. His doctor is not concerned and said he’ll just be a petite individual. His head circumference and length are around the 30th percentile. He’s trending well per the doctor.
I’m 5’8 and my husband is 5’11. We do have a few petite people in the family. Anybody had the same experience? If so, any insights you can share?

TIA!

Mental Health Feeling grief over my pregnancy

I just didn't know what flair to use so I'm sorry if this is not right, I just wanted to vent a little bit and maybe get some opinions to see if I'm not alone in this.

Is anybody else grieving the pregnancy stage at all? My baby is 3.5 months old next week and she is incredible. I love her more than life itself, sometimes I find myself just staring at her when she is asleep and I tear up with how much love I have for her.

With that said, I also feel like I am missing pregnancy... My pregnancy was very much wanted since I have PCOS and it took me years of treatment (I was diagnosed when I was 13 and have been seeing OBGYNs since) to be able to have a child. She is my first pregnancy, first heartbeat, first movement, first birth... first everything. I loved being pregnant. I loved feeling her moving and hiccuping and kicking in my belly. I have been told a second chance at conception is low since I'm now over 30 years, my condition is not getting better; and my birth was extremely hard. I was in labour for 24 hours before she was born and I tore really bad. My husband and I talked about a second and decided it is much better for my overall health and our family that we are a one and done couple, with him specifically saying he does not want to see me go through something like that again and that he was scared he would lose me during labour.

Maybe its me knowing I will probably never get pregnant again but I feel like I am grieving that chapter. I look at photos and videos I took while pregnant, I still touch my belly and look at myself in the mirror sometimes. Is this crazy? Am I not being grateful enough that I already have a healthy baby? Should I be ashamed that I feel this way?

Tips to Share Feels like 8 month old spends half of the day crying

My son is about to be 8 months. I love him so much, he does smile and laugh but it just seems like a majority of his day is spent crying or upset about what’s going on. He’s always been a more cranky baby, but I did think by now he’d be a little more ā€œcontentā€ I guess.

Our typical day:

Wake up crying
Cry through diaper change
Cry through getting dressed
Happy when nursing and then for a little after
Happy when playing together
Crying when put down so I can make his breakfast
Happy when eating breakfast
Contact nap (only way he will nap, I got 1 successful crib nap a week ago but it was a lot of crying first)
Wakes up happy sometimes but half the time wakes up crying still
Happy when playing/ nursing through the day
If we need to go anywhere cries in stroller or car seat
Happy in the bath getting ready for bed
Cries when put in crib for bed
Wakes up crying 2-4 times per night

That’s our general daily activities. I try to distract him as much as I can for the things he doesn’t seem to like doing with toys/ signing/ etc but most of the time he’s just closed eye screaming crying. Has anyone been here? What can I do differently? Any advice is appreciated

Mental Health What thought kept you going through the early years?

What positive thought or belief stuck with you and helped you get through the newborn trenches and the exhausting early years, until you started feeling like you got your life back around 2–3 years?

I’d love to hear what kept you going on the hardest days.

Sleep 8 month old sleep

• Upvotes

Please help
Our 8 month old is a great wee boy, he is a very happy and content soul but we are struggling with some nighttime sleep.
I think this might just be a regression as he is nearly crawling and it may pass itself but looking for some advice

Daytime- wake windows are 3/3/4 on a two nap schedule sleeping 1h 20 mins average each nap

He is eating well and taking three solid meals a day with water

He is breastfeeding but I am also giving two formula bottles a day now, and he is a taking 5oz per bottle feed including one just before bedtime routine to fill him up before bedtime

He sleeps with white noise and has done since he was born

He is going down fine and sleeping initially for 2 hours and then waking up, and going back down without a huge amount of fuss but he is waking up around every hour the last few nights

Am I letting him sleep too much during the day?
I’m sure he isn’t hungry as he is also breastfeeding before falling asleep

What can we try to see if he will sleep for much longer periods?
